Fish Standard was inspired by an insane passion for outdoor activities including fishing, farming, hunting, and fur trapping. When other content creators failed to provide the combination of entertainment and information that I desired I decided to start creating on my own.
While sharing my content is an enjoyable hobby, I am unapologetically an outdoor enthusiast first. This means that every adventure I share is 100% real and authentic. Catfishing, ultralight fishing, alfalfa farming, deer and turkey hunting, and predator trapping are a few of the activities I pursue.
Fish Standard is all about keeping things simple, ethical, and fun. I use standard gear and setups, uphold a high standard for outdoor ethics, and maintain a high standard of success.

Nice flattie. Those are so fun to catch. Especially in a kayak.
Great bass. Looking into making a simple lure retriever that hooks a weight onto your line. I love ultralight fishing. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Every Flatty is a good flatty! Nice vid brother.
Thank you!
Enjoyed it!
Thank you!
Keep up the good work, very nice fish you got there !
Thank you!

Thanks for watching!
That's why I buy a cheap phone lost many fishing it sucks
😂 This was my first and hopefully my last! Thanks for watching!
Your videos are AWESOME. Ya got a new subscriber.
Thank you! Appreciate the support!
So you just suspend the bait in open water near a brush pile and hope to get hit? I've never seen this, but I am impressed with the result. Well done!
Pretty much. It’s a safe bet that fish will be holding in or around brush in comparatively deeper water. I get as close to the cover as I can. If there’s a fish there and I can get a bait close enough they will probably take it.
Is this a tributary of the Missouri River?
Not directly, though the water does eventually make it there. This is two rivers removed from the Kansas, which is a tributary of the Missourri.
Here our river is very low, the average deepest area is around 9-10', now around 3-4'. The water is crystal clear and you can see them, people has stopped fishing. The temperature here is averaging 90 degrees every week. Surprised to see you doing another video but glad to get to see one and you catching one! God Bless and stay cool and safe! (Glen). WV.
Thanks for watching! Hopefully we will see a shift in the drought conditions sometime soon!
😊😊😊😊😊 VERY NICE KITTY 🐱
Thank you!
Quick question what setup are you using and how much did it cost
I paired a KastKing Rover 60 baitcasting reel with a 7’ medium heavy Ugly Stik catfishing rod. I run a basic Carolina rig almost exclusively - 80lb mainline braid, barrel swivel, 40lb monofilament leader, 8/0 circle hook. Rod and reel combo cost around $90 bucks, though that price is probably around $110 now. It’s a solid combo for the price. You can get something better but would be hard pressed to find better quality at this price point.
Great video. Lots of good info
Appreciate the positive feedback. Thanks for watching!
First, please pin also, I am subbed
Thanks for subscribing!
That was a channel cat? 👀 😱
They’re a hard fighting fish!
My dad caught a grass carp last night
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Stand those rods up straight bud. The rods have memory and will warp
Thanks for the tip!
Why fish for some thing you don't eat .c.cat fish you eat only f. Cat .fish
While catching fish for food is an extremely important reason for angling, it is not the only valid reason. Your state wildlife department probably has some information available to help address your question. Funding received from the sale of licenses is critical to conservation efforts and would likely be near the top of the list.
Nice
Nice fish.
i thought you had your hook stuck on those sticks lol
I wish I could catch fish when I went fishing :(
Check out some of the full length videos on my channel. They should help you get started!
Nice
damn🔥
Nice 🐟 🐠 🎣 🐡
Beautiful Channels, that's what I've been using bluegills and crappie! I lost one probably around 55# to 60#'s 2 nights ago on a crappie. I got to touch it lol Flathead.. If I had my big net, I would've landed him. Keep those lines tight, God Bless you! (Glen). WV.
Sorry to hear about the big Flathead. That’s a heartbreak! I haven’t been getting on any flatheads out here this year. As always, thanks for the support!
