Welcome to our One Foot off the Grid Channel. We are your average suburban family, but we have a huge love for the outdoors. 7 years ago we purchased a 5 acre piece of property in the Hood Canal (in Washington). We have slowly been developing it, but this year, things are going to get serious!!! In May 2020 (fingers crossed), our log cabin kit will be delivered to our land and we will start building.
We plan to take you along for the WHOLE ride. We'll be sharing what we've done on our property so far and projects we do before the kit arrives, and in May we will be sharing the building process. You'll get the good, the bad, the funny, the sad -- you'll get ALL of it!
Thanks for following us!
PS - For some reason you only get Ryan and the kids (Owen & Lindy) in this pic. Someday we'll have a picture of all of us up at our property.

Your eyes scare me plz squint more 😭
i love the look of the cable railing but you have to close close together if you ask me but it not my house but looks good
see i was thinking why did stop and not go around on the deck and I see why now and I am so glad you connect both decks and think it will be great and deck in front connecting the 2 main deck you dont want to cover it kinda of like sun deck
aw the deck is looking great nice job guys
see I hope you are putting glue in between the small beams you make for stairs can attched to that they are lamanated beam
I’m about a year too late, but it doesn’t look like you used insulted electrical boxes on the exterior wall which would have been good since you had to cut away all the insulation to fit the boxes. You might be able to feel cold air pouring out of your switches and outlets in the winter.
Please do not shot in the direction of another person with the constuction nailer. Realy funny videos. Greets from germany
Love the cable, looks fantastic! Have you thought about covering the mini split, from the deck. Put up wood instead of cable? Glad you’re back. 😊
Will it be difficult to put the flooring in while you're living in the house?
We are planning to get flooring installed on at least the bottom floor within the next three weeks
Looks great x
Looking good, but I would put a set of sets where your door opens up.
Why did you put cable on your stairs
What would you have put?
Best year round to withstand the desert year round long time?
The concrete slab turned out so good!
Thank you. It turned out great for my first slab pour.
Hi guys!! I hope you are all well. Like everyone else l too have missed seeing you guys! You are really making forward progress now!! May l just say a piece on the cable railings…..I have them here and within a short time of moving here one of the cables snapped and due to the tension l was whipped and cut pretty bad. Please ensure that the kids do not even touch the cables. I might sound a bit melodramatic but l can tell you it’s no fun when they snap! Oh by the way could you please send me some of your summer warmth?? It’s far too cold here at the moment. I hope the kids are well. And the dentist appointment not too bad! Take good care. Best wishes and big hugs!! Di.
Some measuring here and some measuring there and measuring again. Some sawing here and some sawing there and sawing some more. Some screws here and some screws there, and more screws. All that turned into a staircase 😊 So happy for you. Another step closer. I'm sure the want to get moved into the house is at it's highest level right now. As always wishing you the best.
Wow! The cable railing looks great! And you’re so close to that temp COA! We’ve been following in your footsteps over this past year and so many of your build choices are choices we’re also making. With the cable railing, what was the new measurement you used when drilling the posts. I know your original measurement was 3 and 3/4 inches apart, which you realized was too far apart. Love that you all are so willing to share the ups and downs! We’re certainly benefiting! 😊
We ended up going with a 3" spacing to be safe. We probably could have gone 3.25", but we were trying to use a pattern that would let us use some of the holes we previously drilled.
It does look very nice .
It's a shame you have marked yourself with tattoos 😢
I saw that you have all your Ducks (both of them) in a row, must be something really good, Thank you both.
Looking good folks!! 🫂🫂🫂🫂
We are making progress! Thanks for following along and cheering us on.
Your Both Absolutely Amazing...look what you have done, you should Be Very Proud of yourselves! Building a house is No Small Feat and it's So So Beautiful!!!
It is way harder than we anticipated, but the sense of accomplishment should be amazing once we are done and get to enjoy this house WE built.
Tolles Video tolle Arbeit 👏🏻👋🙂🙋♂️🇩🇪😊
Looks really good
Thank you! We are loving how it is coming together.
Getting so close to moving in. Thanks for sharing
Yes. We can finally see it now.
Love watching your build. Been looking for land in Kitsap for a while now. Might have to expand my search area. Just a small suggestion. Maybe use a coin between each tread board to create a gap that allows expansion, drainage and air to flow through since these are outside.
Thanks for the tip. Those boards were pretty wet so my thought was that the gap would shrink down once they dried, but I do like the idea of using a coin. If you want to explore area in Mason County, I'm a Realtor and would be happy to help you along with your search.
I've got to be within 20-25 minutes of a hospital. :/
The cables would look really good in the house stairs May have been a good idea to box in the stairs, just about up to first cable, just so a foot can’t go off the side
I miss the shiplap days! Said no one! 🤣😂🤣 Loving the little duckies ♥️ Looking good 👍👍🍻
No truer words were said. LOL. Thanks for sticking around.
Beautiful JOB you two and wow what a learning curve for sure. I have never seen this done before and it was totally awesome!!! Proud of you both for trying new applications for your railing system. God IS Blessing you all.

Hello guys 👍
Greetings One Foot off Grid and family. Jamaica 🇯🇲 in the house. Wow so great to have another video after a break
Thank goodness..We missed you so much
Visually everything is beautiful, but on the technical side the question is: where is the waterproofing of the foundation of the house? Is this the right way to build?
We hope it's the right way to build. Lol!. We've done everything as specified by our engineer and county.
@@OneFootOfftheGrid I have no doubt that you have done everything according to the project. And yet, the one who created the project should have understood about the penetration of moisture into the basement and the subsequent destruction of the foundation of the building.. In Russia we always do waterproofing. You probably have different laws of nature. Lol!
Beautiful country, and what a wonderful piece of property you have there! Thanks for sharing your journey. I see I have allot of videos to watch yo catch up
