Felt textile Artist
Fflwff is mostly about wool, wool processing and wet felting but will share adjunct interests such as natural dyeing and eco-printing that can be used on other fabrics.
I have a particular passion for promoting Welsh breed wool and enabling people of all ability and disability to felt!

I really appreciated this video. Is there a part 2? I haven't been able to find it.
There will be very soon! As I hadn't actually tested the theory on refining, I thought I better had. Especially having discredited an extracting theory. The results were disappointing! So I have challenged myself to find a way of using accessible substances and equipment to get good results in practice. I have been posting some of my experiments on my Fflwff facebook page. I am getting close!
Thank you - I found this to be very helpful and informative, and it's great to know that other people have problems with their cats as well! I am really looking forward to hearing more about your fibre tumbler - I previously also used an old spin dryer, but having moved to North Wales last year, that was one thing that didn't come with us, as it was really old and hardly worked!
Thank you! And welcome to North Wales! I am in North Anglesey. I bought my spin dryer from facebook marketplace Mine is also on it's way out now, but I think I paid £15 for it, so it has more than earned its keep! The fibre tumbler video shouldn't take long to record or edit, so it won't be a long wait!
Thank you for this in-depth video! I’ve never heard of anyone else mention more than one method of scouring before. This was very educational 💗🙏🏽🧶
Thank you! I'm delighted that you found it valuable!
Thank you for video, I do like the way you explain the reasons for why you do what. As a newbie I am trying to work my way through several fleeces. I made the first wash the hottest as limited for hot water then just warm water for rinses and I have to say all I have is a salad spinner it takes ages. I dry them on netting in poly tunnel. So I’m guessing the first hot wash is the most important ?
Thank you and yes, the first Hot wash is the most important for removing dirt with the lanolin. You can do a cold soak first if you like. The aim of which is for the worse of the dirt to fall off before starting the lanolin melt method.
Thankyou 🙂. I was wondering what kind of detergent you use?
In my most recent batch, I used grated olive oil soap bar, but usually use unicorn powerscour or Austration fibre scour for special fleeces and dish washing up detergent for everything else. Dawn, fairy or an eco dish washing detergent.
You are doing well Karen your videos are great
@ednaleys8555 Thank you Edna! Your support is very much appreciated!
Katrin Sonnemann I see you as as passionate about wool as I. I do make the point that the lanolin is secreted from the sabacious glands much like we secrete oils from our sebaceous but that lanolin is a wax. At that point it is pure but then gets contaminated with all the other stuff. The purpose of the videos is to encourage people to engage with wool and enable them to extract and refine the lanolin from all the other stuff. Fingers crossed, after today I will have a product that at least appears to be lanolin. I will then contact the wool testing authority Europe Ltd to see if its financially feasible to get it tested. They happen to be just 23 miles from my home.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video I'll be back for part two.
You are more than welcome! Jac's fleece went into the pot today and started a suint fermentation scour that will take at least a week. I will be experimenting with refining methods to ensure I can get adequate and reliable results to share
So interesting, I need to watch this again as you have given such useful information. Thank you for sharing
Thank you! So glad that you found it helpful!
That was so interesting, thank you! When I spin I only wash the fleece lightly, as I love the feel of the lanolin when I spin. I never thought about trying to extract the lanolin - so I'm really looking forward to your next episode.
Thank you! I plan on comparing two method of refining the raw lanolin. But for one I will need to suint scour the fleece first, which will take at least a week. Hopefully it will be worth the wait!
Really interesting! Look forward to watching part two 😊
Thank you! I will be setting a suint scour up in the morning. I am wondering whether the raw lanolin from suint scoured fleece would require further refinement? I will be comparing it to a refining method. The suint scour will take at least a week. Hoping it will be worth the wait.
Another informative podcast, thank you. I love your sheep!!
Thank you! Delighted you found it it informative! I love our sheep too! Iori isn't actually lamb anymore but a strapping Ram! I just couldn't resist including the video where he'd literally bitten off more than he could chew! He just needs to grow some wool back after shearing before I post a handsome Iori pic!
Really interesting, thank you. I'll share it if I may? Amble Pin Cushion
Thank you! Just looked Amble Pin Cushion. Your shop looks wonderful! Yes, please do share!
Bell option didn’t come up?
I am not familiar with the Bell option but intrigued to know more! I can't find anything on in with a Google search. Please could you describe the bell option or direct me to where I can find more info!