Nice channel cat! Catfish are my favorite target. They fight like mad. I'm looking into getting a kayak just for the extra thrill of having them drag me around the river 😆 Where are you, and what gear are you using? I fish the Chattahoochee and use 65lb braid with a 80lb mono leader on Penn 5500 and 4000 reels. Live or cut bluegill as bait. PB is 23lb 9oz, but I've had a flathead break the leader at the boat.. heartbreaking, to say the least 😅
This is actually not a blue, but a channel catfish caught in north-central Kansas. Fish 80lb braid with 40lb mono leader. 7’ Medium Heavy Ugly Stik Catfish rod paired with KastKing Rover 60 baitcaster reel. Solid combo for the price. I fish tight to cover so I like the mono leader to be a lesser lb test than the mainline braid. If I hang up and have to break off I’ll get the lead back most of the time. Thanks for watching!
Nice fish though all around
Wya catching 10lbers. Up here in PA in the Delaware 20-25 around where I’m at
Would love to get on a 20lb channel. They just don’t grow that big here. This particular river is pretty small. Not sure if that limits the growth of the fish. On my water, if you get a channel over ten pounds that’s a seriously big fish.
Better hope you can swim in jeans and boots
I don't think it's shallow water but just missing a boat.
Dont you ever keep the fish?
On a rare occasion I will keep a few smaller fish. I do usually release my catch, but I fully support others keeping theirs if that is their preference.
Is that a kastking reel?
Yes, Rover 60
Nice
I understand your pain. I'll be fishing all day and catch a dink and feel so haopy
Aura levels 📈📈📈📈
What rod and reel you using ?
KastKing Rover 60 paired with Ugly Stik 7’ Medium Heavy catfish rod. Good setup for the price.
Any day out on the water is a good day! Nice channels there, It's 95 degrees here since Fri last week. I haven't gotten to go, where they took my lung out, I can't breathe that hot air. They're spawning here now, can catch 1 or 2 what some of the guy's have told me. They stocked blues in the little lake here near me, put in 2,500 a month ago. I'm going after dog days when it cools. The stocked ones are on average 2', good eaters! Keep those lines tight and drag a singing! God Bless you! (Glen). WV.
Thanks for the support, Glen! Good luck with the blues this fall.
Great catch brother
Thanks!
Wicked man wish game was that easy where i come from. Beautiful fish keep it up
It’s easy when you get a bait in front of them, but they aren’t always easy to find. Thanks for watching!
Respect brother... Any dude able to pull a monster flat from a kayak deserves some recognition. RIP to your phone but I would have done the same if I knew how big that fish was lol. Worth it!
Thanks! Definitely a memorable catch.
somethin is better than nothin sometimes though!
Agreed!
It's a cat. That is rare
I wonder when this video was filmed approximately... I've been having trouble finding good bites recently out here in Missouri. I've heard it's spawn for cats and they are bedding so less likely to bite, apparently after Father's Day they start biting better.
The bite gets super tough during spawn on these small rivers. It seems like maybe they’ve started, but I haven’t seen much evidence of spawning yet on the fish I’ve caught (swollen heads, darker colors, scars, etc). Video was filmed pretty recently. Just keep putting the time in. It will pay off.
Good catch, man! Hopefully you keep getting bigger and bigger ones!.
I use a bobber works perfect for crappie
Something’s are being exploited it’s nice when you catch and release if not needed but its my thoughts on how catfish live for years in there bank spot and we will run out
This fish was released, though I fully support keeping your catch if desired and where legal. Thanks for watching.
That's the best way to fight the fish it's a great technique
How would this reel be for carp fishing? I am currently running a 5000 Daiwa black widow carp reel and a Daiwa black widow carp rod. I need a another setup but I would prefer something a bit bigger as I'm afraid if I hook into a 50 pound carp it may spool me. So I'm just looking for a bigger reel that's not extremely expensive.
I would personally prefer a spinning reel for carp. KastKing has several listed on their website for around the same price point as the Rover. I haven’t used any of their spinning reels, but would assume they are similar in quality.
