The higher bridgedeck will only eliminate that hull slap at anchor. I Sailed/crewed on a St. FRANCIS 50' cat from Capetown to Annapolis in 2016. Anytime we had wind/swell on the beam, we had slap and sometimes hard enough to raise you out of your bunk.
I know it’s common on all cats but the Gemini only sits less than 1 foot off the water. So pretty much any swell it slaps. But at anchor is by far the most frustrating part.
Your videos lately have been a pleasure. Wonderful locations, friends and children to liven up the experience. Just what all the work is for. And nice videography/editing, e.g. that lovely stretch between 3:33 and 4;18.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really enjoyed putting this video together and reliving the moments.
Hull slap can be dealt with. You buy a beach inflatable like a raft or a small boat and you put it under the bow at night with a tether just long enough for it to float just under the lower part of the bridge deck and leave it tied, it will block the water and provide a cushion so no more hull slap. Takes only a few minutes to put in place and remove.
Dang I just might have to give that a try!!!

It’s a family traveling! But thanks for watching 100% of the video 🤙🏼
WE LOVE Banderas Bay! Especially la Cruz de Huanacaxtle which has become our second home. We actually just uploaded a video about it too! Cheers 🍻 kzread.info/dash/bejne/lquKttVwk7TdYLQ.htmlsi=lL0a89fVq7rAYEtn
WOW. If those seas were too big and 14 hrs. at sea is a long slog, I encourage you to get a motor home and go see the prairies. You may love it. Give it a chance.
Haha sailing is slow going and sometimes no way out of the bad scenarios. Still beautiful though. Don’t worry, we get plenty of adventures on land as well!
Interesting things to see everywhere you turn in the tropics, right? So much life. I liked the -dinosaur- crocodile sanctuary.
Crocodiles are not my favorite thoughts when I’m out swimming off the boat haha
Really enjoying your adventures ❤️
Thanks for watching!
Very nice.
Glad to not be heading north against the wind anymore haha
Where is the fishing vid?
It’s wildlife filming blue fin tuna foamers. Check it out! kzread.info/dash/bejne/jHqAo7ZmZ6vXY6Q.htmlsi=ModYPlNhQC3AJu5s
But it does just about kill me to see the baby in dingy without a life jacket on??
You should see the families riding motorcycles with babies on their hips here in this country haha. Totally understand but there was close to zero risk in this scenario.
Agree, a Mangrove Forest is a wonderful place. And lots of pretty little creatures like to live there. Interesting mix of jungle and desert, yeah. Wow: the shore birds scene at 7:37 is glorious! Too bad about having to leave a place like this to get provisions, lol. Pretty town, tho.
Running out of food in the beautiful remote places is always the worst because then you have to leave. Real bummer.
We lived in La Paz for about 2 years, loved it!! only came back to the states due to health issues. Our Dream was to settle in La Paz and sail all over the Sea of Cortes. I am very interested in the performance of your Gemini along the route and how it handles. Living Vicariously!!
La Paz is a fantastic city! We really enjoy walking the malecon and jumping off to all the local islands to explore! Beautiful area for sure.
Your daughter is so cute getting big
Her little personality really coming to life this season!
Cool you made it to LA cruz! Fun place, enjoy the pacific side try to make it down to barra.
We spent time at Tenacatita and barra!
Pleasant leg of cruising. Birthday girl enjoying herself. Lots of bird spotting. Pretty scene at 12:41. Wow, I didn't realize rain was so rare there. Obviously a blessing in those parts.
More birds to come once we reach the estuary in Tenacatita!
Great video can't believe Skyler's talking now Love the whale action, Ruby says hi
Every video Skylar is bigger and bigger 🫶🏼
How is it your fault? You didn't move it! They have insurance for just this reason. Edit: They definitely would've heard the hull crack when setting it down. This is 100% THEIR fault. But that's Mexico for you. It's cheap for a reason.
“It’s not our fault” proceed to make all repairs free of charge haha. Classic Mexico. Glad to be far away from that boat yard now
You talked about your Code 0 sail, what's the difference between that and screecher on my Gemini?
