    By the way, if we read Matthew 24:34-36 we see, “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So, you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near-at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away." This is saying, when we see the things mentioned in the Olivet Discourse start happening, THAT generation will not pass until all is fulfilled.

    I understand what you are saying about "fundamentalist" groups not preparing children for the adult world in which they are going to come across many bad ideas. How do you mitigate the risk on the other side of secularizing them? As I saw those who were too sheltered struggle in adult life, I saw some who were overexposed (even though it was from a Christian perspective) and had the same struggles. What is the guiding principle(s) you use to for helping to protect from this? (And yes, I understand you can't guarantee it either way).

    There is risk in anything. There is risk in exposing our children to unbiblical ideas such as those found in anti-Christian works such as Darwin, Nietzsche, or other enemies of the Gospel. There is even risk in secular works that borrow from the Christian faith or biblical truth like Homer or Virgil. In the former they are trying to tear down what we believe. In the later they are commonly-not always-missing core elements of redemptive truth. But, in both cases we are dealing with elements of life that our children will encounter at some point. We simply believe it best that their first encounter be guided by teachers and parents through the lens of Scripture.

Kids matter. Moms matter. Dads who support those moms and kids matter. Families matter. Recently I was told that American Sign Language has been recognized as fulfilling foreign language study requirements. Though I appreciate ASL, I wonder if it has the same place as Latin, Greek, or another modern foreign language in classical education. Thoughts?

    While many places do count ASL as a foreign language credit, we currently do not at VSA. We believe learning the written and spoken grammar, word pronunciation, and culture of countries outside of the US to be of immense benefit to students. Gary really didn't address anything concerning whether he believes if Christ is coming back or that he just did in 70 ad. I haven't heard any convincing explanations on the thousand years in revelation.i can understand where he's coming from with what little he addressed but I'm not convinced with preterism it just leaves too many unanswered questions!

    Here are some questions I have for the Preterist in regard to the Millennial reign: In Revelation 20 it says this, "Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should DECEIVE THE NATIONS NO MORE till the thousand years were finished. So, if you say we are in the Millennium now, that means, according to scripture, Jesus is reigning, and Satan is bound so as not to deceive the nations anymore. Satan is absolutely deceiving the nations; you have whole nations that are steeped in Islam, worshipping Allah instead of Christ. Some nations worship Buddha or one of the 300 million Hindu Gods. Other nations (communist nations) are atheistic. Then how can you say Jesus is reigning already from Heaven when we have a wicked sinful world? 2nd Timothy 3:1-5 it says, “There will be terrible times in the LAST days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God." IF Christ were reigning, do we really think we would have over a billion Muslims, who view Jesus as a prophet right below Mohamad, a billion Buddhists, who believe Jesus was an enlightened person, a billion Hindus, who believe Jesus studied yoga and became a guru to the Jews, a billion Catholics who are entrusting their souls to Mary at the hour of their death, nearly a billion atheists, the LGBTQ running rampant, TV shows and movies, that continually blaspheme God and His Christ, alcohol, drugs, human trafficking, and colleges that have become propaganda mills that promote Godless, Big-bang theology and Darwinian Evolution, and a host of other sinful deeds that will be eliminated during the reign of Jesus Christ, our Holy God.

    Ah, you want to create "free-thinking citizens." Admirable. The only problem there is, you can create free-thinking citizens, or you can create devout Christians, but you really can't do both. I can really go for the whole classical education trivium/quadrivium thing, but you just can't very well combine that with an education that creates religious ideologues who accept Christian theology (or any theology, for that matter) . It's like you've got an education where inquiry is the primary value, EXCEPT that there are a bunch of beliefs that are fenced off and not susceptible to examination or doubt. We can see this is in some of the video itself. It was a nice story about the guys planning for 500 years ahead, but where does the concluding claim come from that "that kind of vision is unique to a Christian worldview It's as if myopia or blindness is baked into the cake.

  • @NicholasKohen
    @NicholasKohen3 ай бұрын

    I don’t think you have ever read Biblical Studies or Theology because if you think theology and biblical studies means that you can’t inquire, you are either doing Muslim Classical Education or are just trying to act as an intellectual on subjects you don’t even though the meaning of.

