Something Incredible

Something Incredible

Carl Sagan (probably) once said: "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known". Join us and discover something incredible about our world.

I am a scientist, a writer, and a creator with a passion for discovering the stories behind our world.
I got my degree in Earth Sciences in 2008, and followed up with a PhD in Palaeontology and Astrobiology, and a short spell at NASA. But my great love is for sharing knowledge, and I now work full time making fascinating factual content for broadcast TV and digital platforms, including this channel!

This is such horrible misinformation. It’s so much worse after you give birth because of the hormone drop and the lack of sleep please do more research before putting ignorant stuff like this on the Internet I’m on pregnancy number two and it’s definitely a thing during pregnancy and after for up to two years after also

The fact that mitrochodria still have their primordial DNA saved till now makes me wonder how could they have protected it from oxidation degeneration. Do they not have the DNA of the host cell? Or is their only some part of their ancient survives and rest have been replaced by the long evolution of the hosts. Like thr mitochondria of a closely related ape species would surely have a little different DNA than ours. Bur seill share some common ancient DNA that mitochondrias originally had when they lived alone as clones.

Do you write and your husband narrates the videos. Wbat a perfect combination. I wish i had a life liek this. In our tiny fraction of time experiencing existence in this manner must be so satisfying. Thank you for being a pivotal influence in my life. I look forward to content from such rare and likable humans in my life. A selfless description of the functioning of the universe as nothing else matters.

What can I say. Just followed your channel after knowing you're the writer of history of the Earth. The way those scripts are written transfers me to another world everytime I watch a Video. It's almost a religious experience for me. Since I don't believe in any of the conventional make beliefs and science is the only weird religion that we all share. Immersion is at peak when it's written all that nicely. I get a moment of solace in my life of a corporate automaton.

You're doing a great job, Leila. Part of being a parent is learning every day, through failure and success. It sounds like you've got a very level head regarding other people's opinions, and this will serve you well. Hang in there and love that Science Baby 😊

Tbh this was why I was so turned off from becoming a mom for 10 years. I wanted to be childfree partly to avoid all this crap that goes on in the parenting circles.

Wow. From what I was reading the recommendations actually decreased from 6 months to 4 months. But otherwise this is very validating to me as a mom of 3. My younger 2 didn't show signs till around 5 months, but my oldest was ready before I was. We were eating out when he was about 2½ months old and he was on my lap when before I knew what happened his hand was in my refried beans! I had the toughest time holding him off food till 4 months old, but he was a very strong baby, so according to this I needn't have waited. He was sitting with minimal support then and his tough reflex had gone by 3 months. He was also holding his head up a few seconds at the hospital, and all my kids were walking around 9 months, soooo my kids have never been standard 🤷🏻‍♀️

1:38 Pretty sure you meant to say 7 PM to 7 AM, but I understand your point. I do think starting from 6 months of age it is safe to start sleep training. I did it and it worked wonderfully well with my kids. That said, I respect that it's not for everyone.

We don't even understand adult sleep, and adults can talk to us about sleep effects and such. I can see hoping for babies sleeping all through the night being more for the parents' sake than the infants.

Ugh, there have to be thousands and thousands of hours of babies from all of their proud parents. How hard is it to just analyze them with AI these days? You want to eliminate confirmation bias, use AI, not humans.

  • @MicaiahBaron

Funny story; generative content is based on human-created data, since generative content programs cannot make anything original. Thus, if parents think the cries are real the generative content generators stealing from them will agree.
