  The ideal base is outdoors; bugs are the devil. Having a base made out of lots of buildings means your colonists see the sky. Long as the streets are narrow enough that you can roof things up if the world gets toxic. But wide enough to shoot 3-6 guns at one infiltrator. Or, y'know, teleport him into monosword range :]

  The biggest tip i can say is dont make separate dining and rec rooms. Have like one table, then fill the room with rec stuff. Usually a 11 x 11 room is big enough for everything. This gives people eating the chance to socialize with people relaxing, it also makes the dining room more impressive too. Depending on mods, it could get a little cramped but it works extremely well. It also saves space if you have limited building area. Personally i build mountain bases, so i design my start different. I start with a temp room for each colonist, and a temp stockpile in a roofed place until i can get digging enough go move inside

  Followed most of your designs but had to redo everything when my geothermals caught fire and I couldn't put them out or remove roof. Def need extra space around them.

  Great video! I would note that mods can REALLY change your priorities and needs - if you're using Dub's Bad Hygiene, for example, you'll need bathrooms and water sources/sewage outflow. The mods are really what makes this game shine, but it's hard to include everything on a planning video. For me, it helps to write down all the facilities I will eventually need before I start planning - we ALL forget hospitals, hahaha...

  I go the urban sprawl route with minimal rebuilding if possible, most rebuilding is just expanding storage and moving the bedrooms to make it possible

  Worth noting about the map reroll mod is that you can reroll the steam geysers too. I always start with that when planning a base, make sure they're in convenient spots and out of the line of fire.

  I come back to that video every year or so when it is time for some more rimworld. Planning a colony is a boring, but it beats having to re-arrange everything several times.

  This is exactly the kind of channel I needed for this game! The first guide I saw was like “Yeah so what I like to do is butcher the pet right off the bat, that way we get some extra food starting out and the owner of the pet will get a catharsis mood buff once it stops mourning.” I was not built for this game 😭

  Good tips. Never seen the map reroll mod before, but that will surely come in handy. I love playing on maps with at least 2 ancient dangers. Traders vs ancient danger = a fun time to sit back and watch the chaos

  I had a different layout, which did not really help, although it helped me get many different colors, of many of them. Many of them, still had yet to do some colors, and most of those that did do any new colors was really only a mere handful, such as less than five. Some only did 1, and some, I am still looking for some. My lack of luck caused me to try breeding the same color flower with the exact type, hoping for more of them. Not that I expect it to work at all, unless it was purchased from a vendor, and not needing to breed. I already have. Over 100 of each of those flower seeds. Thank goodness that we can now reclaim them and get theirs seeds, since I am wanting many ocean h flower for my various flower gardens at all of my farms. Two of them, I only got 1 seed from. I even moved some to different plots or farms , so Roses at homestead Lilies at Hazy Haven Hyacinths and Zinneas at Fae Acres Trilliums and Tulips at Frozen Farm I think I will try your way, but keeping them divided at different farms. Someone mentioned that a Red Rose and a Blue Hyacinth Will give me a Red/Blue Rose. Or Hyacinth You take the Red/blue Rose Breed it with a blue Hyacinth. After over an in game year, I only have 2 blue roses.or seeds. I may not understand how A red/green rose Breeding with a Blue Hyacinth Can create a Blue Rose But I can try that matchup too. Thank goodness that we can now reclaim all of the seeds, for future flower gardens on all of our farms.

  My bases usually look nice from the player's perspective, but for some reason not remembering to build a kitchen and them having to eat raw food makes my pawns unhappy. Can't win with these people. Always _"I've been sleeping on the floor for 12 days!"_ and _"This hospital is literally just a mined out cave with a sleeping spot in it!"._ Always something to complain about.
