I think they should have played the game, recorded it and then had a podcast about nuclear war while commentating on what they did in the game.

Learning that the Hellblade 2 reveal was nothing but a CG trailer for a game that wouldn’t release for four years.

I would agree on the point that if anyone targets another country with nuclear armaments, even if it's a tactical nuclear strike rather than ICBM deathfest. You launch on me and target a military target? we retaliate with equal force. you escalate it further? we nuke you into the stone age. By not responding in kind with that sort of weaponry, it is a show of weakness - you did not respond in kind once? well you might decide to do so again with another minor nuclear strike, again and again. It's like a Bully in school. It's not until you defend yourself and respond with the same force that they really STOP. or do worse of course, but hey, same thing with war, but in this case, you are able to keep responding in kind.

It's easy to beat Alpha Centauri. Some of the buildings and wonders are straight up broken OP... until you realize the tradeoff costs of securing those advantages aren't represented by the numbers in the game, but in your soul as a player. Sure you beat the game, but your citizens are not free, you've normalized man made horrors beyond your comprehension, and your species isn't even really human anymore. The REAL hardmode for Alpha Centauri is not in cranking up the difficulty to 'Transcend', but in playing a normal game, and electing NOT to build nutrient reclamation plants to send your elderly into to better feed the young, never to profit from yourself engineering vaguely-human slaves designed to not know pain to work your mines, and to think twice before before committing to state sanctioned medical experimentation on living citizens in 'research' hospitals. And when you decide not to do these things, surrounded by 6 other factions who themselves have few qualms of reaping those massive benefits, you come to realize just what 'hard' really means. Are you prepared for the hardship of being moral in an immoral world? To act the way humanity should, when surrounded by humanity as it is?

I don’t know why I hadn’t seen this video sooner - I love Valkyria Chronicles, sadly Sega killed it by locking VC2 to PSP/PsVita, VC3 locked to Japan only, VC4 came back to console, but seemed like a afterthought. I really do hope VC2 & VC3 will eventually get a English Remaster on Consoles, and that VC5 does happen eventually.

"It revels in a rationalist worldview that I was repulsed by throughout. The idea that logic and cold, hard rational thought will solve all the world's problems." Cold hard rational thought, paired with empathy and kindness, is the only thing that can solve the world's problems. Woo, superstition, and spiritual gobbledygook will not solve anything and seek only to further divide and distract us from real problems. A materialist world view couched in empathy and a real understanding of the material conditions people actually suffer in is the only way forward.
