    Does the bowl not cause the water heat up too quickly ?

  • @easyworkacres
    @easyworkacres3 күн бұрын

    I’m sure it heats up some but not enough that the chickens have had trouble drinking from it. Only certain hours of the day get sun on it as well, different depending on the orientation of the coop in the field since it’s mobile.

    🎉A white bantam roo showed up one day. We kept him in with our bantam cochins and silkys. I saw his spurs growing long and curved upwards. We raised pastured pigs and had a low strand of hot wire just 6" above the ground to keep pigs from rooting under the fence. One day I came home from work to find him laid out on the ground with his huge curved spur hooked IN THE HOT WIRE STRAND! Quickly I ran to shut off the juice and un hooked the little guy, expecting him to be dead. HE WASN'T! His spur fell cleanly off and never grew back. I kept his other spur cut short. We had him 12 more years 😂

    We had a rooster do the same thing on our poultry net one time. Was hanging from one leg upside down. Thought for sure he was a goner because I wasn’t sure how long he’d been handing there. Walked off with a limp for all of a few hours and was totally fine from there. 😂

    Can you make a waterproof version with a removable lid so you can remove it to feed them maybe by drilling a hole through the middle of the bottom and put a thin metal rod from the bottom up and securing it to the bottom with a nut and put cover on that is held on by the metal rod with two more nuts so that when you need to feed them, you can remove the top nut and remove the cover for the feed and then slide the lid back on the thin metal rod and put the top back on and protect it from rain, snow, sleet, and hail. My chickens are so expensive just because their food gets rained on and then it gets ruined and Texas has been getting a lot of rain the other day it rained and ruined like a third of a bag full of feed it’s only probably $15 worth, but it adds up when it’s raining every day.

    That thing is gonna need to be cleaned all the time. Try horizontal poultry nipples.

  • @easyworkacres
    @easyworkacres7 күн бұрын

    Actually doesn’t need to be cleaned all that often. It’s worked great for us for a long time now. We’ve tried poultry nipples but they don’t tend to hold up well with 150 hens messing with them all day everyday, and on a mobile coop that we pull all over the farm the small hardware gets shaken up and banged around a lot.

    hello from TX. My chick with i raised from hatching was attacked yesterday by our young rescue dog.. I am doing everything to help her to recover.. she likes watermelon. I bring her fresh one every day.. she doesnt eat today but still pecks on watermelon.. I am afraid to ask.. did those chicks survived? sorry if it is painful topic. and thank you

  • @easyworkacres
    @easyworkacres28 күн бұрын

    If I’m remembering correctly it was 11 injured and 8 or 9 survived. They are fully grown and healthy now. Watermelon is a good way for the chicken to get hydration especially in this heat. I would still keep regular food and water available in case she does start eating again. Not sure if you’ve tried sprinkling some crushed aspirin in some water or on the watermelon you’re giving her but often times animals in general will not eat while they are in pain. So the aspirin will knock down the pain enough that they feel like eating. Hope this helps!

  • @easyworkacres

    We’ve tried nipples. No matter what brand they always seem to leak, break, or not work all together. Not sure why but maybe it’s because we have 150 hens they just don’t hold up to the amount of use.🤷‍♂️

    I’m not sure what temps are like where you live but typically as long as we collect everyday we don’t have any issues with frozen eggs in the winter until it gets down to the teens. Once it’s below 20 we do have to collect more than once a day to prevent frozen eggs.

    This is exactly like pulling out a humans fingernails which is considered one of the most cruel forms of torture thats why people say to file them down instead of pulling them off

  • @easyworkacres
    @easyworkacres2 ай бұрын

    It’s not at all actually. If it were then the rooster would be losing its mind from the pain and he’s obviously fairly relaxed minus not liking being held. I’m not pulling anything out of its leg, I am cracking the spur near the base and it takes very little effort to do. No contact with any nerves is occurring. And his true spur is still fully in tact. I am not cruel to any of my animals and if this was truly harmful I wouldn’t do it or advise it to others.

    Hey! I believe my fencing is broken somewhere, how would I find this?

  • @easyworkacres
    @easyworkacres2 ай бұрын

    All you can do is walk the fence and try to find the break. You could use a tester around different places along the fence to locate where you’re getting the most power drop off. As you get closer to the break or a possible grounding the current reading should get lower. Is it netting or single lines?

  • @easyworkacres
    @easyworkacres2 ай бұрын

    If it’s poultry netting check your bottom line where it attaches to the step in post. The posts where you connect your charger to. Sometimes when you step in your post the bottom hot line will slide down and make contact with the metal at the bottom of the stake and ground your fence.
