Heat and beat is the only way to get them out. Unless you want to buy the $500 tool specially designed for pushing them out.
@hakrihe4 жыл бұрын
Left outer tie rod pinch bolt left pretty easy, with "heat'n beat". This right one, I had to drill through and then it came off. Left upper control arm pinch bolt first started to move around but then snapped off in the bolt head. Right one did not move and also snapped off in the bolt head. I used pretty much heat and beat method, but I did not ever get the bolt heated to red. The knuckle takes the heat. (Did you know that it is not allowed to heat the knuckle? I used Kemper Supergas.) I had to took both knuckles off the car, I cut both side upper control arms off. They were allready destroyed because of the heating (although I tried to cover them with heat shield). Left upper control arm pinch bolt started moving again suddenly when I used washers+nut and impact gun and I got it out. The right upper control arm pinch bolt snapped also inside the knuckle and I tried to drill it out. It went a bit wrong so I bought a used knuckle. I will clean those holes well and put some metal-free pasta/grease to avoid jamming. And next time if those bolts are jamming, I will take the car to shop and maybe let them remove only the bolts. You know, I was only going to put new springs+shocks and it is possible also by taking upper control arms off at the inner bolts...and the best part is that there is nothing wrong with current springs and shocks, I just wan to put different setup to get more ground clearence. The project is still going because I did not touch the parts the hole summer, I started to work again last week and I do not have all the parts yet.

I did not replace the tensioner, I just adjusted it right and fastened it better. The tensioner was renewed a few thousand kilometers before the timing belt started to "rattle". Now I have driven several thousand kilometers and it works fine.
