Hi! I am Carlo (or Tagliamare if you prefer) and I am a shipmodeler. I live in Italy and I build ship models in my little workshop which is always "under construction".
The channel goal is to help beginner ship modellers getting into the world of ship modelling. In this channel I show you how I build my ship models from the keel to the sails, the tools I use the most and some tips and tricks you might need.

Not really any easier than any other kind I've seen...
Hi, Looking great so far. On the strength of your review I have just ordered this as my first wooden ship model. I used to build and fly balsa RC planes back in the 1990s so hope that experience and your videos series will help me be successful. Best wishes.
That’s great! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it :)
12:07 😅
Ahaha 😂
Complimenti bel lavoro,, bravo,,
Nice looking finish to the hull
Interesting work. I have been experimenting with Danish oil instead of shellac. The oil gives that 1960s Danish furniture finish.
oils are good, they do have drawbacks though
@@Tagliamare please what are the drawbacks?
Superbe !!! Quel superbe travail ! Superb ! Very impressive work !! Greetings from France.
Merci!!
This is a pretty nice series, it's just too bad one has to watch it muted due to ever repeating super annoying jingle so it's almost impossible to tolerate it long enough to hear if you actually say anything at any point.
I think I improved since the date of this video :)
Where do you get the frames?
Included in the kit
Friggin’ awesome! Both the model and the video.
Spettacolare veramente un lavoro da Maestro……
Grazie!!
Nice work on the Planking, nicely explained, ive not seen a model before with the thin planking as a first layer, makes life so much easier less hassle to bend. Great video
Thanks!
I love the planking stage of construction and find it very Carthaginian, no that is the wrong word. Cathartic is the correct word. I dread the rigging stage of construction as I have King Charles 111 sausage type fingers.
Ahahah

Nice work on the planking. Using the tape to get the shape on the last plank is a really good idea!
Love your videos hope to see more of your work
I just subscribed and nice work on the first layer of planks i am building the same kit also installing the last few planks on the first layer looking forward to the next video
Looks like a clove hitch to start
On the other side of the machine you don't need four hooks, one in the middle would suffice perfectly, because on that end, the three or four strands are supposed to come together anyway. Other than that, you built a very fine machine 👌
That’s wrong. You’re talking about the traditional method and in that case you need a third component
haw make dedeyes model
that would be a nice topic for a new video =)
Very interesting. Your deck looks very realistic. We visited Italy in April, but were unable to get to Florence this time. Best of luck with your beautiful models!
Good opportunity to visit Italy again 😂 Il tuo Italiano è perfetto! Grazie!
That's very cool. Well done. 👌
Great video. Lots of helpful ideas on making the skylight hatch. 👍
Impressed with your gigantic big silvery things. What are they please?
Very nice and cheap bought them from Amazon Italy amzn.to/3V7ALPd Also this ones might be very good from Amazon com amzn.to/3QPoo7C
@@Tagliamare thank you for the link. Ordered.
What glue are you using?
Is the pattex white glue
@@Tagliamare Is that a high tack glue, I see you are using push pins on the 2nd planking. Did you use any CA glue?
It’s multipurpose pva glue, nothing special tbh. I tend not to use CA glue
You videos are very educational, just bought the Essex. Question? when at the rigging stage, how do you know what length to cut the threads to start the rigging. Looking at the instructions, it shows mm but not sure if I should cut longer for tying & cutting. Any info appreciated.
Thank you, appreciate it! You can cut the ropes ones you finished it, no need to take measurements. I am sure you will find some useful information in the playlist below Basics of rigging model ships: tutorials and techniques kzread.info/head/PLjLFeG6md-d2H60iOp3HwXxUsrA0gD0wg
@@Tagliamare Not sure what you mean cut the ropes when you finished it, I want to be able to cut the length then have enough to rig it it with a little extra for tying then trimming. Thanks
I mean Why do you have to cut the length before making the rigging? You can just use the full spole
keel and bulkheads are 3mm thick. But I believe this information it is not enough to assess the structure's strenght
Consider also that the keel is going to be cover in a 1mm pear wood sheet
It is very interesting to see such a different construction technique.
👍🔥 nice video.
Thank you!
Hi, it's okay, this hull is going to be super strong with all these reinforcements.
Amazing. I know it was speeded up, but it looked like you were enjoying yourself. Did you have to finely trim the deck to fit or did you just cut it out and fitted.?❤
Cut and fitted at 99%. Just a very small adjustment on a side :) but that might have been my fault
Is this a reworking of the original Caldercraft model or totally new/different?
Totally different
Nice unboxing i have just ordered this kit couldn't resist
I got into the model ship building hobby just two years ago with the tiny 18ft cutter kit from Vanguard Models. After that, I built the Duchess of Kingston model (I can highly recommend it!) I am sure I would have given up on this hobby without the elaborate manual and plans that come with the kit. Currently I'm building the HMS Indefatigable from Vanguard Models and I'm thoroughly enjoying it, thanks to everything I've learned on these two first kits.
Respekt.Bravissimo!
ciao, Super little ship which can be a real little gem, it would tempt me, can't wait for next week for the start of the assembly, you scare me with the xsato 😮in your hand already that you have a doll on the go, thank you for this beautiful discovery.
Not ship modeling related injury 😂
okay! so you can continue you still have 9 fingers left. 🖖
Exactly ahah
Regarding the adjustable pin pusher. I bought one and it seems that it is more suitable for thicker pins. I tried it and it bent the very fine pins supplied with my previous Vanguard kit. So I tapped the pins in with a very light hammer. I must treat myself to the finer pin pusher soon.
Yes pins are super light. I prefer to use pliers in this case
I personally own the thin pin pusher that is sold by Vanguard Models, and that one worked very well for the small nails that came with the Duchess of Kingston kit from VM.
My HM cutter Sherbourne arrived yesterday. I trust your thumb is improving.
Seriously considering this model and am looking forward to following your build
You just earned a subscriber with this awesome ship.
Superb ❤models and fell in love and lust after the presentation little brass dorade clock 😮.
Yeees I loved it tooooo
@@TagliamareI noticed that the clock was made in Italia and was wondering if it was a one off or can we buy one or two? I have nautical instrument (compass or chronometer)looking wrist watch made by the Marloe watch company called a Tay which I wear almost every day.
I can ask more infos on it and let you know :)
@@Tagliamare excellent idea thank you.
@@pwsod so, i checked you can find different versione by searching for “manica a vento orologio”. The version you see in the video is a personal thing Oscar had, im not sure you ll find the same one on sale
