For me Fumio Sasaki is foundation for minimalism, not Marie Kondo (although I think Kondo's book is very helpful). For me the word "excavation" is more useful than "decluttering" because it is really about finding your life hidden in/under your stuff.
Yeah I also love his book very very much 👍 read it 3 times or so 😅 what I enjoyed about Marie was her organizing tips ☺️
@@Isabel_K I am told Marie's book says "spark joy or find useful" which I think is important.
Hey Isabel, really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with Best Quality Editing in your videos better than your Editor with good pricing and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will help your videos to reach to a wider audience ? Pls let me know what do you think ?

Working full time until the age of 70 years sounds TERRIBLE ! Here in the U.S., I will need to work until age 67 to get the full Social Security benefit ( our country's version of government pension.) We also do not get government health care until age 65, so until that age I have to get health insurance through my job or pay for it on my own ( very expensive.) There is no way I want to work that long full time. So I follow the FIRE movement and have been saving and investing aggressively for the last 20 years. I will be able to retire soon due to my financial habits. Or at least I will be able to switch to part-time work. I invest in mutual funds, bonds, securities. Real estate seems like too much work. I have one property that I own - it is the house I live in. One house is more than enough work for me!
Sounds like a good Plan 👍 i will also start investing now 👍 Real Estate … also thought about buying a 2nd one but I also dont want to Deal With it + Taxes in Germany are very high 🙈 and in Germany also retirement at Age 67 at the Moment but will raise 🙈
Decluttering gives me a mission and a purpose. Once it is done, I feel sad due to the loss of purpose. The answer is to fill the void with something healthy, as you said. We decluttered a room in our house that had extra furniture that we did not need. We cleared it all out, sold or donated the furniture, and put our fitness equipment in the room. Now it is a nice little home gym that my husband and I can use together to exercise. We exercise more now that we have a dedicated space to do it.
Thank you for Sharing your experience that Sounds amazing and it is wonderful how we improve our lives through minimalism 🤗
I enjoyed this. One thing you may not know the expression "pain in the ass" is not a polite term and I was always surprised to hear you say it. I think people say something is a "pain" instead. Other than that I really enjoyed your video and I'm just mentioning this as a tip you might not have known.
Thank you, also for saying it so kindly🙏 Yes I did not mean to be impolite or offend anyone 🙏
@@Isabel_K I'm glad you weren't insulted by my comment. It is just a tip for you. It isn't the end of the world to use that term. I don't think it is necessarily an impolite or offensive phrase, it is more just surprising. That's why I think the term got shortened just down to something being a "pain."
Beautiful home
Thank you 😊🙏
I sometimes fantasize that everything in my rooms is completely empty….would I feel content? No. Then what?
Me, too, I have to admit 🤣 sometimes I think I won‘t stop until I am there… and yes, maybe to find out - that isn‘t it. Maybe This is Just a process, a search (to freedom?) and we are learning as we go… I think it has a meaning to it anyway! ☺️
Love this comment by the way 🙏
Great video topic. Wether you’re a shopaholic or decluttering like a mad woman…. Dopamine gets released.
I love this video ❤ thanx
Thank you 😊
I wonder if decluttering gives a positive feeling, and then you're left with that boredom feeling, so you declutter some more, but you're wondering how much more you can declutter to keep feeling good again and again. I've heard that a good way to avoid depression is to find a way to help someone else with some kind of volunteering. What do you think?
Yeah that is kinda What it feels like sometimes. Decluttering makes me extremely happy but I think the hard Part in life is to not always Distract yourself… that Sounds like a good Plan but I think there are Many More and different ways to „heal“ Depression. We probably all have to find out for ourselves What that is for us / the individual.
@@Isabel_K Yes, you're right. It would be different for each person. A journey to find contentment in something meant just for you. ♥
So sad to know that you're going to throw away those sandals! Do you still have them? The white ones!
Hi ☺️ I dont throw them away i still wear them some Time until They are fully worn out 👍
Yes, questioning and reflecting are super important to lighten your load and focus on what is important.🎉
If you are someone who likes clothes and shoes (I do too) then just enjoy them. If it gives your life a bit of colour and pleasure don’t shut that down.
Thank you ☺️ we are probably all sometimes a bit strict with ourselves and wouldn‘t have to 😅
@@Isabel_KI think we are imposing this strange rule that has become fashionable, but who says it’s right for everyone? If we love pretty things, or books or artwork or plants, then why not enjoy them? One thing is being a hoarder such as we see on tv, but if you are enjoying things within a healthy boundary then I say carry on doing so.
