Iako Bei

Iako Bei

IAKO BEI is a project of a singer, bassplayer, song-writer and lyricist Roman Jakobej. What makes the music unique is its innovative and original interpretation of rock music where the rock's main instrument - a guitar - is absent. Instrumentally relying on drums, keyboards, bass with many pedal effects and saxophone, the songs take a wide range of inspiration from the 70‘s space prog, the 80‘s pop/art rock, the 90‘s alternative rock to the 2010‘s prog metal. This creates a challenging but enjoyable sonic cocktail for either open-minded people tired of gazillion copy and paste artists or simply those who have heard way too much music in their lives and are looking for something fresh and exciting.

You can find here lots of additional content such as studio documentary, track-by-track, music videos, the making of + bloopers, sounds behind the record and live videos. Other videos include mostly music reviews and reactions focusing on promoting Roman's favorite music.

    I dunno why people claim Chris Degarmo wrote "85 to 90 percent of their music". Look at the songwriting credits on The Warning, Rage and Mindcrime. Michael Wilton co-wrote nearly half those songs

    I have very mixed feelings towards Chameleon. On the one hand, this album nearly killed the band as Kiske was single-handedly trying to steer them towards a softer and more radio-friendly sound. On the other hand, it's not really _bad_ - the songs are really solid with excellent production quality, it's just not the kind of music you'd expect from a band that pretty much pioneered a completely new metal subgenre just a few years prior. My top 5: 5. Gambling with the Devil 4. The Dark Ride 3. Keepers I 2. Master of the Rings 1. Keepers II

  • @rjakobej
    @rjakobejАй бұрын

    It's actually not true. Sure, Kiske wanted to do that type of music but that direction of music was given by Weikath and Grosskopf more so than Kiske. After Kiske was fired from the band and considering the general opinion of stupid public, they blamed him and he never defended himself because he kept away from the metal community (which worked for their cover-up story). There have been recent interviews where they touched upon this.

    Lenny Wolf still has lots of his own personality. Funny how criticized and hated their debut album was for "copying" Led Zeppelin and now Greta Van Fleet is so popular. On their first EP the singer not only sounds exactly like Robert Plant, they even stole one riff from LZ. And it's ok for people. Strange.

Also tears on tape is underrated af some of Lindes best riffs and Burtons best atmospheric keyboards. Scream works also is very different from old HIM but also the natural progression of the band. He describes it as the Cult meets Depeche Mode which I love. Maybe early him was more Sabbath meets the Cure hehe;)

    Right? I think it’s natural for metal to be gothic given Sabbath being a proto metal, glam, punk, and goth band like the stooges. HIM were just returning metal to its roots while also mixing in newer elements of goth we got from the 80s like synths…..

    Hellfire Club is a bit complicated for me. Was heavily disapointed when I gave it the first few listens in 2004. After Mandrake, which was the first Edguy album I've ever listened to, I was expecting HC to sound similar. Somehow this album screamed "sellout" to me. Nowadays my opinion hasn't changed that much, since I didn't have this album anymore because I gave up on it after a few months. However Mysteria and Piper were the two songs I really liked from the beginning and are still two of their greatest songs. Fools, Lavatory and Moon are solid songs as well, while the rest just didn't do it for me. I guess Mandrake was just that good, everything after it would disapoint.

  • @rjakobej
    @rjakobej4 ай бұрын

    Many people felt that way (that they "sold out"). Even as an artist I know - it's extremely important for bands to evolve and move on. You lose some fans in the process but you remain true to your own creativity. Tobi himself said that power metal is an extremely narrow genre to be creative in.

    It's not necessatly a couple relationship and a breakup it could be a friend or a relative anyone very dear and for some reason lost forever...IMO the song is more about regret for a chance lost forever of telling to someone very dear what we didn"t tell when we could have but didn't.... we live our lives taking most people for granted never telling them or not telling enough how important and dear they are to us... not thinking that life or death might take away the opportunity to do so...when he sings "you'll be the saddest part of me" IMO it means his memory of that person will always be tainted with regret of not showing his love when he could have but didn't...
