G'day all, I'm Wayne (aka Wombat) - welcome to my channel!
I'm just an ordinary modeller who returned to the hobby a couple of years ago after a very long lay-off.
Here I'll be sharing my model building journey with you. Hopefully I'll improve my skills with every build and we can all get something out of the process!
Don't forget to check out my Facebook and Instagram pages too!

Very interested. In the UK, we do have availability issues with SMS from time to time. I live reasonably close to the Outlaw importer so am considering giving them a go. I do like SMS but find that I need to give them a good shake as the pigments settle out. Once that's sorted and SMS leveller is added, they spray beautifully. Hopefully Outlaw are just as good.
Great live stream gent's!
Some awesome builds on the table Wayne, great video!
Mr. Wombat, I haven't looked for the conclusion part of this video, to find out if everything panned out. Despite the uncertainty, I think your booth is exactly what I need. Because I have been saving boxes for this purpose, I was hoping to see one made from cardboard. Now I just need to figure out the filter and fan.
I haven't posted a follow up but will do so soon.
I made one using 3/16 foam board worked awesome but now I need a bigger fan 🙄✌🏼
Amazing looking planes! Oh, well, the armor is just sweet. Beautiful cars. and the dioramas are awesome.
Hi BG, numbers of models entered seemed to be down on the last time I attended in 2022 but the standard of those entered was definitely up there.
Great work mate
I like Wombats! Good Video. Thank you for using Milimeters! You can also do this with some old PC Fans :-) I also recommend installing a wardrobe led bar for lighting.
I did consider PC fans initially as I had a few lying around.
I'm not sure computer fans are going to provide enough flow. I could be wrong though. There was that one time.

Great Show guys, Good topics.. I'm a big bare metal foil guy, make my own from time to time works almost better than the store bought, have a how to vid on it.. Still need to try Outlaw paints..
Great live stream guys.. Congrats Jason on the Outlaw Paint endeavors! I have not yet tried the best paint in the world yet, looking forward to it one day..
I would be very interested in you doing a comparison on the two brands.
Hi Geoffrey - there will be a head-to-head coming.
Yes, very interested in your Primer comparison vid! 💯
Great Paints
New subscriber to your channel
Welcome aboard!
Cool stream with a cool team.
I never knew they existed.. I will look into them, thank you ...and new subscriber !!
Where abouts in the world are you located? There will be distributors in UK and US soon if you are outside of Aus.
Did you do the follow up video on the operation of the booth?
Haha - not yet. Have plans to try and get something filmed on it soon though.
It was really cool.
Noice mate
Would be very interested. I've had some experience with the SMS range and it didn't really grab me. Started thinning it a bit more with self leveling thinner and that really changed my experience with it. I've only got the two pack clear from Outlaw and that is brilliant. I've been wondering for a while what their mainstream paint range was like. Hope you end up doing the video. Dan
Hi Dan, there has been a bit of interest for me to do the head-to-head. Your comments re the SMS are interesting given that it is marketed as "ready-to-spray" straight from the bottle (as is the Outlaw). I'll put both to the test as per manufacturers recommendations and then see how thinning changes the experience and the finish. I've got some time off after Easter so will try and film it then.
looks like a good idea Wombat, everybody reviews paint, but I don't think I've seen anyone review primers. looking forward to it
I thought it would be a good idea to see how they all work relative to each other.
I look forward to the reviews.
I'll have to give it a go!
Cool 🖌
Really cool. 👍
Thanks @goforit - have been building the collection for a while and am really looking forward to using most of them in planned projects.
Looking good mate 👌
Thanks 👍
Coool
I need to revisit this build and film an update!
Brilliant mate Great kits for 2024 looking forward to seeing your amazing work again this yr
Cheers - thanks Jason.
nice haul Wombat
Cheers Paul. Going to take a bit of work to convert the street versions to race versions!
Isnt using inches easier than millemeters
We're metric here in Oz!
@@wombat_models I no Sorry about that, just was curious cause to me it seems easier then again Im used to doing it that way
@@John.349 All good. I'm the same in that I don't really know any other way as we have been metricised my whole life. Just makes it interesting when fans are still rated in CFM and you need to work out an equivalence. My science background also tells me that using a base 10 system is much more sensible than fractions of inches, inches and feet. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍😀👍
looks great Wombat
Thanks Paul.
