    Before Dorothy heads to her audition, Uncle Henry refers to the Muppets as 'the most powerful puppets in Hollywood' i can't be sure but i think this is the first and only time in the muppet verse where they've been acknowledged outright as puppets.

    Iron Eagle is the better movie. Better soundtrack, better story, better montage, better action scenes, its my favorite 80s movie next to Rad and Over the Top. Grew up with Doug Masters and Jan Levinson.

    Howdy! I heard your joint podcast with the Cosmic Pizza trio, and I hadn't quite gotten to listening to one of the Play on Nerds podcasts yet. So, as a new listener, I'd like to know how well I pass the test of the intro (unsure about the ones in parentheses): Obi-Wan Spock Dalek Wilhelm Scream "Whiny" Luke S. Leeloo Dallas "You shall not" Multipass Would you like a Fry with that? Dr. Lazarus ("Whoopee"? this is the only one I can't even guess at) ("___ are to save him" - Snape? or still Galaxy Quest?) Sean "Boromir" Bean (Indiana Jones?) (... could be Sean "Ned" Bean, but sounds more like Jon Snow) F'n murlocs! Hagrid Deckard Cain! Kermit (not sure it's Henson, though) The Eleventh Doctor (Adama?) Now, that said, I'm only a few minutes in, but I'm quite enjoying what I hear so far. I look forward to poring over your backlogs, including seeing if MuppeTrek has discussed my favorite Jim Henson movie, "The Christmas Toy." :P Thanks for being engaging enough that I'm hooked already. Please keep being awesome. :) PS - I'm a voice artist myself (mostly music, but a fair bit of spoken word as well), so I want to thank you (Jarman, I think? Not sure) for the Audacity tip for dropping markers while recording, to make things easier to edit after the fact. I haven't gotten to test it yet, but that tip is invaluable enough to be easily remembered. That ought to be as helpful as the punch-and-roll feature.

    Pedantry: Your first pronounciation was correct, anyone who disagrees can fight me. Well, that's my years-long streak of not having to think about Gary Busey ruined, thanks for that. :P I'm currently eating my words from when I said they used many songs barely documented today, it's delicious. Great job on the music trivia, Steve!

  • @Quiltfish
    @Quiltfish4 жыл бұрын

    Pedantry: "A very brief cameo" was Oscar's line, not Sir Ustinov's. :P While nobody Muppet has been MeToo'd to my knowledge, I don't recommend looking up later writer and emergency guest Chris Langham's recent doings. Separate art from artist and all. Sorry about the downer trivia but this seems to have been the episode for it, with the Grace Lee Whitney horribleness and such. And since you mentioned it, I did the math: 86% of all guest stars sang, 90% if you count edge cases (it offends the amateur musician in me to call what Sylvester Stallone did "singing"). Season 1 is actually tied with season 4 for most non-singing guests.

    You jerks. I had a sore throat listening and laughing at the whole evil blanket bit made it worse. I can't actually verify this but it looks to me like they performed the Duck Soup-esque mirror sequence by having Jim have a Kermit on each hand and a secondary puppeteer doing the few arm rod movements, more commonly and less elaborately(?) done in At the Dance.Explains how fluid the movement was and how well the voices synced. EDIT:Aaaand I only just remembered you talked about this in episode 2. Whoops! As for dancers, I got a whole bit about that I might save for the Raquel Welch episode if I remember haha As only a fledglng trekkie, I appreciate basic trivia. :) Looking forward to next episode, Paul Williams is I think my tied favourite season 1 guest along with Mummenschanz. PS: You brought this wall of text on yourselves. :P

    I feel your pain about Dog Eat Dog, they used so many songs that were obscure even back then and are barely documented as having existed today. Supposedly written by Edward Kassner who went on to be a big shot music rights mogul, notably owned Rock Around The Clock. Lubbock Lou and his jug huggers were the new jug band in season 2 onwards but honestly, I prefer Gogolala just for their performance of "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavour On The Bedpost Over Night?" later this season. Guessing it was just slip of the tongue, you mean Mel "Mr. Bugs Bunny" Blanc. Sorry about the wall of text, I have too many Muppet opinions.

    I'm a dude, don't worry about it. Also, totally agree about the b-plots. I feel they ramp up alright throughout season 1, but when Jack Burns (no offense to the man, a great comedian in his own right.) stepped down for Jerry Juhl in season 2, that's really when and why the show clicked.

    You guys should definitely have more views! I listened to your Muppets Take Manhattan podcast last night and now I can't stop! I have an unpopular opinion on Muppets From Space, as I actually really like it! I probably would say it's my third favorite Muppet film, after The Great Muppet Caper and The Muppet Movie. I remember back in the day I had been wanting to watch it for years and I had a cousin who had it on a clamshell VHS tape who let me borrow it. After the movie was over, the tape unraveled and destroyed my VCR, so that was fun lol.

    I was stoked to hear about the full MCU slate prior to its reveal, but once it was announced I couldn't find any enthusiasm. Black Widow is definitely on my radar, as that's a movie I've been wanting for 6 years, and I loved Doctor Strange so I welcome a sequel but aside from those I just don't feel pumped for Phase 4. It would be great if Marvel could go away for awhile so we could miss the MCU and then get excited about their return.

    The Orville has the heart & soul of Trek, with its positive messages and social commentary, ensemble cast of likeable characters, utopian society and episodical space adventures. While STD takes the name of Trek and goes boldly into a story with none of those things. They have familiar Trek names of things.. that's all they have. They don't have likeable characters working together, they are unlikeable and at each others throats. They don't have the optimist message that humanity is much better off in the future, Discovery is pure hell and nobody would fantasize about living aboard her the way we do about the Enterprise (or the Orville). Add to this the fact that the writing is full of nonsensical plotholes, blatant disregard for canon, and absolutely no shits given towards maintaining continuity with the shows b4 or after it in the timeline (ENT &TOS) and you have a real mess in STD. What you get with STD is a re-imagining of what Trek could be, with most of the efforts going into special effects and CGI and very little going into the writing making sense or the characters being developed. No regard for what fans expect or want from a Trek show, they made this show for a new generation of fans who went to the JJ movies. The Orville on the other hand is made by a guy, like me, who grew up watching the TOS and TNG shows and has been missing that kind of show ever since. So, if your like me and Seth and wanted something that is anything like TOS or TNG to watch again, your not going to get it from CBS, the closest your ever going to get to TNG nostalgia porn is The Orville. I thank god for Seth because I needed a new show that felt like classic Trek , The Orville feels like coming home... sure there is a weirdo uncle visiting that keeps making penis jokes... but IT STILL feels like home :) STD feels like somebody blew up your old neighborhood and when you find your family they all hate you now, and they look nothing like you remember them and they act nothing like they used to :(
