  just discovered your channel because im korean and i'll be heading to santiago in about a month. the whole part about the old korean man scolding you for not knowing korean is so relatable which is why i've been learning pretty diligently for the last few years. did you end up getting any better?   I appreciate it! I hope you have a safe trip to Santiago, and you've got to visit the Korea town there. It was one of the coolest blends of cultures. It is tough being second generation and not being able to speak, but I did spend some time in Korea, which I posted a bit about during my travels. Since then, my Korean did actually improve, and I'm working to become fluent in a few years!

  Hey Nolan! Happy New Year! I am glad that you made this video. I didn't think about using a travel credit card to accumulate mile points. I hope to travel as long as you did someday. Are there any other tips or things to keep in mind when planning a trip for that long? Especially regarding finances? Also, I feel like you could be a consultant given how you organized and mapped out all the finances with the spreadsheet.

  Hey! Thank you for commenting and watching the video. Maybe, I'll consider being a consultant or using KZread Memberships to create some way for people to ask for advice in a more personal manner 😂 Regarding your questions, I think the way I saved a lot of money while traveling and planning for an extended plan like this was to: 1. Open a travel credit card and maximize how you spend the points; in order to reduce airfare 2. Extend your stays in cities (Airbnb and some hotels/hostels will give you discounted rates for extended stays); in order to reduce housing costs 3. Meet locals who give you advice on the local eats, since, sometimes, those places aren't the most well known on Google, and this could mean they are more affordable; in order to reduce food spending while also getting the inside scoop 👌 These were the main ways I reduced cost. Hopefully, this helps!

  Why don't you know Korean? Where you born and raised in USA? I'm Chilean and live in the UK, but my little sister moved over with us when she was a child, she hardly speaks much Spanish, however she can hold a conversation very well because as a family we always talk to her in Spanish at home so that she would never forget. Did your family not speak Korean at home? Or perhaps you are second or third generation descendant of immigrants?

  Hey! Thanks for the comment! My family doesn’t speak Korean at home. My family is 2nd generation immigrants, so the language is sort of dying off within my family. To answer your questions, it’s both cases 😅 I want to learn, so I’m spending time trying to learn the language. I don’t want it to be forgotten! I hope the UK is treating you and your family well!

  Ahh there's more stuff one the upper levels of Hayashi Department Store! There's even a Japanese shrine. In Tainan our average wage would be lower than your number. But the living cost is cheaper than Taipei. Lastly I thought it was very bold of you to venture into the northern wetlands alone on foot! Usually people rent cars for that. Great quality video, hope you rack up good views with it!

  I should’ve gone farther up the department store! In regards to the average wage in Tainan, I bet if I tried the same thing in Taipei, I would be spending a lot more. If I rented a car, the price would’ve been a lot higher too 😂 I thought it was fun to walk around Tainan though. Thank you for the nice comment ✌️
