He was the coach when I went to my first ever game. It was 1987 vs Mississippi State around Halloween Big Al was a ghost and Bully was dressed as Batman. Late in the fourth Mississippi State went ahead and you could feel what was about to happen, it was like no matter what state threw at us we was not going to be beat that night. So Bobby Humphrey takes a hand off and scored the winning touchdown right in front of us. Reporters said that Legion Field was the loudest it had ever been.

Saban never took for granted than any of his players, no matter how long they were with him, understood what was expected of them on and off the field. This is why we would always see him coaching throughout the game until the last second. That’s why he has had the success he’s has had.
