So-called Peter Lorre" was born László Löwenstein. So-called "George Raft" was born George Ranft. So-called "Gilbert Roland" was born Luis Antonio Dámaso de Alonso, which was too many names. So-called "Fernandel" was born Fernand Joseph Désiré Contandin, which was too many names. So-called "Trevor Howard" was born Trevor Wallace Howard-Smith, which was too many names & hyphenated. {Why would anyone, ESPECIALLY a man, put an unnecessary hyphen in their name. So-called "Ronald Adam" was born -Ronald George Hinings Adams, which was too many names. Bottom line: some things in life are better left alone and more important than money & vanity. One of them is your birth name, that always should be respected. The only exception, of course, would be when women get married & add their husband's last name to their's.
