For me im getting to the test and it works etc but as soon as i start time crisis on ps1 i get the gun as recoil working but there is no white border comes up, do games have to go in a certain folder
You need to configure retroarch to apply an overlay image of a border over the top of the game. Information on how to do this is available in the RetroArch documentation at docs.libretro.com/guides/libretro-overlays/ The basic sinden border overlays are installed with this utility, so you have something to start with, but later on you might want to use bezel artwork with borders baked in as your overlays. Which is what has been done in Barebones, the Pi4 Lightgun image made by the Sinden Discord community.
@@widge cheers will check it out tomorrow when off work, currently converting a old arcade 1up cabinet with a pi4 got it working with all my arcade etc roms just wanted to see what it would be like with sinden, tried the barebones 9.1 on a seperate sd card and this work but it shrinking the ps1 image horizontally to put bezzels either side of image, will have to read up and have a mess about tomorrow
@nbkicker7665 barebones was made with 16:9 screens in mind. I have a conversion tool to make it compatible with a1up 5:4 screens and 4:3 screens. Check kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIRouqdwg6Xch6Q.html

So á Raspberry pi 5 can do N64 without issue?
I made a child cry in 2011 because I wouldn't die after I told him 'you can play when I lose'.
How do you get to where you type in the installation script in the beginning 0:23
From EmulationStation, press F4 on your keyboard to get to the command line. When you've finished type either "exit" or "emulationstation" to go back to ES.
@widge thank you soo much! Travel Rn here wanting some nostalgia
Thanks for your hard work!
I had this! With the glasses and gun! It was the only game I had on the system, came bundled with it in the box. I was maybe 9 years old, lent it to a friend of mine to play it at his house, who later lent it to someone else. When my friend returned it to me he told me the other person "lost" the glasses and gun :-( .. wasn't mad at my friend, we were little kids. Can't say I liked that game much.
I don't know what the fascination with Hypseus is. Why not just use Singe? Or at least test your game on official Singe. It doesn't work.
Scott, no disrespect, but it's fairly common knowledge that you have no real love for the laserdisc game genre, meanwhile hypseus seems to have passion for them, introduces new features and is hugely portable. I can customize the control code and compile hypseus on my Anbernic RG351P in no time. I can run it on my PC and on my Playstation Classic. It's not a popularity contest, it's a usability contest. If that ties games to the engine, no issues from me.
@NoWayBackToOz except you fixed my issue with laserdisc games! You have an actual game, not just a movie you press buttons while watching! And I can't run it. 😢 BTW, I totally reworked the janky/horrible Singe build system. You should be able to compile it wherever you need now.
no smash brothers :(
How's this coming along ????
It's still in progres and is coming along, but slowly. Making a shooting game is a lot more work than usual hypseus/singe standard interactive film that usually gets churned out. There's no framework, but I'm making a tool to make the job a bit easier and more accessible for others while I'm at it. The most time-consuming part of it all though, is the mapping of hitboxes for all the targets. Soooo time consuming. I have to fit in the time around the rest of my life and also find time for sanity breaks. My youtube output has dropped dramatically too unfortunately. Thanks for your interest, the project is very much still alive, but will take some time. :)
@@widgetake your time my friend, I'll look forward to it in the future.

