Métis Nation of Ontario

Métis Nation of Ontario

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is the government of Métis people and communities in Ontario. In 1993, the MNO was established through the will of Métis people and Métis communities coming together throughout Ontario to create a Métis-specific governance structure. The MNO was not created to represent all individuals and communities that claim to be Métis, but those individuals and communities that are a part of the Métis Nation.

    Here is the truth Maggie: a cut and pasted response from a true Metis leader... : Margaret Froh with a straight face insulting Nippissing Chief Scott McLeod. Labeling herself as the only one with the truth is quite a feat. I was there when Chief McLeod spoke. He did not insult children. He was upset that HE was forced to tell them the truth after MNO lied to them. Froh you need to apologize to him immediately. YOUR comments are unacceptable. What Chief McLeod said was that MNO leadership lied to these children about their identity. Froh, it was you and past MNO leaders who caused this moment in time where you are using children are becoming used as props and continuing to lie to these children. THAT is disturbing, disgraceful and disgusting.

    Now- lets stop tis movement in it’s tracks!! We have a vibrant and historic past, with ancestors that go back thousands of years. We did not just invent the ontario communities- we had to find and prove what we are saying to be the truth. We are not trying to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes! It’s the other way around, and i think there is a bigger adgenda here that the 3 chiefs of ontario have up thier sleeve. Chief Mac cloud has admitted that he wants to negate any reference to being indigenous to our school children, our grandchildren and us! What he has done is reprehensible, and he needs to apologize for perpetuating, if not initiating these lies against our people. I was in Toronto and story point when wwe had ceremony with the chiefs of ontario back in the day. We signed documents to be as one- the pipe was passed and gifts were traded. We were friends, allies, indigenous as one- but now, the c.oo’s of ontario don’t want to recognize this.. it is also perpetuated by another province of metis people and lie upon lie has been foisted upon us at a distance.. there is so much to tell and the next generation that i could write a book about what our history is.. if anyone on here wants to debate me, i am ready and able to do that! But- you had better be courteous and have an open heart and ears that listen.. we will stand tall, taller than before because our resolve just got bigger. We will never succumb to misinformation and lies that hurt us.. we have been hurt for far to long. Hope that you want to participate in a discussion about the real unmitigated stories and how we are as important as indigenous people as any other group in Canada..

  • @laurieharvey4633

    @@douglasmoran9913 That's misinformation. 5000 out of 29000 is not 70%. Also, they were not removed because they are not Métis, necessarily. They were removed because their files were not complete, meaning they were missing documentation to prove ancestral linkage to a historical family line. If any of these people are able to obtain the necessary documents then they are welcome to re-apply. Before this even took place, at plebiscite went out to all of the citizens and it was voted on by us. Millions have not been handed out. That's wildly inaccurate at best. The government doesn't need the Métis to have access to the north, it already does. If that were true then Bill-C53 would have been passed already. What this is really all about is certain groups and nations wanting all the money for themselves. The campaign of lateral violence by some is over money. It's about money and that's it. Tony Belcourt was told this is plain English, which is why he sat at the table at from Kettle and Stony Point. He said "the government isn't a loaf of bread, it's the whole bakery." It's sad to see how abusive money can cause some people to become. Even those who are in positions where integrity and honour should lead the way. Instead, this is how they decide to teach their children. By abusing the children of others and flat out lying about others to get what they want.

    I don't doubt some people in Ontario are metis but you should seek membership from the red river metis. Most do no bully people and at the recent conference they indicated when the metis of western canada take a stance on this issue we will be labeled as bullies. That is not good either. We should be able to have a rational discussion about this. Also all indigenous people are two spirited, we all have a unique portion of sun and moon. Some people have more sun, and some people have more moon, but we all have both. Please don't use our spirituality to say, "hey i know what its like to be a victim" traditionally our people never cared about who you love, man or woman makes no difference to our people. But two spirited is a form of spirituality not sexuality.

    You say that Metis people based in Ontario should "seek membership in the Red River Metis". Why, exactly? Please don't throw out some arbitrary demand about what MNO citizens "should do" in order to satisfy your fabricated requirements, then not give your reason for that opinion. I am Ontario Metis and my ancestors are Upper and Lower Canada/Ontario Metis. They include several generations of Voyageurs who transported goods throughout the Great Lakes and rivers stretching from Western Ontario to Eastern Quebec (Gaspe Peninsula). I have one ancestor who died in Saskatchewan, but all of my Metis ancestors were/are based in Ontario/Upper Canada. NOT the Red River region. I know that not all western Metis are as bigoted or uneducated and hateful against MNO, as MMF president David Chartrand and his faithful followers. But among you are some very loud, spiteful, vindictive people who would be thrilled to see the MNO disappear. But that's not going to happen anytime soon or in the future. Red River Metis who want MNO citizens to "seek membership with the Red River Metis" are apparently hallucinating, since we are, in fact, NOT RED RIVER METIS. What IS true, though, is that We Are ALL METIS.

