  My girlfriend is from Jersey and I'm from Cornwall and we were talking about kids programs that we remember and she mentioned Oscar and I was talking about Gus and then to find this is madness.

  Even though i'm glad that Oscar Puffin has met another regional star Gus Honeybun of Westward/TSW, but it's quite unfortunate that he never met Anglia's TV BC in the East of ''Birthday Club.'' That would've been an wild party when that leopard/bear-like creature showed up.

  Terrible idea to get rid of the regional branding. Its like local identity being stripped. TVS losing its franchise was the beginning of the end as well as the rest of them. Meridian was and still is crap. TV Weekly, still remember that like it was yesterday. I see a clip from RTL there with the indent still on show, that was one of the Astra analogue German channels. Nice to see Hugo the Troll for a bit there, was played on Motormouth by viewers.

  In keeping with their desire to trash everything that the TSW audience enjoyed, Westcountry replaced Gus with the absolutely dire Birthday People! Sally Meen went on to be a weather presenter for GMTV whilst the handsome Tris Payne went on to appear on the networked Wish You Were Here programme after his brief stint of IVC duties with TSW.

  The bidding system along with quality thresholds was a lousy process, if it was deemed that you bid too much you lost, and if it was deemed that you bid too little, you also lost.

  It is, and he had that name long before a certain animated character existed. He used to be one of the main continuity announcers until 2002 when continuity went to London. He stayed at Westcountry (I think the only ex-CA who did) and transitioned to being a news reader and then to weather (although he never anchored either and was generally only seen on short bulletins during the day). He still presented local weather in the Westcountry region for years afterwards.

  I actually didn't think there was a mistake - but after replaying it, I realise lol. As others have pointed out, the namecheck and on screen use of Carlton's brand once the ITV1 unification came in in October 2002 was not used in the West of England. Instead, as seen here, it was ITV1 West Of England.

  How well rewarded the execs at LWT paid themselves. Millions of pounds of shares for winning a franchise for competition that wouldn't win, and then earned millions more when Granada bought them out and they then legged it. Some loyalty to LWT!

  That system was so stupid that large companies like Central and Scottish could bid £2,000. They should never have been set so low for regions of that size

  There's also a mistake with the ident itself - at 0:41, you can see how someone was cut off due to not being within the 4:3 (or in this case 14:9) safe area.

  Granada and Border were the joint second region to finish Prisoner in February 1995. Grampian were next in March 1996, then HTV.

  @Richard Doran Westcountry were actually the last to finish. Carlton, Ulster and Meridian never completed the series.

  ​​@@jackmeadows7777They did. Maybe it's a coincidence but they possibly waited until September 1988 when they were part of Granada's night time service. HTV started the previous month, the first episode of Prisoner was the first programme of their "Night Club" service. HTV and Grampian were fairly close to each other throughout.

  Yes I think several regions started it on their first week of starting 24 hour TV. Certainly Granada, HTV abs Grampian did this.