It's ok sorted it.
Nicely done bud, I like the ending scene addition too! Keep ‘em coming. I
Do you have an issue with spikers that kicks you back to the pi menu when starting the 2nd match? so weird I cant figure it out, Im running batocera but I dont think the os would matter, i am running on all the same settings you mention here
Still having issues with trying to get N64 roms to run. kernel=kernel8.img doesn't quite work for me.
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm afraid that I don't know what else to try at this moment. It's been a while since I tried N64 and there has probably been a lot of change to retropie since I made this video. I recommend checking the retropie forums to see if there are answers there, I'm sure there will be as N64 is a popular system.
Love it!
Thank you Scott. I'm glad you like it, I took your desire for variety to heart. When I wrote it I tried to avoid anything Hypseus specific in the hope that it could be played in regular Singe as well. But I'm afraid I haven't been able to get it to run in Singe so far. So I've probably done something wrong!
I had to really type in specific keywords in the YT searchbar to find this video that is very informative with a cheeky tone. Its the ultimate kusoge and its a work of art. Great review my man and you got yourself a new subscriber!
Thank you so much. In really glad you enjoyed it. 😄
For your example with the game Gangster Town, I noticed you removed the bezels. But if I remove them, my lightgun can not detect the screen properly. Will this be fixed when I follow your conversion to 4:3 aspect ratio?
It should be. The bezel isn't the important part, it's the border. In barebones the border is incorporated into the bezel overlay image. One of the things the conversion does here is replace the config references to the overlay images with reference to a bezel-less border image. Notice the end result still has a border.
@@widge That did the trick! Thank you very much! You are the master!
Wtf is that
Erm, I'm gonna have a stab, but I think it's Minesweeper ?

How do I set up the boarders?
You need to configure retroarch to apply an overlay image of a border over the top of the game. Information on how to do this is available in the RetroArch documentation at docs.libretro.com/guides/libretro-overlays/ The basic sinden border overlays are installed with this utility, so you have something to start with, but later on you might want to use bezel artwork with borders baked in as your overlays. Which is what has been done in Barebones, the Pi4 Lightgun image made by the Sinden Discord community.
I am new to all of this retro-pie . What is a good controller I can get for my Pi 5 to play these games?
For most systems, you can't go wrong with an 8BitDo SN30 Pro. However, as you're commenting on an N64 video I assume you're looking to play N64 games. in which case, Nintendo's oddball controller design just doesn't conform well to now standard controller layouts. 8BitDo doesn't produce a N64-style controller, but they do make a mod-kit to convert a real N64 controller to bluetooth for use with RetroPie. Failing that, there are many USB N64-style controllers available from Amazon, but I have no personal experience of them to offer my own opinion. Check reviews and make sure the one you get has the analog stick actually set up for analog control and not just wired as a secondary d-pad.
I got through everything including calibration, so I know the guns and the software are working, but for some reason it just won't actually work in a game. Whether I pick my actual lightgun collection folder, pick no folder (autostart indiscriminately), or manually start and then go to play a game. It seems to flash the white border for a moment while loading the ROM, but then it goes away and the gun seems to be disabled. If I had to guess, maybe Retroarch is applying some configuration that is overriding the settings the game starts up with, but I don't recall ever setting anything like that or know where to find it. Any idea what could be going wrong?
Interesting. the Border overlay flashes up then disappears. I've never seen that happen myself, but it does sound like a config file declaring the overlay is being loaded in and then overridden by another. 1. There is a hierarchy to configuration files. The global config is at `/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg` - In here is every setting that Retroarch uses. Any settings you want to be default across the board for the whole device is set in this file. 2. Each system has a config file where individual settings can be set to override the global settings. They are found at `/opt/retropie/configs/[systemname]/retroarch.cfg`. Any settings above the `#include...` line at the end will override. I'd keep this file mostly empty and only put in things that will apply to that system alone and for (almost) all games in that system. 