Great body tbh.
So glad KZread recommended you! Nice to see someone pushing through past the easy initial declutter and move into deep/aggressive decluttering. 🩷
Thank you 😊Glad to have you here 🙏
❤
No shade to you personally... I'm just continuing to wonder at how far my generation will go to make sure everyone around us understands we are empty inside.
Because of the consumerism? 🤔
@@Isabel_K I feel like that's just the cover tbh.
@@EverintheRising Odd, I feel better because of minimalism. Not worse.
I love how you are minimal but your home still feels warm and cozy. ❤
Thank you 😊
Thanks for sharing your experience with honesty. Do you know Shawna Ripari's channel? She talks about how her no buy didn't change her habits, so that's why she prefers a low buy approach. This is what I'm trying. Could it work for you? I'd like to stop online shopping specifically, because it wastes so much time in the way you described of looking, making wishlists...
Thank you for your comment and Suggestion ☺️ did not know her but I will have a Look 👍 I also want to stop online Shopping but Ive noticed in the past that i make bad decisions in the Store 🙈🙈 so its kinda difficult 😩 thinking about Smartphone detox to stop searching 🙈 and yes I am also considering a low buy ☺️
i love this authenticity ❤
Thank you ☺️🙏
You have done amazingly! I am just about to start a low buy 'rule of 5' challange which basically means that I can only buy 5 new items of clothing/accessories shoes this year unless something that I use regularly breaks. feeling excited but a bit daunted. I can not imagine trying a full on no buy!
Thank you 🥰 Wow that is also quite of a Challenge 🤭 but it is good that you kept yourself some opportunity to buy a few things - a year Can be so Long. Keep it up and remember your why 👍
@@Isabel_K thanks 🙏
Just found your channel! I’m watching this now to prepare for 2024. I’m looking forward to seeing how 2023 went for you! 😊
Hi welcome here 🤗 curious What you will say 🤣🙈
Do you feel like when the year ends you will start shopping a lot more to make up for the things you didn’t buy or do you think this experience will make you not want to buy as much once you are allowed to buy again?
Hmmm yeah could be cause the urge to buy is huge and also i Just sometimes want something New To wear 🤣 but honestly even if I buy some things - it still Would be sooo much less than I usually buy in a year 😅👍
Hi sweetie ❤
I shop to fill a void. so I started asking myself " is this a need or a want?" when that's determined "why do I want/need it?" "what value will it bring into my life?" if its a want. I ask my self " what am I trying to fill in life and what is something I can do instead?" I also gave myself slack ( something thats hard for me to do.) I wasn't able to complete my no buy year this year. but in 2024 Im determined to do a no buy/low buy year. My no buys are clothes makeup home decor my low buys are fast food beauty ( nails salon and hair salon) and I have a use it until its all gone buys shampoo/condtioner toothpaste. things that I need buy won't buy until im all out.
Hi Carla Thank you for Sharing your experience I think it is good to ask These questions I Should try that, too 🤔 and maybe we Can do something together in 2024, planning something 🤭👍
you sound like a German speaking very poor English 😂😂
I have the same issues with wishlists. I have deleted and recreated them a couple of times. I have removed shopping apps only to access them in the internet browser instead. I just take it one day at a time. My short term goal is always one month, and one year is the long term goal. You are doing great, thank you for sharing your struggles! We are in this together ✨🤍
I actually do a low buy at any time. That means I just don't buy stuff. I just don't. What I mean by that is that not buing random stuff is my default. I only buy thing I need. Of course it might be difficult where to draw this line. For example, if I'm in the drugstore I only buy the stuff on my list which is usually things that I need to replace. I just don't buy anything I like but don't need (e.g. new nail polish, makeup... ). That goes for any random stuff like home decor, stationery, food, media (books, movies) etc. I find this very liberating. My only weak spot is clothing. But I have finally decided to cut down my budget this year and so far I succeeded. I do the same principle here. I have a budget and a wishlist and I strictly only buy what is on there. When I bought everything for the upcoming season, I'm done. I don't go shopping or browsing online without a purpose. I just don't. I don't want to think about buying all the time. Weirdly enough, it has made me more satisfied with what I have. But it is a journey, it took me years to get there and still work in progress.
