    Darryl knew even though the wreck wasn't that dramatic as say a roll over, it was the kind of sudden loss of momentum that causes the most trauma.

    I was there that day, when Tony Stewart and Bobby Labonte crashed, I thought that was the big crash, there is always at least 1 big crash on the superspeedways. I left the speedway to beat the traffic and then I heard about Dale Earnhardt, I was shocked, he was the Intimidator. RIP Dale Earnhardt.

    I watched this live, like Most I couldn’t believe what came on a short time later. I’m not a nascar fan but just watched this race every year and didn’t think it was that bad. Many years later watching the impact, it was bad

    it just sucks to think that any other outcome could have very well let us keep dale forever. Had sterling not backed out of the gas, schrader given him more room, dale not been so defensive. Man it just sucks to think that we got the worst of the worst outcomes because nascar was to damn scared to make safety mandates.

    Yeah and i don't understand why was stearling marlin getting death threats because of what happened with dale Sr he didn't do anything wrong and it just a sad day for all NASCAR and Dale Sr fans and for some people that was there last time watching NASCAR after Dale Sr died and saying that it was awesome when dale sr was around but nascar its not good anymore because of the playoffs some people favorite drivers retiring the new cars that we have now and is there anything else that i missed 😊.

    It just does not look that bad every time I look at it, to me it was kinda of at an angle and Schrader's car looks like it slowed him down, I think if he had a full face helmet he would have survived.

  • @AlexandJessica2012
    @AlexandJessica20123 ай бұрын

    That angle is a big part of it. He hit the wall at what experts call the dreaded "1 o'clock angle." This causes the head to whip violently forward and to the side. Without a HANS device, his head kept moving and caused a basilar skull fracture. His head smashed into the steering wheel as well. I think we would have seen the same result with a full face helmet, but a HANS device probably would've produced a different outcome. I see a couple of things in this crash that I haven't seen before or since. The impact was enough to sever the hood pin connections, causing the hood to flap in the wind as he rolled down the hill. Also, the right rear hub breaks off of the car. This tells me that an incredible amount of force traveled through the car and thus through Earnhard's body. In the video in the link below, at the 3:31 mark, we see a different angle of the crash, and from this angle, it looks like his car absolutely rockets into the wall. It's almost like his forward momentum completely stops and the back end of the car wants to lift up just a hair. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZaNrqtevmZuwcaQ.htmlsi=74DIyKx8e47UTNfA

  • @brandonenglund7516

    Poor Kenny, you’ll never see some look more “get me the hell outta here.” Man was breaking down and just trying to keep it together long enough to get away. He answered those questions so well and with so much respect. He knew as soon as he looked in that car. Darrell recognized it as well. I had been watching for a few years before this and remember watching it live. I’ll always remember having this thought of seeing a headline of Dale’s death as they signed off and thinking that was weird. Couple hours later at a friends and after some video games I turned to ESPN and seen Dale Earnhardt’s death all over. It was so eery and still unbelievable, I called my parents and to tell them. We were a racing family, nothing is more haunting to me than seeing another driver stick his head into the cockpit and immediately start waiving for help. It puts a lump in your throat like you couldn’t believe.

    What’s crazy is that seems like a pretty mild crash. We’ve seen plenty harder crashes and they walk away

  • @Corwin1141
    @Corwin11414 ай бұрын

    The car was going around 150 when it smacked the wall with Ken's car hitting it at the same time. If you look closely, you can see the rear passenger tire pop off. The entire wheel assembly pushed forward and snapped like a twig from the impact. If Dale had been wearing a HANS device, it might've save his life, but he would've never raced again, and he probably would've had life changing injuries.

    As a huge fan of Smoke, i thought i lost my favorite driver earlier in the race. After the relief of him being ok, and being happy for my brother sitting next to me (waltrip fan), once all calmed from my brothers victory run into the snow, we all set back down and knew when the ambulance was not rushing, after not seeing him exit the car, that the worst may be upon us. Never a fan of 3, but respected him (most times), and he WAS nascar post petty. We heard prior to the announcement, but didnt want to believe it. Tough day, but it drought about the HANS which has undoubtedly saved many serious injuries and lives

    The speed of the ambulance or more specifically the lack of speeding ambulance tells the whole story. It’s a haunting image

  • @colejames423
    @colejames4233 ай бұрын

    Not really. you won’t normally see ambulances speeding. If the patient is relatively stable, you don’t need to put anyone else in danger by driving like a bat out of hell. And if the patient is not stable/being worked on, throwing them and the paramedics trying to help him them around the cab isn’t a great idea either. In retrospect here, yeah, they knew they were just getting a dead body to the morgue. Real time observers couldn’t have known that.
