Orchideria

I've made it my goal at Orchideria to provide solid research in orchid care and present it as easy-to-follow guides. My objective is to provide a site of free information about orchids and terrariums which could also promote peace.

This educational KZread channel is an online guide full of in-depth tutorials, articles, and explanations that teaches you how to care for your orchids. It goes hand-in-hand with the website www.orchideria.com by Amanda Matthews.

Once your orchid is healthy, learn how to craft it into an exotic floral design or create a unique terrarium. So if you're looking for orchid care tips for beginners, orchid floral designs, orchid potting medium, how to treats orchid pests and problems, then this is the perfect channel for you.

Disclaimer: Everyone has a different way of cultivating orchids, and here I show what works for me. The methods I suggest could not be the best for you and your specific growing conditions. Always research various ideas.

You have described with demonstrated very nicely. While repotting I clean the roots and remove damaged roots and then I clean the roots with diluted potassium permanganate and after that I spray with fungicide. Could you please advise what food and how you apply. I use very diluted N:P:K (19:19:19) and seaweed extract. I am staying in eastern part of India, where the minimum and maximum temperature is 16 to 40 degrees centigrade (60 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit). Do I need to keep them under glow lamp? Thanks in advance 🙏

I have a moth orchid that I have had for about 13 years. It has bloomed every year. I may have fertilized it about 12 years ago. It has numerous aerial roots on about a 4 inch stem. I say it's not the most healthy plant, I'm kind of surprised that's even alive.

When say not to use peroxide on the roots, does this mean STRAIGHT peroxide 3% or do you mean even if its mixed with water? Ive seen to mix 1 part peroxide and 3 parts water in a sprayer and lightly mis the roots at repotting to kill the bacteria. If you say still not to use it, what do you recommend to kill baceria when reptting

Great information. Based on your video I have purchased a hygrometer, am keeping my fans blowing in the room and am looking for a better table for my two orchids (I am a novice). I also recently bought a grow light (LED) because they are in a N. facing window (my only choice in this apt.) to give them a bit more light. This is a real challenge for me. These Phalaenopsis orchids were purchased by friends as a gift for us. The flowers lasted a long time but eventually died and now it is my task, that I have chosen to accept, to bring those flowers back. The plants suffered due to my ignorance but I think they are on the way back, leaves looking good, roots starting to improve.

I moved to SW Florida because my orchid addiction was seated in my mind, and I needed it to blossom into physical reality. I'm a fan of bare root method for vandas. I have a huge pot that I use for root soaking, and it's so easy. I use a mister to fertilize. So far, so good! The roots are thriving, growing quickly, and becoming thick and hearty. When they decide to bloom again, I will be the happiest orchid mom alive!

I need help. My orchid spike after it bloomed slowly has turned yellow hard. My other spike is still green no yellowing. I live in Fl it’s inside near a window that gets sun only morning times. Never had this issue. I am going to start watering more because the high temps. I have never re- potted it. Do I cut this spike? Where do I cut its yellow seems all the way to the stem. Thank you.

I have killed so many Orchids. Friends tell me I kill them with Love, or overwatering them in tight containers. When i saw this video, I had to watch it and learn. Thanks so much for your Calcium video. Your amount of crushed eggshells really has no calculated amount when making your own. Especially if your eggs are fresh or not too. I can only imagine that the lesser fresh eggs are lower in calcium. you most likely will never know just how fresh your eggs really are. Also, the orchid or likely any plant, only takes up what it needs. The rest is just idle and will only use the shells as it needs them. Hence the long period between applying it. Nitrogen and phosphorous is a different story. I also like the idea of boiling the eggshells to extract some of the calcium and other nutrients of the eggshell and using it to "water" my garden plants. I never would have thought of that. So in conclusion for Marky below, do you feel better after belittling the presenter of a video that makes sense to other viewers and not you? Marky, please know that any amount of eggshells is okay, because the orchid is only going to use what it needs and you can't "harm" the plant with eggshell dust. And you won't make too much because you"'ll be tired of crushing them with that mortar and pestle. Chill out !!

What if I didn't know better and replanted all of my Orchids only to find out the media that I repotted them in has gnats? I watched your video on getting rid of the gnats but I just repotted. I didn't use the full repotting that you suggest anyway. My plants are less than a year old and roots are very healthy. I want to restart and do it right, am I going to hurt them more?

I live in upstate NY. I have to move my orchids to a shelf with a grow light, away from windows, in the winter. We have long cold dry winters here. Ive had a hard time with my orchids and mold in media and mold in full water culture. I know i over watered them when they were in media. Ive learned a lot since then. In your opinion/experience, for colder environments like mine, do you think i should keep my orchirs in full water culture and switch to semi wc, have dry days, or go back to medium?