Great looking box!
Thanks, now just have to make sure it works!!
My project is to have 1 aircraft each of every carrier air wing operating off Essex class carriers in the Vietname war. The modified 27C versions are just my favorite carriers. The Sundowners feature on a lot of them as they basically served on every 27 Charlie except Hancock and Bon Homme Richard. Because decals are hard to come by for many of the squadrons involved I've taken to using Photoshop to make my own. I now have decals for the squadrons of airwings 10 off Intrepid, 1967, which had a Sundowners detachment on it, airwing 16 from Ticonderoga 1969, Sundowners present, airwing 16 from Oriskany 1966-67, Sundowners present and airwing 8, Shangri La 1970, the final deployment of the Sundowners with the F8 Crusader. Also made decals for airwing 21 Hancock 1975, airwing 5 Bon Homme Richard 1970 and airwing 19 Oriskany 1976. I print them via laserjet printer at work on A4 decal sheets. The only downside is that you cannot print the color white. If you want some, let me know.
Wow - big project. How many aircraft would that be in total? Would love to see what you have for the Sundowners decals - I have been thinking about creating my own using Photoshop &/or Inkscape and printing them myself where I can't find kit/aftermarket decals. Also probably have to do the same for my USS Carl Vinson project (CVW-15, '86/87 Westpac/Indian Ocean cruise).
nice Haul Wombat, can vouch for the Red Ickystyky, works great, all can say about Outlaw Paints is Fantastic, even makes me look like a good painter
Haha - it's been a while since I've completed a paint job but I think I need all the help I can get with getting a good finish!
Nice gear there mate 😁👍
Can't wait to do some test sprays with the Outlaw Paints - just got to sort out spray booth (which might be my next video)!
hi wombat, just building mine. I have already done the props and rear sprocket. will this hinder my build, cheers ocean
Just be careful with them when handling the model during additional construction stages. They would be pretty easy to knock and break which is why I've left mine for now. If you find them getting in the way, you could always get some foam or cardboard and try and put a temporary guard around/over them and hold it with tape so you can remove it easily when you need to. Would love to see some images when you finish the build. Thanks for watching!
The Revell Germany and Matchbox F9F-5 are the same kit and will get you the late model Panther. It's not bad. Hasegawa's kit is a F9F-2, which you already have. Monogram did a 1/72 F8F-2 Bearcat. It's old but not too bad for 1/72. I would toss the Hobby Boss Hellcat and get Eduard or Academy if you can find them.
Thanks for the info Chris. I will keep an eye out for the Eduard &/or Academy Hellcats. Have got Model Expo 2023 coming up in a few months and will see whether I can find any of my "missing" kits at the Swap & Sell. Thanks for watching!
Great Tools. Thank you for sharing!
Thankyou.
Quite a collection there 🤣. Thanks for your support 🤗
Thanks Monique, it's amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over the years! Happy to support the IckySticky brand - keep up the good work and new products!
thanks for sharing Wayne
👍
Excellent video there mate, Reminds me to get another Icky Sticky order in. I would make a video but it would be the same as yours ... Cheers 😁👍
Thanks Pete. Can't beat IckySticky!
Great tour of your tools .
Thanks Paul.
Looks great. PE looks awesome🤩
Thankyou. 👍😁👍
Hey Wombat, great work so far. Have you looked at the holographic nail foil for the vision blocks? Also don't know if you are a big fan but Mig has some anti-slip paste.
Hi. Hadn't seen/thought of the nailfoil but will have a look. I've never used any of the Mig products but I have seen the anti-slip paste - it's something I might try out!
Great progress Wombat fantastic idea with the colored lenses and nice supplies from ickysticky👍👍
Thanks 👍
Great update Wombat ,I must be a bit more organised like yourself, Love your attention to detail even in the instructions. Stay safe and happy modelling.
Thanks Paul. The "organisation" comes from my scientific and work background. Just don't know any other way to do it! 😁
Very interesting tools there as well. Looking forward to see some other reviews as well dear friend.
Thanks, keep an eye out as there will definitely be more to come!
