    Was the second fish a musky? I caught one that looked identical just smaller a couple weeks ago. Couldn’t find anything saying if it was a pike or musky

    I was going to add a few points with my experience. The walleye will stage the night of the full moon in 6-7 foot flats, when the pike are super shallow bunched up the walleye are around. I caught a 36 inch pike in 2 feet of water the night of the fly hatch. The even years 2022, 2024 have better numbers. I have witnessed this a few times of the french river and have a spotlight seeing the walleye just swim around eating their faces off in 3-5 feet of water. Really cool video and I have spent time seeing this science work.

    Nice job, Liam (& Gord). Always learn a few new tricks from you guys. I've been using slow-death for several years now but your leader in this video appears to be 5 or 6 ft long. I've always thought shorter (3-4 ft) was better (so as to avoid dragging bottom) but maybe it's time to make some changes next time I'm out on the water.

    1. Don't fish from a boat during the hatch, only do shore in shallow water the last hour of sun and sundown. 2. simple jig and a dead minnow or biggest black head you can get. 3. Big walleyes(23-30") will be in 2-4 ft or less half hour after total dark. The big eyes eat mayflies like candy. Fishing from a boat is a total waste of time during this time.

    @@aubytrice1868 If you think boat is the best way to fish during may fly hatch, you have never caught 8 walleyes all over 27" in 2 hours, and 5 eyes under 23" in that same time. From shore. I hope everyone goes fishing from the boat during the may fly hatch, more room for me at the shallow mud flat bays.

  • @aubytrice1868
    @aubytrice186816 күн бұрын

    @@commonsenseapproach101 the amount of water you can cover from shore is a spec compared to fishing from a boat. Everything you do from shore is very easy to do from a boat. And if you fished from a boat youd know that mayfly dont only hatch on shore lines and big walleyes certainly don’t only live there either they mosty only show up in shallows to spawn and feed on mayflys and shiner spawns but those windows are very short . I love fishing from shore but the catch rate is about 20 to 1 when fishing from shore compared to a boat.

  • @commonsenseapproach101
    @commonsenseapproach10116 күн бұрын

    @@aubytrice1868 So how does a boat get into a 3-4 ft bay or mud flat? The comparison of boat and shore fishing during the hatch(carp hatch happens at the same time in the shallow areas, so its just a HUGE feeding frenzy for big eyes for a 3-4 week period. In the deeper water, they big eyes are Not as near as aggressive as the last 2 hours of sunlight along shore, especially if the wind is blowing into it. ). Like I said, keep fishing from the boat in that period and leave the shorelines open for me. Nothing like pulling up quick and pitching a jig or shallow crank. Now after the hatch is done, yes then the boat is awesome for 2 more weeks, because the bait went away from the main hatch. I'll take shore fishing during the best time of year for big eyes(fall frog time is a very close 2nd) over a boat, any day. I own a decent boat but in no way is the boat the same during that period.

  • @aubytrice1868
    @aubytrice186816 күн бұрын

    @@commonsenseapproach101 I can easily get my boat in 3 or 4 feet of water, all you can fish from shore is as far as you can cast leaving so much more for the guy on the boat and what about the places you just cant access from shore? You can from a boat. Mayfly hatch all day long when the conditions are right and that is why you see fish blowing up all day during a hatch and all over the lake as well and walleyes feed all day as well. Those feeding frenzies happen all over the lake. I agree that fishing from shore is very good at certain times but it is even better out on the lake during those same times where again you can only cover a spec of bank while bank fishing. I added ffs along with my other electronics and trust me I am not joking when I say the catch rate is 20 to 1. I fish from shore too and it is not comparable.

    Liam another thing to add which maybe you can talk about is if pike are found super shalllow, walleye have pushed them up, also when you catch smallies they usually are a few feet higher than the walleye
