    The main issues with running those holes at that level being that they become too retentive and won't flush you out?

  • @liampurvis2477
    @liampurvis24778 ай бұрын

    when water gets that big its not retention that I worry about, most will spit you out after 1-20 seconds or so, its the unpredictability. Your skirt could implode. Your paddle could get ripped out of your hands. You could split a helmet with that much force. You could get stuffed through a sieve or log that is far above your head at normal flows. You have no control over where you will roll up after getting chundered by any one of them, and the time to roll in between beatings is minimal. You will flush through most of these, probably, but one of those things will chaotic catastrophes will happen eventually.

    @@liampurvis2477 Makes sense, thanks! I raft some class V but haven't reached that level in kayaking yet. The skirt imploding is a good point. Thanks for the thorough reply!

    Awesome video, loved the walk through. Seems like the whole river would be pucker factor. Every rapid looks consequential. Cant imagine running 14 miles of sustained Class V with serious consequences. This place just mystifies me and looks stunning. Great run!

    Yeah I've had that idea in the past. I'm sure it's "possible" but I don't know if there would be enough time to pull it around. I've run the Christopher Columbus line multiple times (mostly intentional) and it always happens very fast. You're only on the shelf for a very short amount of time.

    Great video! If you have paddled one, how would does it compare to a Rewind?

  • @Colin_Hunt
    @Colin_Hunt Жыл бұрын

    I've only paddled the Rewind once and it was on the Grand Canyon a few years ago, so very different style of whitewater. Can't say I remember it well enough to make a thorough comparison. From what I do remember, the feel is a bit different with the stern kick rocker of the Sweet Ride, making it a bit more nimble. On the flip side, a medium rewind is gonna be easier to stern squirt than this kayak. The Sweet Ride is meant to be an aggressive river runner primarily with the ability to stern squirt as a secondary priority. It's not going to be a half slice, stern squirting machine. That would be more the Hot Whip.

  • @Colin_Hunt

    It means that it's easy to stern squirt, pirouette, and splat. As with many half slice kayaks these days, as long as you have downstream momentum, the stern typically doesn't submerge.