3. Each game can have its own config file that overrides all others. This is located at `/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/config/[emulatorname]/[game].cfg` where `[game]` is the exact name of the rom file (minus the extension). In here you can apply individual settings for that game only, so for a lightgun game on a mostly non-lightgun system I would apply certain settings in this file. You don't need to have the `#include...` line in this file, the other two configs will be used, but individual settings in this file will override those in the other two. However, this config will only be applied if the game is running in the emulator identified in the path. 4. You can also have a config file for a folder. That appears in the hierarchy above "system" configs and below "game" configs. They would be located at `/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/config/[emulatorname]/[folder].cfg` where `[folder]` is the name of the folder containing the games you want to be covered by this config. RetroPie Docs is an invaluable source of information on how RetroPie works, and you can find out more here: docs.libretro.com/guides/overrides/#configuration-files-location
I don’t think the lost world arcade is a direct prequel to the lost world cause that means Ian and Sarah have been to Isla Sorna once and the baby Rex has already got injured before. Not to mention Sega may have been referring to the third act when they said conclusion
mine doesn't show the White Border.
Your pedal doesn't show a white border? Should I assume you're asking about the Sinden Lightgun. the Lightgun requires a border to know where it's being pointed, (the pedal doesn't). The gun itself doesn't produce the border, that's something you have to apply yourself in software.
@@widge That's the problem, when i start a lightgun game, on my Raspberry Pi4 it doesn't show the White Border on screen. I don't know how to put inside, i'm not into Linux.
@masterb87itzback57 In that case, I would recommend using Batocera which is as close to a plug-and-play as you're going to get, and a great option for someone with little knowledge of Linux. Most of the setup has been done for you and there's good support form the Bato devs if you need it. Or, if you want to stick with RetroPie, and are using a Pi4, there's Barebones 9, which is available from the Sinden Discord community, which has been preconfigured for almost all lightgun games that will run on a Pi4. in both cases, you just need to add the games and bios files.
Everything works great bravo man, something wrong though for whatever reason I cannot get the two player mouse cursor to show up in any game no matter what, one player works like a champ though, I'm on an old supreme ultra build which is not that great
It's most likely down to the way the games/systems in your image have been configured, which was probably not with multiplayer shooting games in mind. I have to say, I don't care much for those premade builds, preferring to set up my system myself so I know exactly how it works. i can't help you with someone else's build as I don't know what they did to it, but I doubt they went through each and every game they shovelled into it to ensure they each worked perfectly and as intended. You should ask Supreme for support, though its unlikely they'll provide it.
@@widge I actually figured it out I just had to move the light gun to a different port they say to put them in zero and one , but that doesn't really work, I actually have a player of two running through a USB hub and it works fine
Hey Widge, just wanted to give you a shoutout because i've recently made a TAS of Bubble Trouble: Golly! Ghost! 2 using the artwork you made for it. I gave you credits for it in the description.
Thanks. I'm so glad you found it useful. i can't take all the credit as @LutherGond was the one who activated support for the artwork in the game's mame driver.
What's funny about Killer Instinct Arcade Version and the difficulty of emulating it is, ppl think the faster the cpu/GPU the more likely you can play it. When actually it's cuz the processors are too fast. I used to run KI flawlessy on Mame back in like 2001 on a P2 with 4 gigs of some sort of slow ass ram. Then tried to emulate it later in life with a pc 1000x faster and it was impossible. I do know the Pi5 can emulate it but don't spend the money on a pi5 if your just trying to build a KI machine. You can get a cpu for like 9$ that can run it
i just asked chatGPT to list all psx light-gun games and saw the name, it jumped back into my mind immediately. The appeal is just nostalgia really, the game was simply available and we only had like 3 LG games. Fond memories of playing it at my "arcade" AKA video game rental store as a kid.
Very cool that the practice round was added, i actually enjoy that “lil break” from the gameplay, it’s kinda challenging too. Nice vid bud!
My god I had no idea this existed lol

