    It looks like several of the mornings were quite foggy. Or was that due to a fire? How do you keep your canoe next to you when you are on rocks? I do not see any lines. Looking forward to seeing your next video. And I really enjoy listening to your tips, tricks and safety information.

    @@terrygrabosch4882 no fires. Just fog this trip. Had a lot of hail I'll post in my next video. I usually do have a green paranoid wrapped around my feet. Because YES, if that canoe had ever gotten away from me, with where I was, that could be the end. I would have to swim to shore fighting hypothermia and follow the bank till I find my canoe through thick cover. Then paddle back to camp.

When we go to the boundary waters it sometimes feels like roughing it, but we bring in great food and haul in a lot of unnecessary comfort items, you're way more hardcore than us! Those are so big. Can you usually only catch those on the less traveled lakes? I was going to go to Knife Lake and stay there during my trip, but would a place a little farther east have fish like this while Knife doesn’t?

  • @MichealGrabosch
    @MichealGraboschАй бұрын

    I believe every large lake has fish this big. The only thing is most the fish like these are caught in boats on big lakes because it takes a lot of Trolling time/distance to get one. I go to the extreme, Trolling in a canoe until my arms give out daily. I work out year round to have the endurance just for this. Also, you have to target the xl ones by using lures only they would bite on. Which means 7 hrs a day paddling/Trolling, you may only get 1 or none. While using a normal lure, you would catch 15 nice ones and a lot of 3-4 lbs ones

  • @MichealGrabosch
    @MichealGraboschАй бұрын

    Knife lake would 100% have 50+ northerns in it. And plenty of them. Just no one take the amount of time/effort it takes to target them

    I use a gopro 10, I believe. I use a lens on it that costs another $100 called the max lens. It captures a lot more, but the lens can easily get scratched. So make sure it's covered when not in use. I rigged the camera up on a pole. I will show how on my next trip in 1 month at the end of the video which I'll make of it. It involves putting a large bolt reverse through the plug in the back of the canoe, sinking a pole with a fitting on top of it, and then bracing it in all directions with duct tape to the canoe. So I wouldn't advise it unless you're using your own canoe.

    I think the trail is just a general wilderness trail. Moose use multiple paths too. There are so many creatures out there that use the same trails.

  • @MichealGrabosch
    @MichealGrabosch3 ай бұрын

    I agree animals like to follow each other's paths. But with the wolf track near there and those paths branching out to only come back together multiple times in grass. I would like to think it was a pack hunting around that lake. The path was made that year, so I would exclude Moose just because the trees that had fallen overhead years before, a moose would not fit. Also, stumps on the ground were not smashed up.

  • @steveklick

    @@MichealGrabosch I live at the end of the gunflint trail where it was all burned down. I know and see many trails just like that with 3, 4, and 5, different routes. All the animals are using them and taking whatever way they feel like. I don't know the trees your talking about or what they looked like but the area I live is nothing but old fallen burned and dead trees everywhere and the moose get through all of that. I used to think it was impossible for moose to roam around this area because of all the dead fall but they make it through. They have their ways.

    They hold very still. I was told by some grouse hunters that the further in bwca you go, the less they are scared of humans. Their main predator is wolves. So they are used to just flying up to a low branch and being 100 ok. Same tactics do not work well vs my bow;)

    Thank you very much. Big northerns take a lot of practice, landing them safe solo in a canoe for sure. Top priority is my safety and then theirs. I always wear them down for a good 20 min before trying to handle them. Then you have to be very decisive when you go to grab them. Any hesitation can lead to a hook in your hand. And holding onto them has to get a death grip. You don't want them flopping on you, throwing the hook into ya, or smacking you out of your canoe.

My next, however, the first day I have to push far into the beginning of pma and then 2 more days bushwacking into a lake. So that wouldn't be ideal as I don't like the extra chances of something happening in pma. I only allow people to tag along when on a regular route. Stay in contact and my grouse hunt trip in late Sept, I would be happy to possibly have you tag along for a few days. I'd have to get to know you a little bit first. I guided a guy who lost his mind one time 3 days in and pulled out a knife on me saying he needed to get back to civilization asap... that trip sucked

    I had a primitive permit that allows me to travel to remote and camp/set up a fire pit wherever you seem to be a good place for it

    I've heard about the primitive area permits, but I didn't realize that also allowed one to make an open fire. Thanks!