Hi and Thank you for Sharing 🤗 that Sounds Great and very similar to me; clothes are also my only weak spot 🤣🤣 im doing also so much better but somehow i can‘t stop searching 😩
@@Isabel_K What has helped me tremendously is the concept of the 10 item wardrobe (Jennifer L. Scott). I don't follow this religiously. But the insight that 10 outfits I like per season is sufficient for me, has changed the way I see my wardrobe. Now I only "need" new clothing if I have below 10 (I count tops, dresses and jumpsuits as "outfit", because this is what you change regularly, while you can wear skirts or pants with different tops) or if I need or (tbh) want something particular of a specific category, e.g. replace worn out underwear or wanting to try a new style of something (this year I bought for example a certain type of handbag). Of course, the latter is not something I actually need but here my budget comes in handy to limit my spending.
Sounds very interesting 👍 i will Look into that! I also saw something like that before and was thrilled but i need to downsize more First 😅 and we do have 4 seasons ☺️
@@Isabel_K I'm also from Germany, so I have four 10 item wardrobes (so to speak). 🙂
@melligolightly5114 oh okay then it is possible for me too 🤣👍
Hi new subscriber😊 want to start now. For 2024. But i doubt so much than i will succeed. Thank you
Hi So happy to hear and 🙏 for subscribing 🤗 remember why you are Doing this and if you make a mistake - so What then Just Start all over Again.. we‘ve got this 💪
I love that blue decor!❤
Unfortunately it is already gone 🥹 otherwise you could have get it
When you started talking about getting rid of your childhood photographs I was shocked! But then when you said you were going to digitize them I began to understand. Personally, I am not ready and may never be ready to get rid of photo albums as they are very much worth the mental and physical space they occupy, for me. But since you are at the point where you don't feel that emotional attachment and are happy to keep those memories in your mind (and a computer file) rather than a book it must feel good to be able to get rid of the clutter!
Thank you for your honest comment and sharing your experience 🤗 it feels indeed good (or at least Not Bad🤣) and i am very happy to have less and less clutter 👍
great
Love you ❤ Thank You 😀
In the U.S., I've generally only felt the need need to keep paper docs for: 2 years past tax documents (but they're usually printable on demand online from employer/bank), insurance cards/info (same i.e. printable), government ID's [e.g. driver's license, passport, birth certificate, social security card], lease/property contracts, and unread mail. All could be organized in a normal, small, thin school folder if they weren't all different sized teeny cards. 😅
Sounds amazing ☺️ in Germany we have a Long way to go 🤣 some paper documents (which is Not that less) we have to keep several decades 🙈
Declutter without preaching😂
No white
Not interesting, money must be spend on beauty, art
Mich nerven auch die Ordner voll Papier. 🙄
@melligolightly5114 Wahnsinn oder 🤣🤣🤣 irgendwie ist die ganze Rechtslage noch nicht ganz klar finde ich (was muss im Original was nicht…)
I think it is very true that once you start decluttering you start asking what sparks joy in other aspects of your life and what things are necessary going forward. ❤
Def true. “Me” was buried under all that stuff. It seems like if we can’t prioritize what we love the most, then it’s more like a big blob or blurry or vague. I think it’s like the start of finding your inner resolve and kind of making our personal stand about what is important to us and what isn’t. And then that helps further clarify to ourselves who we really are. It helped me to more clearly see my own true preferences, while in the past I was pretty clueless about such things. And it’s just a great first step toward real authenticity. There’s really nothing better in life than being your true self and being very comfortable in that state.
Love your comment ❤️ you found better words Than I did 😜 so beautiful and True 👍
@@Isabel_K Aw shucks. Thank you. ☺️
I feel it like "accepting who you are your sweetness and goodness is not your weakness, it is your strength"Now do it !
I say, use whatever tools are at your disposal to make your life better. Not all of us are going to use the same tools in the same way for the same reasons.
Yes, i have ocd and am a type A high achiever personality. Having less material items and a decluttered space helps me feel calm and focused. The items that are left in my physical space are very specific to what I need and value in my life and are beautiful as well which levels up my daily experience. You should read "lessons learned from madam chic". It's a book about a college student who goes over to Europe to take French for a semester and learns about how the Europeans value less items and their closets are a lot smaller. It caused the exchange student to adopt a 10-item capsule wardrobe which essentially changed her life and carried over into other areas.
I agree! It really helps my mental health
I did the food thing, too! I need to figure out free rewards, maybe library rentals?
Yeah its kinda mean how our mind always finds a new drug 🤣 i also want to go to a Library 👌 good idea!
