Looking (and laughing) at Physical Gaming Media since June 2023
Hi everybody, my name is Sparkideo (pronounced Spar-kid-e-o) and I do content on video games, specifically Nintendo stuff. My main focus is on the physical media that usually gets overlooked, like boxes and manuals. That isn't to say that I might not upload something else every now and then though. Maybe a gameplay video or a reaction video? Only time will tell if I do or not, lol.

Thanks for this video, I just discovered this series and, as someone who liked the Mighty series of games (Mighty Flip Champs, Mighty Switch Force, etc), it kinda has a very similar vibe of being an incredible puzzle/platform game that literally no one knows. I can't wait to play Toki Tori 🙏

2:24 Japan also has similar (if not exact) power outlets. The fact this game is likely being made in Japan, its likely they resemble the Japanese ones in particular.

I got into Toki Tori because of the sale on Wii U shortly before the eshop closed down. I'd looked into the original (and also tried Eggbert), and indeed found it quite expensive. I also find the Wii U game very challenging, and I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy playing the same levels but with a time limit and no rewind feature. :')
Did you know you can play the GBC version of Toki Tori on the Nintendo Switch already? If you buy Toki Tori 2+ (which is a different kind of puzzle game but still great), there is an Easter Egg secret tune Toki can whistle (long-short-short-short-long-short-short-long) (you'll understand if you have played the game), it will bring up a small handheld game console that plays Toki Tori GBC! (Coincidentally, the game is on sale on the US eShop for $2 right now) Also, this secret whistle is exclusive to the Switch version.
Def recommend Toki Tori 2+, it's basically a complete evolution of the concept. Instead of using items, you have two actions - chirping and stomping - but the thing is, you learn to use these abilities in new ways to interact with objects and critters, and you even revisit old levels with the new knowledge - like a learning-based puzzle metroidvania.
I remember having this game on Symbian s40 (Nokia phone operating system that supported jar file format apps that ran even on feature phones) in 2009. So it was even able to run on simple feature phones and had a version for that. think it was the Nokia 6301 that I had.

Had this game and I prefer the GBC version. Very challenging and I just love the retro OST. Cute and yes very rare of a game, super expensive when you see one sold, even if used already. I don’t blame anyone for not knowing it much.

We don’t talk about that one here. In all seriousness though, I also forgot Pikmin 1 on Wii and I’m sure there’s a digital manual for 3 DX and 4, so at some point there might be a part 2. No promises though.
My thirst has been quenched for now. I will return for more Pikmin at an unspecified date.

The Wii U was super underrated, kinda sad it’s so expensive now because of the bad sale numbers and the eShop’s closure. Though, it’s a Nintendo console and it’s gonna get collectible.

The notes section of the manual was one of the absolute best things about renting old physical copies of games in the past. Never knew what silly nonsense you'd discover. ( or leave behind yourself... ) AND Pikmin 3's manual being minimal just shows the digitization of games. Less physical.
