Ok...wow, I'm seriously impressed. Where did you learn to edit? Seriously, this is excellent and I think if you keep making these sorts of videos, or anything that showcases your ability, something will come of it. I have to add two caveats to this: I'm an artist myself, but I'm utterly unpracticed at film. It's always been drawing, painting, prints, and photos for me (and a bit of sculpture when I was younger)--aka still visual stuff. Or writing, which is relevant in a different way. So I could be missing some major flaws, though I don't think I am. I'm probably missing some minor flaws, though I don't know. I just say that because we all make mistakes, even in our best work, and I think that as good as this you, you'll get better. ...hmm. That's not quite right--I *know* you will improve if you keep practicing. You obviously have a talent for editing, but I am guessing you haven't done too much of it (I'm middle aged and a teacher, so it's at least an educated guess... 🙂) Second caveat: you did this very fast. That's impressive in itself. I mean, goddamn... You edited this in the time it takes me to do a fairly fleshed out sketch these days (I'm 15 years out of practice). I do appreciate that you did it so quickly, but again, I'm going to guess that if you took more time and went through a couple of versions, you'd find ways to improve this piece. So this is, to me, a first draft of a story, an underpainting. As good as it is, I thin y there's a lot of potential in this you haven't realized yet. You don't need to, of course, but please take it from me that all those (probably boring to you; they were eye me until I was like 30) things you've probably been taught at some point--outlines, storyboards, editing, critiques, etc.--make a HUGE difference in the end. And in your skill. Okay! On to the video itself. If you had told me yesterday that kill Bill and ending start would go together I probably would have laughed. This song has some seriously sinister undertones, especially if you listen to the lyrics. But meshing it with Tarantino's brilliant over the top violence? I'd have said no way. But you pull it off. You have so many cuts that really match lyrics to events on screen, Not just at the obvious level of matching what the lyrics says to what the image shows, but also emotionally. You managed to pull the sinister elements out of the song and match them to the almost melancholic elements in those scenes, something I'd ignored previously. The pacing also matches very well. Again you find the fastest edge of the song and match it to the slowest pacing of those scenes. The lingering shots on people's faces, or on a detail like the bride opening the Hanzo sword... Seriously, the two together tell a story that I never would have picked from either one individually. Now, there are a few issues that I would raise. Some of the edits felt like they were a bit slow at times or a bit fast. So you've got the rhythm there, but it's just not quite tight enough. I mean in terms of matching the beat of the song to the pace of events, or matching the lyric to the events, or matching the emotion of the song to the emotion of the scene. Additionally, I think there's more here you could do if you had a way to add effects, or cut in just flashes from other movies - not stuff that would obviously show people not in kill Bill but more abstract things. I thought there were a few points where you could have done just a bit more to really bring out what you were I think trying to say. Overall, a very impressive work, and again, done very very fast. Well done. It is entirely different from what night night I had always pictured as being a video to match, but that makes it all the more interesting. Keep this up. I don't know how old you are how experienced, but I would say that, again, you have genuine talent and genuine skill and you just need to keep going. Don't give up, don't get discouraged, cuz it takes a long time to succeed even for the most talented. Bravo.

Interesting take on one of my favorite songs. Atmospheric and strange film, shot with considerable skill, it seems. Keep it up. In fact...hmm. If you are interested in suggestions, give a listen to Metric "Ending Start" from the album Live It Out. Beautiful song. You might be able to do it justice.

@@dreamgirl2.096 oh, and if you like songs in that vein - female vocalist, something haunting or atmospheric about it, something delicate too - I'd recommend Scary Mansion's song Captain; there are a couple of School of seven bells songs that are really good too.