    PS: Your opinion about what IS and what is NOT "two spirit" is just that - your personal opinion. Your tendency to present your comments as being "factual" is probably something that you should have a careful look at. Each and every individual has a right to freely identify themselves in a manner that best reflects their inner selves. To once again, arbitrarily demand that your views are "correct" lacks any evidence whatsoever to back your claims. If you have some proven "expertise" in two-spirit identification - please eshare with us your credentials and sources. Thank you.

    ps: You are obviously one of the many people who are trying their damndest to delegitimize the Metis Nation of Ontario. Well here's a little taste of your own medicine: The style of jig and fiddle music that Red River Metis claim as their very own - is actually just a slight alteration of traditional music and dancing done throughout the Maritimes, Quebec and the UK.. The Metis flag is universal - not "owned" by any particular Metis group in Canada. The "Red River Cart" is just a slight alteration of carts/wagons/buggies that were and are being built and used throughout the world. Anf oh yeah - there really are Metis people in Ontario who are NOT Red River Metis. I realize that you crave the idea of being so very special and exclusive. I apologize for being the one to tell you this - but you're not. ❤😊✌

    Creating a "history" and then using COLONIAL mechanisms to force your concocted "history" upon FNMI that do not recognize these fabrications, is fraud. Funny - authentic First Nations, Métis and Inuit do not need a white man in a Colonial Court to uphold recent and opportunistic claims to "Indigenous Identity," nor do they need genealogists, lawyers or historians to bolster these distant and frail claims. We are First Nations, Mètis and Inuit all the time, not just when it's economically beneficial to claim so. The Powley test has been used to fabricate "so called Eastern Métis" rights and is the foundation for a mass campaign of MISINFORMATION that has generated around 200 Fraudulent fake metis orgs in this country, including the MNO who then are running amok in all sectors claiming to be metis in a giant wave of fraud. This notion that "one drop of Indigenous blood" makes you Métis is false. Powley is a fabrication, and getting a white judge to agree with your lawyers ain't no flex. It's "Colonial Corruption" - plain and simple.

    Just want point out that Mr though Chartrand and Mr Goodon take exception to we Métis of the “East” using that term, neither seem to be aware that they do not have exclusive right to claim the title “Métis! I offer this question, are these two gentlemen also ranting at the Métis population of Senegal? Métis is a word derived from the French language meaning mixed. Like us, the Senegalese Métis are a proud strong people. I wouldn’t advise ranting at them the way you rant at us! To be clear, anyone with Indigenous / Settler heritage could legally call themselves Métis, especially if that heritage included the French language or any daughter languages. Sir John A McDonald said he would drown those “Red fish in a sea of white “. Congratulations gentlemen. John A is long dead and gone but you are still fulfilling his dream! I am a Métis man with roots in Red River going back to 1700. I lived in Rivers Manitoba as a child and I am a graduate of U of M. When I confirmed my Metis heritage I called the MMF registration office to confirm whether or not my children or grandchildren would be entitled to support and benefits. The answer was a succinct “NO”. Though, the lady did suggest I join the Métis Nation of Ontario. I and my adult family, because of economics, live in Ottawa. When I wear my sash and fly the infinity flag I dare you to tell me I can’t or that am I in the process of identity theft. Having a career in the military I have been numerous “mixed” communities from East to West coast and never have I been so insulted by my own people. Have you know shame? A word to my First Nations cousins: What I learned when with the North Island Nation is BC was that “If you want to fish, hunt or harvest, always seek permission of the First Nations before doing so!” Support and respect for each other. If our Métis ancestors had not behaved in a respectful manner we would not be here today. Marcii. Megawich

    The Metis Nation never, ever settled around the Great Lakes - there is literally no history "to remember". Your efforts to try to change and/or create history where there never was any is a huge joke! You can't point to a single, legitimate piece of history that supports your constant theories, created out of literal thin air. No legit Indigenous nation has to turn over every rock they're around to look for their history. It's known - to them, to their neighbors, to their own ancestral relations. You people are a giant joke. The lies you throw out today will never, ever be made real. These "facts" you rely on are and have already been proved complete bunk. You can repeat the lie all you want; this one repeated lie is never going to be accepted - not by the Metis, not by anyone not given to delusions. Froh stepped into a giant pile of pure sludge and she is sunk.

    i have only been openly identifying as metis for a year and there is so much I dont know and want to learn but I have no teacher. I have already encountered from Manitoba many who as soon as I say Metis nation of Ontario well I end up in a political debate or more like a one sided monolog, then told if I have scrip... what ever that is then im a real one. My argument is the metis did not just appear in red river they travelled there through the fur trade . The story of the metis is significant and explains how metis are spread about all of Canada but the Manitoba metis seem to think if your not from Manitoba your not metis, thats like telling a Native person that if you dont live on the reserve your not native. (yes i know the irony as the gov said that for years) I appreciate this history vid. Thanks

    I have a French ancestor that came to the red river and his children grew up and joined/created in part, the Métis nation. I believe this was the case in most cases. Our European ancestors came over and started Métis families. Our nation was created in the west. It didn’t just migrate west from the east.

  • @just-one-person101
    @just-one-person1012 ай бұрын

    @@justin4321234 The same can be said about Metis in Ontario. Many of our European ancestors in the beginning were historically documented Voyageurs who travelled (usually by waterways) throughout Upper Canada (known today as Ontario, ), the "northwest" (which at the time was frequently referring to northwestern regions of Ontario), as well as parts of southern and western Quebec. It is historically documented that they formed close symbiotic relationships snd marriages with indigenous women and their families, and became parents of the "half breeds" mentioned throughout Metis history. The "half breeds" formed communities which we all know as Metis settlements - in the upper Great Lakes region as well as western Ontario. The citizens of the Metis Nation of Ontario are descendants of those early Metis families. Other than cosmetic cultural features, there are very few if any signficant defining details that separate the reality of Red River Metis from Metis people of Ontario.