It's cool and all but just to play the time crisis games I can't get behind the price point I have found other cheaper pedals that do work with the sinden so I went that route cuz 250 for a pedal ehhhh not worth it to me
Hey, that's perfectly valid. i totally agree the price of the Sinden pedal is high for what amounts to just a single button. I've made my own pedals at a small fraction of the cost of the Sinden pedal, but the price of the SInden is reflected in it's build quality. It's made to take a lot of punishment. Just what you want for something that's going to be stamped on. The price is definitely the sticking point, it's not going to be for everyone.
Is it just your screen capture then as you said you experienced no drops and i can see it stuttering all the time
I'd pay you if you would just put carnevil only the pie so I can build a cab.
Great review thanks. And another + vote for a Goldeneye test!

I'm looking to do this setup in the near future. Below is what I believe I need but please let me know if I am missing anything. Two CRT TVs Two Guncon 2s Two Fat PS2s Two copies of Time Crisis 2/3 ilink cable. Anything I'm missing? Thanks
You'll also need 2x av adapters that allow the guncon's composite cable to connect in with the display (you might not need the adapter, depends on how you're hooking up to your tv) Also note that not all fat ps2s have the ilink port as the feature was abandoned quite early in the ps2's life. So make sure you check that the ilink port is there near the usb ports.
@@widge Thanks. Do you have a link to where I could buy the av adapters? Maybe Amazon? Just want to make sure I get the right ones. Are they only needed if I'm trying to capture the gameplay? Cause I won't be doing that.
The GCon45 and GunCon2 are the most accurate traditional lightguns because they took timing information directly from the composite video signal. So the guns have two connectors, the controller connector and a composite video connector. A Namco adapter goes between the PS1/2 and the AV connector and all it does is splice in an extra composite connector so you can plug your gun into it to intercept that info. They used to be included in the box with the G-Con45 If your connecting to the TV via composite video anyway you don't need the adaptor, you can use an ordinary RCA "Y" splitter to just connect both yellow connectors from the PS1 and the gun into a single composite socket on the TV. That works just as well. The Guncon2 wasn't usually packaged with a Namco adapter, but it did have a "T-connector" which is functionally the same as the Y-splitter. eBay is going to be your best bet, or a popular 2nd hand vintage games retailer in your country. A Namco Adpaptor: www.ebay.com/itm/166693980384 A RCA Y Splitter : www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183727301263
@@widge I do have the T-connector you are referring to. I should be good then right?
Yeah. If you're only using composite video then you should be good

I’ve Sinden and batocera v38 but I can’t use the Sinden for die hard.
it could easily be a configuration issue. it took me a long time to work out how to configure DHT (PS1) in RetroPie. You see, the game is 3-in-1, two parts are controller-based and only one is lightgun-based. If the PS1 detected a standard controller in either of its two ports you wouldn't be able to use a lightgun, even if it was connected. You could only play DH2 if you completely disconnected the controller and made sure only the gun was connected. The emulator behaves in exactly the same way, you have to set it up so that one port has a gun and the other is disabled. But if you do that then you lose access to the other two parts of the game which makes it quite a tough game to set up a general configuration for an emulator. As Batocera is quite tightly controlled, I don't know how easy it is for you to change configs. But I expect a decision was made to set it up for controller use (either knowingly or unwittingly). In any case, I would recommend you ask the question over at the Batocera discord, or in the Bato channel of the Sinden Lightgun discord, there may be a known solution already in place.
Does The King of Route 66 work?

Puzzled :/ Pi 5 is litterally 2.5x the speed of Pi4. Pi 4 Sega Rally 2 1 sec = 5 sec Pi 5 Sega Rally 2 1 sec = 2 sec 5 / 2.5 = 2 How on Earth do you get Star Wars Trilogy running at 1 per 1 ?
I can't remember if my Pi was overclocked for this video, I didn't mention it in the audio or the description so it probably wasn't, but an overclock certainly does help. SWT is one of the least demanding of the Model 3 games (not much scenery to draw in space) so quite easy to get good performance out of it. The simplest way to eke out the best performance is to refrain from increasing the resolution much above the original arcade res. Even small changes can have a big impact on the performance so its not worth it. This coming Friday I'll be releasing another video of SWT being played on Pi 5 with a realtime framerate monitor to accurately gauge the performance as I wasn't sure if some sections slowed down; Look out for that if you want to see how it goes. i already did a video of LA Machine Guns with a FPS monitor and that game really does suffer and slow down a lot. I'll try to find time test some other M3 games in the future too.
Very cool bud, great looking game too
Pretty cool, interesting game this sure is, which I just got on my home arcade system! I have a question though, which is can you fully use AimTrak light guns with it? With that gun, I CAN fire, but can't seem to use the other two inputs, which are reload, and grenade toss. Both of which I need to do with the mouse, which is kind of awkward.
I don't know much about Aimtrak, but I don't see why you couldn't use it with this game. This game puts reload on the "Right Mouse button" so as long as you can allocate R-Mouse to one of the aimtrak's buttons then it should work. The Sinden software allows each of the gun's buttons to be configured with just about any mouse or keyboard input, I think Aimtrak has similar configuration software to allow that too.