From my understanding they are very similar and sometimes term used interchangeably. Ours had a tag on the sail that said “code 0” so I tend to refer it as such. But it’s a large light wind sail best for 60-120 angles 12knts or lighter. We use it for downwind use wing on wing also but roll it back up if winds get above 12knts.
You need to take the core out of the 10 foot of your furling line. I had the same problem with mine until I found that solution.
Good advice. It’s my own fault because I upsized the line but went a size too big haha just haven’t gotten around to spending more money for the correct line.
If you’ve shown it, I missed it. What kind of water maker do you have and where is it located? I’ve just bought a 105mc.
We went with the Seawater Pro 12v watermaker. It is affordable and makes a decent amount of water but it does use a lot of power so we have to use it wisely on solar. We loosely installed it underneath the starboard aft bed.
make video about : how much for this trip cost you please!
I should have been tracking that haha food is a bit more expensive in Mexico it seems but otherwise being on anchor is free every night. Depending on how much diesel fuel you use is the biggest expense next to groceries.
how expensive is this?
All a lifestyle choice. For us it’s medium expense because we avoid marinas but we do get whatever food we want to eat
That sunset backdrop in LA Paz looks beautiful
Sunrises and sunsets are the best part of this lifestyle 🫶🏼
Nice! Im up on Lake Ontario Canada and did the Lake Ontario 300 last season solo on my c&c 32, the sleep was tough so I get it lol. Hoping to do the 600 Next solo. Subbed and looking forward to seeing your next vid!
That’s awesome! Solo sailing has always intrigued me and I want to do a lot more of it. The Gemini would be a good boat for it if we didn’t live on it full time and have so much extra weight from all our stuff. Maybe someday I’ll have a little racer/cruiser to play on solo. Thanks for the support!
@@theadventuresons1223 Ya I get the extra weight. I lived on my C&C for a few years. Still have it but liveaboard on a 55 custom Trawler with my wife on Lake Ontario. Love liveaboard! Still own the C&C but its our fun boat now. When we retire we plan on getting a 42-55 foot mono and globe trot. Love those Geminis! We have a few at our marina. Anyway keep up the adventure and looking forward to seeing more!
what do you do all day when you are all day sailing?
Try not to lose our minds haha. Actually the days tend to go by. If the sails are up sometimes it’s constant adjusting for the wind changes and speeds. But a lot of music, podcasts, hanging out together, watching for whales and just letting the mind drift.
Story continuity issues
Yeah man with a toddler, wife, running our business, and trying to sail around full time not everything gets filmed 100%. These are glimpse into our life. But thanks for watching.
How did you patch the dingy?
The dinghy patch was filmed in the “boat yard disasters video”. I did a whole piece of filming on just doing the patch 🤙🏼
Where is the bulkhead repair video?
The workers at the boatyard did the fiberglass repair as they were the ones who did the damage. I didn’t get a chance to film everything.
did you save the squid or what ?
Bro you know we held onto dried up stinky squid for like 3 days!
Well done. I laughed out loud when Skylar said “No”.
She did the best out of all of us and still didn’t have a good time haha
Well done. I laughed out loud when Skylar said “No”.
Haha
Good job, captain, completing that challenging passage. Great that your child did well physically. Lovely dawn at 4:35. Sleep must have been awesome.
We tried to time lighter wind to make it slow but comfortable but what we got was big swell and light wind haha. Oh well hopefully we time it better next time. I just prefer if the swell is up we at least have the benefit of wind!
Glad to get the update. It's challenging sailing, with weather windows and work obligations. And now a long passage to make, but will be interesting to watch. Stay safe, keep a look out for whales.
Having work makes it tough to plan for sure!
That is A LOT of groceries! Haha! Hopefully you get caught up on sleep I don't know how you do it!
You should see it when we get more than 2 weeks worth haha. It’s tough to do though.
Looking forward to the next video of your crossing!