  • @KenCunkle
    @KenCunkle3 ай бұрын

    @@NicholasKohen Gee, it's nice of you to accuse me of "acting as an intellectual," because really, I don't think I qualify at all as an "intellectual." I'm just a guy who can read and think critically and put together my thoughts in grammatical sentences. But I would say that I know quite well what "biblical studies" and "theology" are, if for no other reason than that it's easy to look up the definitions. The point was (and is) that it's a puzzlement that conservative and largely fundamentalist/literalist Christians have somehow concocted a curriculum that's basically at odds with itself, per my remarks above. I wouldn't say that theology and biblical studies means that you can't inquire at all, but I would say that if you're a fundamentalist/literalist Christian, then the scope of your inquiry will of necessity be limited. I don't think that if you're of that particular stripe you would seriously question whether the stories told in Exodus really correspond to any historical reality, or whether the plagues really afflicted the Egyptians and were sent by God, whether the Red Sea parted to let the Israelites escape, wheher God kept the Israelites alive for decades with daily drops of manna while they wandered the desert, etc., etc. Now, you might ask serious-sounding philosophical questions about whether Pharaoah had free will and knew what he was doing when he persecuted the captive Jews, or whether he was simply being used as a tool of God. But when the underlying beliefs are not on the table, such questions are sort of like saying that we know the moon is made of cheese, so the real question is about whether it's Swiss or cheddar. And this just seems odd to me given that so much of the classical curriculum contains stuff like the Iliad and Odyssey and Hesiod and similar stories/myths of the Greeks and Romans that nobody gives any credence to as far as them being accurate descriptions of things that happened in the past. Rather, they're simply treated as religious beliefs that people had before they knew better about how the world worked, but are nonetheless worthwhile for teaching us something about what it is to be a human on the earth and how to negotiate reality. Isn't it fairly obvious that the Jewish and Christian scriptures share a lot of the same characteristics? Apparently not, at least to some people, apparently not to you. Which is again weird, given your obvious hostility to Islam. Is it silly to believe that Mohammed flew on a winged horselike creature from Mecca to Jerusalem, after which he ascended to heaven? I sure think so. But that's not any sillier than thinking Jesus rose from the dead or turned water into wine, etc., or that after Jesus' death a bunch of other dead people crawled out of their graves to go back and tell their families in Jerusalem all about it. It reminds me of a story I once heard about some early missionaries in America going out to convert some native Americans. They told them about the creation per Genesis, and briefly about how Jesus, who was sent by God, died and rose again, and people who believe in him go to heaven when they die, while those that don't are punished forever in hell. In response, the Indians told the missionaries about their creation stories and religious ideas. The missionaries weren't up for this and even became offended and a tad angry at having to listen to a bunch of primitive superstitous nonsense, at which point the Indians said, "Hey, we listened politely when you told us stories about your gods. Why don't you afford us the same courtesy?"

    Without a Christian worldview, without the triune God of the bible, no philosophical questions can even be answered. He is before all things, its is he that makes objectivity possible (otherwise you only have subjective human beings), it is he who created and is therefore completely outside of the universe and its laws, you cannot be, do, or think without him. Every idea that says you can borrows from God in order to even formulate that idea. Without God there is no concept of being, and logically the only route you have is an anti-realist, subjectivist perspective (constructionism relativism etc) or put another way, nothingness ‘nirvana’ from eastern religions. The idea of being able to rationalise about God without God is useless, you don’t have anything to base your rationality on except yourself. It’s like the picture of people blindfolded describing an elephant that they can all feel but not see. Who is the one who can see the whole elephant? How can you be sure that your view is so complete? How did you get there? Anyway hope that helps - that’s the view of the Christian, and it’s the view that got western society so much further ahead than others, morally, scientifically, technologically. An acknowledgement of the reality of the triune God of scripture

    The Devil uses “useful idiots” like Gary DeMar’s erroneous Preterism to confuse Christians to avoid reading the Book of Revelation to receive a special blessing from Jesus. Preterism denies a future literal Kingdom of God on Earth lasting 1,000 years in which God’s Son Jesus Christ will finally receive worldwide acclamation.

    Yes, we who are partial preterists, postmill, and believe the biblical narrative love the book of Revelation. The four verses in the Revelation 20 passage about the 1000 years are not any more literal literal than various other biblical passages with the "1,000" figure. It just means a large number or quantity. Just like "God owns the cattle on a thousand hills". Does he not own the cattle on the 1000 and 1st hill? And also, "a day in your courts is better than a thousand days anywhere else". So could 1001 days outside the courts of God be better.? It's a figurative term and number. And nowhere in that passage does it say that his Reign is literally and physically upon the Earth. Just for your consideration as I used to be premill for many many years.

    This is my favorite part of this interview: “ You don’t have to be a majority to make a difference. It only takes 3 to 4 pounds of salt to preserve 100 pounds of meat. We are to be the salt and light of the earth. You don’t have to have the sun to light the darkness, you just need a candle. If we are faithful lights where we are at, if we are the salt of the Earth, we will begin to make an impact. That will change where we’re at, and as our Puritan forefathers said, ‘Do not curse the darkness, light a candle that can light 1000 more.’ That’s what education, that’s what ministry does, that’s what Godly family training is, and there are no quick fixes, but there are generational impacts. Our God says, ‘I will be the God of your children and of their children after them to 1000 generations of those that love me and keep my commandments.’ So we start right here turning the ship around in our families, in our church, in our state, and we know God is going to touch the future with our faithfulness, and that’s how we’re going to change the course of our nation. No quick fix, no quick politicians, no quick gimmick, no platform, but faithfulness now in each of those areas, doing our part, with a vision to touch the future and we will make a huge difference.” Thank you, this is so encouraging and inspires me to keep teaching my children and learning & growing with my discipleship group at church ❤ God Bless You both!

    Wow, I lived in Alaska where they have a similar program. I thought it was great that we go $2k a year, but sounds like that is quite low! The only problem I see with this, is that it drives the homeschooling prices up a lot. I have a lot of respect for VP, but they are incredibly expensive if you dont live in a state with a ESA program. (Such as missionaries living in a foreign country.) I think there ought to be a ministry that provides schoolinh for MKs. I taught grammar online (free) for 2 years during covid. There were about 10 students. Some were MK’s but it was basically the only social contact my kids had.

    How would this apply to military families who move frequently? Are there any programs for active duty families? I know there are impact aid forms we complete to add funding to our local public schools. Could these federal funds be available for homeschool families as well?
