Crewel Ghoul Embroidery

Crewel Ghoul Embroidery

Hi! My name is Amanda and I am a hand embroidery artist. I also run a needle craft blog focused mainly around hand embroidery and thread painting.

I created this channel to share what I’ve learned over the past 10+ years I’ve been stitching. I hope to inspire you, help you to learn embroidery, and also express yourself through creativity!

Thank you for this!! I have been doing cross stitch and embroidery for years, but was always too afraid to mount anything properly so I have so many finished works waiting in drawers. This helped to simplify the process c:

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, do you mean putting an embroidery on another fabric? If so you could sew it on like patch!

This is what I've been intending to do with an old floral doona cover that belongs to my Mum. It's older than I am and I'm 34. She has one and Nan had one, but Mum's is really quite worn whereas Nan's is in much better condition as she passed many years ago, so Mum has finally retired hers to use Nan's instead. I was thinking it would be a nice gift to cut a section out of her old one and embroider over the top of it so it has a more textured appearance and brings the colours to life again. Also it'll be art on the wall that matches her bedspread.

I love sewing and doing small hand crafts. I don't really embroider full things like this, but I have embroidered faces on dolls and stuff. I taught my son to sew a button on his shorts today. And I am teaching to use a sewing machine. These are good skills to have.

This would in a way be a cool way to use with deadstock fabrics to give them a new life. Like how you didn't cover up the entire art, just a focal point, so both art styles are shown, and old fabric doesn't just go into landfill.

I have ADHD. So embroidery is very soothing and enjoyable yet I am always rushing to try to finish a last minute project for a gift and then I do something dumb to ruin it. And I tend to hyperfocus where I just don't stop. Which leads to more mistakes. So totally agree with your recommendation to try and stop, take a break, take every stitch one stitch at a time. Also if it is worth your time it is worth a little more money for quality supplies. They do make a difference.
