Holistic Vet

Holistic Vet

I have been a practicing veterinarian coming up on 30 years and as soon as I knew there was something I could be when I grew up, I knew it was a veterinarian for me. I attended Cornell University and proceeded to the University of Florida for my veterinary degree and internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. After practicing traditional medicine for ten years I found many cases were not responding to traditional medications and diet options were few. As veterinarians, we had depended heavily on the large food companies to provide for the nutritional needs of our patients. I knew more could be done with nutrition and holistic care and I started on a path to learn more. On this channel, I’m going to give you tips to making home cooking for your pets easy!

    More ppl shud know about these being a hazard! Yeah this happened when my dog was a puppy I was renting and had a very overgrown backyard and I had to run to the bathroom really fast really badly and didn’t realize until that really late evening while in the shower she was obsessively picking at her butt & crying - she drove a foxtail in further. Cost me $500 and she & were both terrified! My poor baby, she was hurting. Someone warned me to be careful too but she didn’t want to come inside at the moment and I really had to go.

    People should also be careful about letting their dogs sniff around in tall weeded areas or where foxtails are, as they can migrate through the nose and into the lungs. I’ve seen that happen with thorns as well

    Hi, I do not recommend giving the same food to cats and dogs as they have different nutritional needs. Cats are obligate carnivores, and essential nutrients all come from meat sources. Dogs are different in that they can digest carbohydrates. As long as they have quality protein, they will burn carbohydrates for energy. It lessens their carbon footprint. Planet-friendly and species-friendly:).

    After cooking, the prepared diet can be refrigerated for 4 days. If feeding raw, the diet should be frozen in servings for up to 4 months and thawed out for each feeding thereafter. Cooked food can be frozen for up to 6 months.

  • @HolisticVet
    @HolisticVet7 күн бұрын

    I add a few Tbsp's of either parsley, spinach, pumpkin, or squash to my recipes. Neither cats nor dogs can digest the cell walls of plants but lightly cooking or pureeing them allows them to digest some and benefit from the phytonutrients and antioxidants in vegetables.

    If I could jump through the screen and hug you I would. I searched how to prepare healty food for cats and this was right up at the top. I have been feeding my cats merrick back country pouches. I havent been happy with the food and now its basically gone. I am a big organic and more plant based diet for me and my cats are my world and deserve quality healty food. This was amazing! Exactly what I was looking for. I wasnt sure how the added nutrients work but now I see theres things to add, PERFECT. I am glad you said over 6 to use senior. I cant comprehend my cats being seniors. They were born spring of 2016 and they still my BABIES I want them to live a very long and healty life. Enough of this garbage food. Im so happy I found this thank you!!!!

    Hi there, there is dehydrated grass fed beef in the premix, calcium, vitamins, minerals, and taurine. You could try it with a unique protein such as bison, lamb, or venison. Feed for 3-6 weeks with little variation to see if there is improvement. Unfortunately, the food allergy tests out there have many false negatives and positives so you really have to do a diet trial.

    What’s the BEST thing for dehydration? Especially for hot summer days and being inside is not an option unfortunately due to my mothers allergies😭… He did just get out of a stay at the vet hospital for parvo and dehydration and I did take a whole week off to help get him well until it all passes. I did use a 1 oz syringe (like a turkey baster) to help him drink some water but he didn’t to much care for it… He will be 5 months on 7/27/24. Any other tips I’d greatly appreciate
