    Amazing!!!, have you tried 1-1,5 mm steel plates? Is a lot more tough to bend or it's about the esthetic? At least in my country the aluminum is 2-3 times more expensive.

  • @alimp_designs
    @alimp_designsАй бұрын

    It’s actually the opposite in China, aluminum is cheaper. This press actually broke after 15 bends, I rebuilt it with steel plates in between of mdf boards. New one is super tough, 1.5mm steel will probably bend easily

    This is so perfect for my situation! I have a tiny workshop/shed space, about 7.5x9ft. I bought the plans a few months ago and hope to build this spring/summer! My main concern is that my space is unheated and vents to the outside, where it's often very humid... Maybe I need to use outdoor rated MDF, or apply a serious sealant coating after assembly. 😅

  • @alimp_designs
    @alimp_designs4 ай бұрын

    If sealing the whole piece is too hard or expensive, just cover the bare edges with two coats of sealer, it will work for pretty humid environments. And in case you notice some swelling, then sealing the whole piece would probably be the only option

    There are subtle nuances to ugliness. In contrast to human ugliness, the ugliness of objects seems to be limited to the sheer fact their existance. This is a fallacy, objects can evoke deep feelings. E.g. that their proportions are displeasing to the eye or that they appear clumsy in relation to their surroundings. However, what bothers me about your lamp is neither the price nor the fact that you built and designed it yourself. That shows a lively soul. As a matter of fact, I find that worthwhile. Back to the ugliness of your product. It does not surpass other contemporary designs in this aspect. So i have note, if it was to create the uglliest lamp, you have failed. Rather, it combines aspects of modern space aesthetics through the choice of colour, material and utilitarianism. Nevertheless, I do detest the combination of the disc and the curved body as a design element. It could be worse. I am very grateful that you did not use wood as a material. That would have made it uttertly detestable. Then it would have been true ugliness and true tastelessness. As it is, it is plainly ugly. Furthermore I have to state, that I find it concerning you choose to intergrate a battery in a lamp. It creates a conundrum in the purpose of this object. For a matter a lamp is supposed to illuminate, its sole meaningful function. But this creation is bound to the capacity of its charge. And the hassle it creates to recharge, for a simple light? Thats an ugly choice. I hope you enjoy your further endeavours. Keep creating further abominations

  • @alimp_designs
    @alimp_designs4 ай бұрын

    Okay, wow, fyi, this comment section was supposed to be everything but beautiful, even though you were speaking about ugliness of the situation and the object itself, you’ve done it gorgeously, congrats, probably no comment will top this one. On a side note 😅 battery stops it’s charging process when you plug it in, meaning you can leave it plugged in without worrying that battery goes bad because of this. Which makes it superior to the weaker cord lamps, which have no choice but to stay connected to the grid. But with this lamp, you can go skiing in the dark for instance 🤷🏼‍♂️ Thank you for many kind words, this is exactly how this product is different from off the shelf ones, this comment is a part of it’s story now))

    From Türkmenistan, where even the camels are critics, comes a lamp so uniquely ugly, it's made the darkness ask for a night light. But in all fairness, beauty is in the eye of the lamp-holder. You have officially made ugly the new dazzling!
