Brings back so many memories, music really transports you to a time a place, in my mind's eye I recall exactly where I was when I first heard this song , the duet with Patti LaBelle!!

Mr. Marsalis will probably never see this comment, but what he is talking about is VERY similar to what Mike Longo learned from Dizzy. The African element to jazz that is often totally ignored in academia because it is "hard to explain." Mike Longo was a great teacher of the Polyrhythmic Nature of Jazz. He spoke of the different layers of 6/8 over 4. He also spoke of the slow 3 against the 4, and the importance of the 5. I hear Oscar Peterson, Cannonball Adderley, Wes Montgomery, and Bobby Timmons embrace that multilayered approach to playing time--makes it swing harder than a mere triplet see-sawed eighth note approximation. Yeko Ladzekepo-Cole teaches that stuff right outta West African drum and dance tradition--I would die and go to heaven to take one of his Cal Arts courses!

She looks so fine and Michael looks like a slob, but he still sings pretty good, not as good as before, but he can still hit it.

This was a fundraiser for a charity event in California. They both sounded magnificent and the band did a great job. This is not an easy song to play. Michael’s voice is strong and wonderful to hear. I agree that Sky’s voice was angelic. Congratulations for a wonderful event.
