Great review. I am frankly overwhelmed by the technology if not the price. Yes skip the digital mirrors but the latest collision avoidance features are astounding. Well done VW. As you allude to, really wonder about the batteries being under the floor in an off-road capable SUV especially so many. And why oh why an inflation kit instead of a space saver? I have needed mine once. The sidewall was damaged such that I needed a new tyre. I was able to put on the space saver myself, inflate it with a small portable pump and go straight to a retailer and purchase a new one. Yes I am whistling in the wind I know but with an inflation kit it would have been a tow truck - great if I’m out in the boondocks. We can only continue to whinge I guess. Ok enough of my usual gripes. Off topic but I have just upgraded to fibre to the premises but the picture quality of your review was outstanding. Excellent review. I can’t believe though we are looking at over $100000 for a midrange people mover. Have we been subtly brainwashed into accepting this as the norm? People movers are clearly bought by large families. We still own our first model 7 seat Honda Odyssey and it cost the same as Holden Calais new and apart from the height was about the same dimensions. Not cheap then but served the same purpose as this. It’s been utterly trouble free (when Honda were top of their game) apart from one minor alternator rebuild and usual servicing.We raised our family in it and found it perfect for city driving and great for country trips but could have used more power on steep hills and boot space with all seats in use. But it does have a space saver. Would we be able to afford this model if we were looking today for its electric equivalent? No way! Where are we heading Alan?
@gaycarboysАй бұрын
100% right. remember (as we said in the written review) half of the price is the battery which should last the life of the car. But i did ask how many 5-kid families could possibly afford 140k for the GT-Line!

Pity Kia spent the money on all the fancy extras instead of a decent engine, 5 speed auto, proper rear seating and a nicer ride. I could live without all those drivers aids in such an entry level car. Mazda managed a proper 1.5L engine, excellent auto, great handling and a proper back seat when they released the Mazda2 over 20 years ago. Ours is still going strong. Kia seem to simply have got their priorities wrong. Look for a secondhand Mazda 2 instead.
@gaycarboysАй бұрын

Agreed but my point is Kia seems to put too much emphasis on bells and whistles and not the fundamentals. That power output is unacceptable in my view as is the rear seating and boot space. Well balanced and very fair review. Overpriced, especially when all those options are added. 1.5L turbo producing a very modest output presumably for fuel consumption. Except you were unable to even get close during your test drive. And I dislike the DCT transmission especially for city driving too. And why no space saver when there is room for one? Far better out there. For example Our married daughter bought a Mazda CX30 when needing a compact SUV urgently for imminent arrival of our grandson and there was a shortage of cars following Covid etc. it was, I think, $42000 or a bit less top model and came with 2.5L normally aspirated petrol engine, traditional 6 speed automatic and space saver tyre. This was with a company which uses Lexus hybrids exclusively, possibly the NX SUV, and except for the price I wouldn’t consider anything else in the range. I’ve chatted about the vehicle, whenever I had a fresh driver and without exception they all rave: lovely to drive, utterly trouble free, great dealer support and pretty good fuel economy. As a passenger I can’t fault them. They are so beautifully built, very comfortable and so elegant. When you get in one with 300000km yet it still feels like a new car you can see why they sell so well. The price of your test car is a bit of a shock but I can see why you liked it so much. Had another Lexus taxi trip Thursday to the hospital following lengthy treatment for Stage 4 prostate cancer to see Professor. The company uses exclusive Lexus cars and to kill the time I ask every new drivers how they find the car. I find the cars so beautifully built, finished and comfortable and every driver loves them. They are so trouble free. One cabby said “how many kms did I think it had covered”? I guessed 100 thousand from the ride and appearance and he laughed and said it had just been in for its four hundred thousand kilometre service. It was still like new and apart from fluid changes it only needed new front brake pads. In the past year I have had at least 26 Lexus trips (almost all SUVs) and the cars all felt and looked like new. Just had to pass this on. By the way the cancer is in remission but the treatment has left me so sick. Really enjoy your reviews.

I do have the same Alfa mechanic, still, after 24 years so just need to test drive when well enough and then start looking. 😁
if you love you Alfa then go for it. they are lovely to drive.
Thanks mate. Always enjoy your reviews, you both being mature men like me. You bring such expertise and professionalism to your road tests and so I try to comment each time as I feel you deserve a much larger following. Sorry if I am so verbose but have been housebound for over 12 months, diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer and endured the most horrible treatment. Finished in early December and the outcome does seem very promising. Then suddenly last week I am feeling so much better.👏 So all men over 50 please go get checked.
Does this has ambient lighting
that's a very old review. unsure what it had now
Enjoyed your review as ever. Sorry, $102000 for an upmarket VW with an annoying DSG transmission. And that swoopy rear end sure is attractive but purely style over substance. Looks good but rear legroom and boot are unnecessarily compromised and what no spare wheel? A fail for me. 😗
i must admit i'd prefer a spare too. but it GOES:)
Thanks guy's for your great review. Brought a new Gt 130 8speed auto in fusion orange 8 10 months ago. Absolutely love the car and no problems or recalls. Highly recommended and one of the best looking cars in the carpark. Keep up the brilliant work.
What a beautiful car and what a joy to be able to drive it. I’d be looking for tunnels everywhere just to hear the sound of that glorious V8. Great review, thank you.
absolutely right. It sounded amazing
Piano black can be polished, just take care not to scratch it.
Ah yes, my favorite SUV! But for now, I call it the Alfa Cantaffordglio !!
that's very clever. might steal that;)
The ultimate uber prestige
dead posh;) you could do a long trip in the back
I’ve bored you silly with my previous comments of having taken around 50 journeys in Lexus cabs as a result of Prostate Cancer, first tests and then treatment. Nice review.
never bored! i'd love to have a go in the LS400 and see how it feels after all this time
An EV one can truly lust after
I cannot tell you how gorgeous it is to drive
@@gaycarboys I need one!
Good review as ever. I like the way Mazda are heading. A lot of money but so is the opposition but with Mazda quality and reliability. If this is in your price range certainly worth short listing. After sales service is excellent with Mazda. Have you noticed how many Mazda you see on the road? For a such a small company they must be doing something right.
2nd biggest retailer in the country after Toyota so not surprised really. we have the smaller ones coming up soonish
Correction: at 0:50 you mentioned Takumi package as $50,000. It's only $5000.
Mate I am so glad, so very very glad for you. Thanks very much for passing that on.
I also added you comment to the written review.:)
Thank you. That’s very much appreciated.
If it used the Insignia or Regal name then Holden might still be in production.
insignia already failed twice. Maybe regal might have worked