I subscribed with no problem - under the video when I hit "subscribe" I got the choice of 4 options, so hit the top option which is "all"
Haha, so sorry! Of course, i did ask to click the bell to get notified! I thought the bell option was a skirting method that I hadn't heard of! I was racking my brains, trying to work out what the bell method could be! Not surprisingly, there is no mention of the bell skirting method on Google! This is so me! Thank you for replying! I had assumed that youtube would make it obvious, but from what you describe, you have done everything to get notified of future videos! Thanks so much to both of you for your support and your patience 🙏
best video ever :)
Thank you so much! 🙏
CAN I PET THOSE DOGS!!!
Haha 😄 They are very much like dogs!! They are much bigger now and so are their horns, but they are still very sweet natured!
Congratulations on growing your channel so quickly. I subscribed after I took home one of your leaflets from the first fibre event at Bangor. I have never done any felting although I do many other crafts (spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet and needle felting). This was an interesting insight into how the analytics on KZread work. I look forward to seeing more content from you.
Thank you so much! What a lovely comment! 😍 I really appreciate your support! I need to find more people just like you! There are so many projects and videos i want to create, that i don't know where to start. Everything from a vessel for beginners to felting a childs party dress from a silk wedding dress and Everything inbetween. Lots of wool processing, hints and cheats too! Hopefully we will soon add wet felting to your woolly skills!
Absolutely stunning!
Thank you! I can't believe i posted the first two parts on the felting with the promise of part 3 when I hadn't actually eco-printed at that point! Fortunately, the result is exactly as I had hoped, but the problems I had with cameras and mobile phones stopping recording. Gimbles running out of charge and then my laptop packed in! not good! Still, all part of the learning curve! I have been meaning to pop into ewe felty thing for ages, when I do, I will also pop into your shop and say hello!
What a stunning result ❤
Thank you! I often have ideas in my mind and never actually create them. I think this is because the image is perfect in my mind and so I don't to tarnish that mental image by creating something that could fall short. As this turned out just as I imagined and described throughout its creation, I hope that I am breaking down some of my own barriers to felting!
@@fflwff it certainly did - gorgeous and such an amazing process! All the tech side can be so stressful and takes up more time than the making a lot of the time. 🙈 Do pop in and say hi if you around, having Ewe Felty Thing just down the road is so dangerous for me! I popped in for one thing the other day and came out with three! 😂
Gorgeous rug! 💕
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful rugs! The Gotland is gorgeous 💕
Thank you so much! The smokey grey curls are lovely!
Oh my! They are so cute I can't stand it!🥰
Thank you! They are a bit special! 🥰
I see Wensleydale and immediately think of Wallace and Gromit
Haha! I wonder how many people will actually think they are made from 🧀
Now i can wear crop tops in the winter!
Haha Brilliant!😂
Thank you for sharing! Did you roll it ever, or just worked from the top/ lock side?
Hi yes u did roll it. One I had the backing somewhat stable, I put a sheet if bubble Wrap over the top and a piece of ply board. I then asked my husband to help me flip it over so I could work on the back and roll it.
Wanted to see if grass was greener as they say.
😄 He's still not convinced it isn't. Iori and his partner in crime, Jac, make it their daily mission to get into the woods! Iori often gets stuck in Bramble due to his curly fleece and needs rescuing! Sometimes they even come back on their own and pretent they haven't left their paddock. But having branches of Bramble stuck to them is a bit of a giveaway!
@@fflwff you sound like their loving care giver. Bless you for your good humour.
Thank you! Part 2 will be published in the next day or two
Great ! where are you from ? are you on any other social Media ? Facebook ? can we connect ?
how long have been having PD ?
I was Diagnosed Feb 2017 so have been fortunate in having a slow progression. I am on facebook. Just look for Fflwff and you will see my logo. If not, let me know and I will find my link for you. I have also just started a group called felting with disability.
Hi, nice job
Thank you so much!
So beautiful...how long did that take!?🥰👍
Thank you! It took many weeks! The felting into a rug took a day of prep and laying out the backing wool and a day of felting. But getting it clean was a nightmare. Most rugs would only take me 2 or 3 days but this one was a challenge!
very useful!
Thank you! I hope you will get a lot of use from it!
BRILLIANT! Thank you. I’m a math hater
You are more than welcome! Gives me such a buzz to help my fellow felters!
Very helpful. Thank you.Video is very well done, very professional.
Thank you! So glad you found it helpful and thank you for subscribing!
Well done! Very informative! The more you edit and put videos together the easier it’ll be! Seriously well done ❤
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your feedback!
Ace, although not a felter, a great first video :)
Thank you so much! Your support is very much appreciated!
