  How about d amount of spring tension? do you consider putting shims on d bearing outboard cover to compensate for d axial thrust of shaft?

  I think have something you forget instaled. Before you instal the spacer to the shaf, should be instal first small oring.

  I have never seen a mechanical seal with rings of packing. Very interesting. All the pumps at our facility have either one or the other.

  Hi I do this for a living and done lots of seal in the last 16 years and I was told to use soap it's easy to flush out and also lubes no grease or oil because our pump are for watering food or there for drinking water. Don't no what you use it for but I hope it's not for drinking water or food. Good video on the pump don't no about grease and oil with water though

  Possibly a grey water pump so it wouldn't matter but I'd never think about using what looked like some shc to set my seals.
