FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT, gave us his best of him at that time, comfort, warmth, family and function. to live on indefinitely for at least 1000 plus years...i have a complete video of the interior and exterior of this magnificent creation. been even up in the crows nest, but while filming, i forgot about the low ceiling and it's all recorded on tape. you even hear me laughing a bit, because what took place.. i had my 2 friends there, 1 being a love for architecture, while the other was just talking to the receptionist. i just wish they didn't alter it into a Conference Center..they removed many beautiful things created by the famous FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT, which I'm sure has been heart broken..

@@fzarchitecture looking forward for another WRIGHT experience...it's to bad so many of his buildings got destroyed, weather by fire, water, hurricane, greed, and the Wrecking Ball.. I just wish my parents would approached him at the time when they were wanted to build a cottage up in Michigan it would have been awesome I'm sure but oh well that's the way things go. at least i was one year old when MR. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT passed away... I have done so many wonderful creations and fruits and vegetables I even recreated falling water using only the four materials like of the house. Taking two watermelons as the base of the house covering it with pineapple rind to give it the stone effect, cinnamon sticks were Steel, like in the window frames. Glass was just plastic, and cement was jicama... and had my brother created a real working waterfall under my direction exactly how it was supposed to be it was her Mother's Day a Butterfield Country Club which was made for and it was a hit.. especially when one of the members said she used to work with Frank Lloyd Wright my body became Frozen in time and Goose pimples run down my spine to know that somebody was there that worked with him and told me that Mr Frank Lloyd Wright would really appreciate what I did

That's true, that system creates so much issues for the owners. We have to consider that Wright invented the system and the people working at that time was all experimental. I worked on the restoration of Jacobs I in 1982. It was fascinating to see how it was put together up close. It occurs to me know, after all these years, that the inherent issues cited by people re the Usonian designs could be taken care of with a caulking gun.

@@fzarchitecture I can't agree more because of pervasive & persuasive prevalent influence of mass & social media that promote starchitects in the professional circles as well as institutional courses/curriculum of architecture that's why as a current faculty, I always emphasize in class instructions that students should be always aware of context & contents of site, spaces, surfaces, structures & services as basic requirements of architectural planning before they'll arrive/derive the building program design concept/s. Another excellent video. You might have mentioned that Mr. Wright designed the house to be easily changed once all the Hanna children grew up. The original 3 tiny children's bedrooms grew into a large parent's bedroom suite. The original sanctum grew into a large library. The children's playroom changed into a large formal dining room for entertaining guests. The changes were done in the mid to late 1950s. My favorite detail is the light-well at the south end of the kitchen tower which illuminates the bedroom hallway below.

the exposed simple 120 degree brick corner detail is brilliant. the overhangs a redwood work of art. imo the concrete should just have been stained, not painted.

i went through it in the early 90's when it was ironically condemned (as Wright assured his clients he designed the Imperial Hotel) and empty from earth quake damage. grounds keeper let me go through it. it fit so wonderfully within it's site.

Hi, in Wright when we talk about organic, is not as current architecture that it is more as organic shapes. In that time, organic architecture was to bring the nature, contact with the exterior and be more transparent in the time when the architecture couldn't offer that sense of living. For that reason Wright is called organic because he broke the box where all were living. the narrator really emphasize on the amazing "FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT" name...throughout the video...about 80 percent of the stuff showed, i knew threw my 135 books on FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT...at the time when my parents were going to build a summer cabin in republic Michigan, I wish they woulda contacted FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT...it would have been amazing and spectacular..and of course worth a lot of money ...oh well...

In the Darwin Martin House, of Buffalo New York, in 1902-1905 Frank Lloyd Wright used what he called Lay lights. Which were stained glass fixtures installed on the horizontal planes, that were back lit with Light bulbs, so you cannot claim that algae invented these in 1940….

Wright did many other great elements, but in this specific item the compliments should goes to Aalto, in this case. Architecturally talking. But this is my personal and professional opinion. I've been trying to find photos of the interior of the house, but none are available online except for the one with the glass panes along a hallway with a rug on the floor. The house is privately owned but I am surprised there's nothing else online about it, or at least not easy to find.

The skylight is great. Most of Wright’s homes are dark inside. Especially in the Winter. I visit the Darwin Martin house when I visit relatives in Buffalo. I love to see it, but it would not be a great place to live.

His timeline is way off. William Martin had his house built in Oak Park a year before (1902) the Darwin Martin House was done. The JJ Walser House was built before the Barton House as DD Martin used the Walser House as the basic design model for the Barton House. Heath House was built after the D Martin House. The Martin Gardner’s cottage was designed in 1905 but never built until 1909.

New homes need to adjust to the times. Home solar energy and battery storage are now more common. Electric vehicles are becoming more popular every year. Every garage should include a 220 volt outlet and electric vehicle charger. Every new home and business should install a rain water collection and storage system along with solar panels. Even in areas where rain is infrequent it is crazy to waste the little rain that does fall and waste it. We need to stop planting green lawns and switch to local native plantings around homes. It is crazy to plant lawns and build golf courses in dry desert areas. We waste too much water and electricity. the future is electric. Wind and solar energy along with electric vehicles are the future. Stop using fossil fuels. There is a climate crisis.

I use this generic picture as introduction for the unbuilt projects that has his style. It is a rendering but really looks a Wright house. I am a FLW addict. So much so I purchased a primitive knock off on the shore of the Rock River built in 1948. Been there 19 years. Will die there. But it “ain’t” no true FLW by any means. Low horizontal roof line and all glass in the rear and 60% on the side built at a 35 degree to the river with maybe 20% glass in the other side since neighbor house is 12 ft away on that side. But the elevation makes it as such wherever you are in our one story home you do not see the backyard lawn but visual begins at seawall. All you see is the water. 33 ft from the seawall is the rear of our home. For living in a modest, mostly blue collar area, we have the Gem. Thanks for your videos. We tour FLW properties whenever we can. The Laurent house, Rockford IL is less than 10 min drive away. (Rockford IL)
