Since people got a system of mass distribution, current pop music has always been about the current younger generation. It was true in the 1920s. It is now. Beato isn't young. So the new music isn't being made for him. He's not the target market. As such, the purveyors of the current stuff couldn't care less whether he likes it or not. Nor should they. Commercial music is about sales. So Beato needs to get with "the sound" that's being marketed for the current young people, or find something else to do. People aren't going to make the music he had years ago again. It had its time in that particular zeitgeist. I'm Beato's age. But unlike Beato, I've never made a living from music. And I fell out of pop culture when I went to uni. I became an adult. Pop music is for young people. When Rock and Roll first arrived, adults listened to Jazz. Rock was "bubblegum" music. Nowadays, there are people in their 60s, 70s, and even 80s who still listen to the same stuff as when they were kids. And, there's a market for it. How many radio stations are still playing Bohemian Rhapsody to death?

Talent agent seems like a pretty decent scam. Aspiring, inexperienced artists are everywhere these days. Just explain you can't drop names because of NDAs. Maybe team up with one of those scam companies, selling garbage plugins or MIDI packs to "elevate your mix". People believing in this crap would probably fall for a fake agent, too.

I can't say I disagree some of Rick Beato's points (and I'm not even middle aged... yet). Maybe I'm out of touch because I don't have Spotify, or a lot of social media accounts. That being said, the "unhinged" response video (or at least the clips that were played) by Rick Beato seem like an underprepared rant. Biggest elephant that scampered off: why is Rick wrong about MIDI packs (maybe that's why it was omitted from the Beato-Bingo)? No, I don't get a lot of new music, but I don't hate it either, for the most part. I always feel like the production values of today's music are USUALLY (not always) wasted opportunities: immaculate, pristine, wardrobes and shiny new timbres but uber-conjoined twins with weak cores of banal, disposable musicality. At the end of the day, nothing hits me as hard as nostalgia did when composers/producers/bands/e-musicians had far less to work with and the genres were publishable with less fidelity or uber-squashed mastering. Heck, I even prefer indie games to AAA if I had the time to play them.

"Classical" EDM styles aren't my bag. I get what Rick's saying. I try not to over quantize the performances of my "virtual" band mates :D. I try to dial in classic sounds manually using various Amp Sims. Nobody cares but me, and that's 100% OK! On the flip side, I've tried to do stem and sample based music and I can't do that yet! I don't have the ear or the patience to go through samples trying to figure out that "fire" hook I can get by layering x,y,z samples and running them through a,b,c signal chains. There's serious musicianship there, just of a different type than I practice. There's room for all of it.
