The Gluttonous Geek

The Gluttonous Geek

My name is Catherine Barson Eastis, and I run the fandom food blog, The Gluttonous Geek. The Gluttonous Geek seeks to bridge the gap between food and fiction by developing recipes inspired by movies, TV shows, tabletop and video games, podcasts, books, and more.

My mission is to delve into these stories, explore their worlds, get to know these characters, and then manifest my findings into a recipe that you can cook. It’s like an English paper you can eat.

This KZread Channel is where I will host the vods from my Twitch show "Munchies & Minis," a live cooking show with original recipes inspired by tabletop role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and Shadowrun.

    Have to say, I thought this was going to be another funny little nerd video by someone totally unprepared for the outdoors...and I was almost right :) But I actually found myself enjoying it and want to see more - subscribed!

    I was wondering why did you changed the gender of Jack CG female character from she/her to He/Him?

  • @thegluttonousgeek

    In 1st edition Pathfinder, Jak Crimmy was male. References: Towns of the Inner Sea 2013 and Guide to Darkmoon Vale 2008.

    @@thegluttonousgeek thanks for that. I didn't know. I thought they were just showing Jack as a gender neutral name and that she could do anything a man could. Didn't realize they did a gender change

    I'm glad to have found this channel! I love the idea of cooking fantasy food, both in character and in real life, and the recipe was incredibly engaging!

    Thank you! Currently writing up one for a Cormyrian-style Pork Shoulder mentioned in Baldur's Gate III. Hint: It's a bit of a different take on a recipe made popular in the States by Julia Child.

    Love it :) that video tells the story so well that it doesn't really need words, it was beautifully made! And it looks like you have some lighter weight equipment this time, as for tarps just get a DD 10 X10 in green untill you master period waterproofing and tarp setup, it won't look to terribly out of place and it will be waterproof, however you might have been ok if you had setup with a steeper angle so the water ran down the inside to the floor instead of dripping off the back, like a canvas ridge tent, maybe that's something to try?

  • @cartereastis6794
    @cartereastis679411 ай бұрын

    The tarp wasn't so bad. I could have made it through the night, especially with a steeper setup. What really failed me was the ground cloth. Once I felt cold water seep through from below, I was done. It and the tarp need better waterproofing, and I really need to build up a debris bed to get me off the ground and out of puddles. The ground cloth was at least helpful shedding water as a poncho on the hike out.

    Enjoyed the video. It seems that this was a good learning experience. There's a reason modern hikers/backpackers use modern materials. ;-) Just an FYI on fire making... If using a ferro-rod, charcloth is not necessary. (It doesn't hurt--it just uses up your charcloth faster for no real gain.) If using flint and steel, it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. Also, it looks more 'period appropriate', and goes well with your overall aesthetic.

  • @cartereastis6794
    @cartereastis679411 ай бұрын

    Yep the charcloth wasn't needed here at all. In my third video, kzread.info/dash/bejne/YolorrxtoJi9cc4.html , I do switch to flint and steel. Thanks.

    That was really fun and beautiful to watch! I'm 44, and pretty out of shape currently, so I totally feel your pain. :) I take 4-5 mile walks regularly, but that's on sidewalk, and forest hiking with heavy weights is WAY harder. You did good! Also, please, please don't take this the wrong way...from one drinker to another, be really aware of swelling/circulatory issues in your hands/feet. It might have been lighting, but in your 1st vid, your left hand looked really red and swelled in one scene, and it caused me worry. I'm guessing maybe your shoulder straps were cutting off circulation, since your load was heavy. Make sure to stretch, and get your hands above your head if you see that happening. Swelling can cause nerve damage; my dad's been in a wheelchair for years, and it happens a ton to him. Awesome vid, subbed, thank you :)

    While I do enjoy my drink, the red hand has nothing to do with it or my fitness. That’s a birthmark. Red left hand, arm, shoulder and chest since I was born. Thank you for your concern, but nothing to worry about.
