MAK MOTO

MAK MOTO

Welcome to MAK MOTO, I'm Matt and I'd like to share my experiences and adventures riding motorcycles. I grew up riding motorcycles and ATVs off-road, but hadn't rode motorcycles until a couple years ago when I got my first street bike, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. Since then I've been drawn into motorcycling, adding a KTM 390 Adventure for travel and off-road riding. I hope to share what I've learned and provide entertaining content. Appreciate your patronage!

    Talking about those other bikes, do you like what you’re doing now Ktm 390 adventure is a good bike. As you well know you open it up you’ve got power not a whole lot compared to the big bikes you’ve got power watching this video you’re just putting around on dirt roads. Good bike on decent commute And light sink track what you have is a good.

    Yes! to everything you said. I have the 2023, with the onroad & offroad modes. These do the job in altering ABS & TC behavior, so no need to fuss further with the menu. Learned here that the earlier model has 2 rear DC outputs and the front one. 2023 only has the one on the instrument panel, so that's a downgrade. Otherwise, all good.

    Just found this review & subscribed. Amazingly, except for my not knowing then about the Norden 901, I went through exactly the same process, thought exactly the same way about all the competitors (including the Versys 300 being the last alternative), and decided on the 2023 KTM Adventure SW for exactly the same reasons. I'm glad I chose the KTM and am happy you are too. In addition to the advanced electronics, so much of this bike is adjustable. The only mod I consider necessary is horizontal, larger foot pegs. The only one I consider highly desirable is a Fuel X Lite.

    My 390 and Svartpilen 401 both can be pretty easily stalled in stock configuration if you’re not being careful. The fuelx controller totally changed that and now it’s very hard to stall.

    It's crazy how the Vit and Svart are the same bike except for tires, bars, footpeg position and colour I just bought a Vit yesterday and was staring at the Svart the whole time because I think it's hands down the nicer of the two. (I only bought the Vit because it was $6080 all in while the Svart was $6800+ tax) $400 for new tires and $450 for bar conversion I can turn a Vit into a white Svart.

    Unless you’re strictly concerned with the better off-road bike, hands down I’d get the 390. Great all around bike and still very capable off road. KLX would be unpleasant and boring to road trip for any amount of time and lacks fuel range of 390.

    Try holding the footpeg in alignment with the actual attachment point not 1” behind it. They line up pretty close. This is a totaly bad and false review due to the user not knowing sh@$ about stuff

  • @makmoto0606
    @makmoto06063 ай бұрын

    I think you missed point, which was the angle the pegs formed with the centerline of the bike. That they are not at a perpendicular fore and aft, but angle forward. I was holding the stock pegs in the plane with the footpeg hinge to demonstrate the angle not the distance. Perhaps you should calm down and do a double take before spreading hateful nonsense.

    My best tool for going down steep decents, is just start rolling down and leave the clutch out in 1st gear. Easiest way to control the bike, the engine braking wont lock the rear but is enough drag to limit it about 8mph letting u focus on your line. U can work in the front brake a little whenever but u never need it if u dont touch the throttle.

    Would love a compare-contrast between your 390 Adventure and this Blackarrow. Same frame, same engine, etc ... my guess, the story would really revolve around the 145mm versus 200mm ground clearance before skid plates, though less for both after skidplates. The '24 appears to have rectified some of this, listing 180mm from factory. Endless mental debate which to choose: 2nd hand 390 Adventure, last years model (23) Svart with rebate, or the new '24 with unknown delivery dates and potentially many "first batch issues". My gut tells me, after watching this video and your "Is it worth modifying the KTM 390 A", that you loved the Svartpilen but saw it's limitations, so you bought the 390 Adventure to cover that. But now with a perhaps less showy middle-ground '24 Svartpilen can handle more. Hmmm.

  • @makmoto0606
    @makmoto06065 ай бұрын

    I love the look of the Svartpilen, but it is a total luxury having that bike while having the 390ADV. The 390 will do everything that the Svartpilen does and really gives up nothing. The 390 is still an engaging and fun ride on the streets, but is more comfortable and capable than the Svartpilen. So only get the Svartpilen if the style is a must have, otherwise get the SW version of the 390. I think you can get those with a big discount right now and you'll have a great bike.

    I'm an old guy (62) and looking to downsize the Tiger 800. This bike is on the top of my list and seems to fit the requirements, light, just enough power, just enough technical stuff, and probably a blast to zip around on. I'm done with the tough trails, and I'm getting old. Just need to get a test ride someplace to make up my mind. Btw, I also have a 690 R and plan on keeping that one, it's just too much fun to ride around on. Maybe this 390 will convince me to part with the 690..thanks for the videos you've posted. ✌️

  • @bjjw
    @bjjw6 ай бұрын

    Well said. Great, light and capable little bike. I agree with quickshifter being iffy, the display buttons hard to work, the gas info being totally off. The tires are very good, and will do close to 9k, and very good on the road and do good on off-road. The suspension can be hard but it can be set up for soft for off road and it changes the bikes completely. There is a known issue amongst owners about the bike shutting off in mid ride, not confirmed by manufacturer, and apparently caused by too rich fueling. Can be fixed with a module and better air filter, which, apparently improve performance. The bike is great fun to ride and with all its corks still an amazing value, especially if you get it one or 2 yr old. Suspension and clearance of 14cm is not much, but I rode mine through low to mid off roading and had no issue nor did I bottom out. On even gravel roads it is blast to run and very composed. The gearing is little different. First gear is litte twichy and short, 6th gear is for cruising. Lack of wind protection makes it bit uncomfortable at above 110kmh speeds and I hear it will go as fast as 160kmh. I took it on highway and it handles great and has plenty of power to cruise and pass cars. SuperMoto mode, or ABS off feature is good and should be used on any off road setting. The sum of it's parts is a great package. It is little on the tall side being close to 33" seat and the riding position is of a naked bike. There are inexpensive engine guards that would add to its off road protection, and bar riser that would make it more of a scrambler. With 335lbs wet and 44hp it is, to me a great value and lot of fun in any situation. I ride liter naked and large ADV bikes and still took this one as it is such well built bike with premium features, rides great, looks great, and price is less than what the competitors like Honda SCL500 or Triumph Scrambler 400 do, to be the two direct competitors, both more money, less power, lesser components and lot heavier. Power to weight ratio on this bike give it best power and performance in class. Mine does not have read mud guard and has just a pipe extender which gives it a nice growling sound proper for scramblers. Overall, even with all the small things the bike has going against, I am extremely happy with it and recommend.