I should get it edited this week. It was a doozy haha
Hey I've been looking at buying a Gemini 105, and I've done the Baja coastline twice in my life on other boats. What kind of fuel tankage do they have? I was thinking it was only 35 gallons but you guys seem to be going the entire 800 miles without refueling! I know there's fuel in Bahia Tortugas but don't know if there is in Magdalana Bay...
Yeah I believe the onboard tanks are 16 or 18 gallons each and there are 2. We also carried 30 gallons in Jerry jugs. Topped up in Bahia Tortuga since that’s the only main spot between Ensenada and Cabo. But it’s downwind sailing and the Gemini does great! I wish I could do it again and have a spinnaker to let it cruise!
@@theadventuresons1223 last time I did that stretch was four years ago on a 38 foot catamaran that had a beautiful spinnaker. Some days were racing down the waves at 11 1/2 to 12 knots! I’ve seen other people with those Gemini catamarans, who also pack extra diesel and Jerry calves. I have a Catalina 30 here in Alaska and I also packed 15 extra gallons tied to Lee boards on the rail.
It can definitely be a wild downwind ride some of the days but the best would be those lighter wind days on a catamaran with a spinnaker flying. As long as we are moving 4knts we are moving! I do fly my screecher sail wing on wing with the main and it does pretty well downwind.
@@theadventuresons1223 I've heard of the screechers but have never used one. Sounds like they're sort of a code zero and are really good off the wind and downwind. Yep, I did 7.5 knots w/ my asym on a race 2 years ago on my 30' Catalina but it was way overpowered and started to swing from side to side. Fortunately it was in a sock and I had it down in about a minute!
Good Video❤❤
Thanks for watching!
All those rigs, great people, and a beautiful beach, had to be hard to leave Agua Verde! Can't wait to see the next exploration!
It really was hard. Everyone from the beach is trying to meet up again somewhere because we all miss each other 😢
Maybe in AK this summer?
That would be amazing!
Love the style of this channel and your future seems promising. Look forward to next episode.
Thanks a lot for the support! Our passage video should be a good one and out soon.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Sad we couldn’t catch up on the beach again 😢
Cool video. I’m so glad you got to go back with family for Christmas. Really looking forward to the next one. Good job.
We didn’t last year and it made the season feel really long without seeing family. So breaking up the season was a nice change!
The best advice we ever had was “ buy a boat for where you want to go!” We sailed our Gemini from East Coast to the Bahamas for a few years, but bought a Lagoon 380 for the Caribbean. Here on the Pacific we have had monohulls. Inside steering is great for Inside Passage to Alaska.
Wish I could have seen so much into the future. We had never cruised before and had a newborn so the Gemini made a great floating condo. The Lagoon 380 seems like the perfect setup for us as it wouldn’t limit the “where we want to go”. Every time I sail upwind I dream of a monohull haha but life at anchor is so nice in a catamaran!
Lovely boat ❤ might see you around Bribie island one day 😊 newest Subscribers
That would be a dream! Thanks for the support!
Love the footage you got of the whales! Very nice!
Thanks! I wish we could have gotten more but they were diving down pretty quick and I would lose them.
Nice get together at such a lovely place. Looks like you're heading south, toward tropical paradise? It's a challenging life, interested to see how you do. Good luck.
Yes it’s time to head for mainland Mexico and find some warm weather, surf, and more friends. Should be some good sailing content coming soon.
Great video! Thx
Thanks for the support!
I love the way this Gemini is rigged with all lines running through to the cockpit with clutches. Could you do a highlight on that, or share some pictures of the setup and where the blocks are placed? We are in the process of buying a 105mc so I'm working on the upgrade list. :-) Thanks!
Yeah I’ll try and remember in an upcoming video to show the setup. It’s my favorite thing and I believe is so much safer than sending someone up front, especially in bad conditions. I can do almost everything from the cockpit. Makes short hand or single hand sailing really easy on this boat.
I just got my new to me Gemini 105 last July. I have been learning and getting to know the boat. I will love to see your set up, because mine is probably the original from 1997
We have a bunch of sailing coming up this week as we are moving south so I’ll show it all on one of our long sail days!
