    If you have small hands and it is easy to pull off, it might be possible. It would be pretty awkward though.

    Great video! I needed to know the lift and jack stand points for an oil change I'm about to do. Another tip: always use some type of wheel chocks in front and back of the tires when using a floor jack. Sometimes the E-brake can not hold properly.

    As mentioned, it is a real "expletive deleted" to get the ball joint back into the knuckle. I don't have a solution but was under the mistaken impression that the male/female would be tapered. It is not, and that is where the difficulty arises. It the pin is at the slightest incorrect angle, it just gets jammed in the socket and will not move. I ended up inserting the ball joint before the hydro bush bolt, then levering to insert the front hinge bolt.

    Thank you Craig! I’ve been following a lot of your DIY’s & nine times out of ten you are spot on! With the resistor you experienced the exact same as I have! Originally I suspected the fan motor but that wasn’t the problem! I just purchased a brand new resistor from Amazon that works out at $23.54 NZD Unfortunately the fan that both our vehicles have are unavailable from most wrecking yards in our country! Everything but that won’t fit! Cheers & thank you ! Dave

    I have Ford Focus 2007 model running on petrol and check engine lights have been a problem for a while now and it says EGR system flow fault, it might take more time and cost to order a new EGR and replace so I am planning on deleting or blocking the EGR but still unsure about it. do you recommend of using blocker plate for the solution?

  • @CraigsDIY
    @CraigsDIY17 күн бұрын

    I don't have experience. It might cause inspection failure depending on where you are, also I understand might require ECU re-map to get the codes & lights off.

    You only have to seal up one end of the rod hole when deleting? What is recommended for hole plugging?

  • @CraigsDIY
    @CraigsDIY18 күн бұрын

    There is only one end. You could also plug the internal holes and try to make the sidewalls flat for the sake of airflow, but really best to replace the flaps if you care that much. Use an epoxy or something like JB Weld.

    the trick to getting the balljoint pins in (and out0 of the knuckle is to remember they have to be vertical. If they are tipped over at any angle they will not come out no matter how hard you bang or lever them. When the pin is going in the leg will try to move outwards thereby tipping the pin over. Try to push the leg in as the balljoint pin goes up into it

    You are meant to take all the weight off the rear subframe bolts with a jack before undoing them, failing to do that is what causes the vast amount of people to spin the captive nut inside the body.

  • @CraigsDIY
    @CraigsDIY18 күн бұрын

    Yes definitely don't lower it by undoing the bolts.

  • @stevefox3763
    @stevefox376318 күн бұрын

    @@CraigsDIY Not sure you understand what I mean, in this video you cracked the rear subframe bolts with no support before you put a jack under the subframe, you should never do this and a jack should be placed under them and raised to the point where its taking all the weight before cracking the bolts, failure to do this risks tearing the captive nut from its mounting.

  • @therealdojj
    @therealdojj20 күн бұрын

    For everyone I know who's changed these they've always put that rear bolt back in upsidedown I've got poly adjustable bushes in mine which gives the steering just a tiny bit sharper Also, the front subframe bolt captive nuts in the chassis have a habit of snapping the welds and then you really are in a world of hurt 🤦

  • @CraigsDIY
    @CraigsDIY19 күн бұрын

    I think there are reasons Ford don't put the bolt upside-down. But it will certainly fit that way.

  • @therealdojj
    @therealdojj19 күн бұрын

    @@CraigsDIY it's more to do with the assembly process where everything is built into the subframe in its entirety and then bolted to the car then anything else You can drop the bolt in from the top to hold everything together and then, when it's in the vehicle, torque the nut with the suspension loaded 👍

  • @CraigsDIY
    @CraigsDIY18 күн бұрын

    dojj is probably right about factory assembly, but there might also be issues with getting the correct torque when measuring from the bolt head, because the bolt is so long, difficult to get a torque wrench on the top.

    So glad I'm not the only one who thought that replacing that control arm was an utter nightmare because of that awkwardly placed bolt. What were they thinking when they made that. The MK3 is good but the biggest problem in working with that car is that some really basic parts are placed in very awkward places, like the thermostat and the power steering pump. Cheers for uploading Craig. I will try your tips next time I replace the control arm 😅

    Did mine few days ago. Could not use a torque wrench, bar etc for tensioner due to brake line in the way. I used a 15mm spanner to take off tension whilst removed belt. My advice, leave the water pump pully to last as damn much easier to get too with belt. Use a 10mm Swan neck spanner to undo idler pulley from above, again easier access. Last part, whilst you hold down tensioner to get belt on, have someone from above slide the belt over water pump pulley and done. No more rattles and clunk's. Simple job, 45 mins

    If you measured to the tie rod end stud center. You should've just put it back on to that distance and not worry about number of turns it made!! Or really anything pertaining to the threads. You could've saved yourself that whole issue and expense.
