Love your humor! Quick question for you. I need my light to be a flexible light strip due to how my setup looks like. Do you think COB LED lights would work well as grow lights? I have found some that are 5000 kelvin and 5000 lumens. They run on just a 12V 5A power supply.

i'm not sure where people got the impression that you needed high quality grow lights to grow house plants. those are not intended for house plants at all. lol and normal leds from home depot will not provide the energy or par level required for the said plants to produce anything worth the time spent. i always thought this was common knowledge till i started reading the comments.

Anyone who's too fancy for aluminium foil can just make their reflectors out of whatever and then line that with the foil. Or buy a "rescue blanket" and use that instead - then they have a nice anecdote to explain that it's totally not aluminium foil.

The reason Thai Constellation has problems "I have heard" is because they are all infected with Pythium which is a parasite and spread through tissue culture.

People do confuse bottom watering with using measured amount of water. You can actually super easily overwater your plants by doing bottom watering, you just need to add enough of water that allows to get the full saturation of the substrate. Bottom watering is good when you actually know how much of water you should add to the soil each time (assuming that the soil water holding capacity is significantly greater than that amount). You also need to make sure you add the same amount each time (considering that the temperature is rather stable through the growing season). I keep multiple cacti in trays and I use measured amount of water. That prevents any root rot or plants splitting from overdrinking. I decrease the amount of water added only at the beginning and at the end of growing season, when it's much cooler. With bottom watering I can also prevent soil structure degradation, that would inevitably happen if I top water cacti without using a thick layer of top dressing (I use a soil rather than soilless mix). Bottom watering is also several times faster to do, particularly if you need to water multiple small plants.
