Ayo bro loved ur breakdown of the custrom keyboard hobby as fellow Singaporean recently getting into the rabbit hole myself! Tht being said I hv to comment: many custom keyboard hobby discord grps, like SG MK discord grp(idk abt others im only talking from my experience) are rlly toxic. Idk why but everytime i ask how is switch like on diff keyboards i get things like "i lost so many braincells reading ur question; u know its subjective right?" Like to me its jsut wtf, im only asking abt their experiences with diff keyboard switches...and even when i ask wht stabs u recommend they give one liners as if im stupid. maybe im being a bit too sensitive but shouldnt the mechanical keyboard hobby be abt curiosity and exploring? why then this need for elitism and such arrogant behavior.... Honestly im disappointed as of now how toxic custom keyboard hobbyists can be, esp online when the simplest and most innocent of questions get flamed . And the worst part is when i talked to other keyboard enthusaists from other groups and in other countries they nvr responded in the toxic manner that the Sg kb grps showed to me. But what do you think?
@benfromsgАй бұрын
Hey fellow Singaporean! Nice to meet u here! Yeah I don’t get the toxicity also, my encounter was in the sgmk fb group. Wouldn't most hard code excel people use the keyboard almost exclusively to navigate anyway, making it pointless to switch it to the other side?
@benfromsgАй бұрын
I'm not a SUPER proficient excel user, nor do I use excel daily. And I'm sure there are shortcuts that I can probably use to get around, but for me, a few actions like toggling sheets, and between windows to copy and retrieve data, require me to use mouse quite abit to get the pointer/cell exactly where I need it. Besides excel though, I use Fusion360 almost every other day and it is much easier to start working on a feature like extrude with my left hand, and then move the same left hand to the numpad for keying in dimensions. My right hand remains on the mouse for any reorientations/selections.
@el10leoАй бұрын
The colleague: "Wait, where are the F keys? I use those every single day! Also who the actual f*** would rather have no F keys and the number keys TWICE? Wait, it costs HOW MUCH?!" @benfromsg: "but it's southpaw! And it has a little RGB above the arrow keys!", probably.
@benfromsgАй бұрын
It depends on your use case. I don't particularly need the F row keys daily to CAD out our machining parts and neither do my colleagues. I can see excelsheet and coders using the F row but there's also the Wind X 98 for that. And I'm pretty sure you haven't seen worse choices in this keyboard hobby than the WindX here for functionality, otherwise you won't be saying such things.
@thesistersofbattleАй бұрын

@thesistersofbattleАй бұрын
@@benfromsg It is delusion to believe $300 is justified for the keyboard case and PCB which, at this price point, doesn't appear to be QMK/VIA compatible per their website. @@benfromsg I'm just being realistic man, I don't know which part of the world you live in, where people not extremely into "the hobby" of custom keyboards would think it's even remotely reasonable to spend that kind of money on a keyboard. And tbh I think we like to call this "hobby" when in reality it's just good old frivolous consumerism, but that's a different discussion entirely. In less words: the title of the video is completely deluded but you sure baited interactions so it works.
@benfromsgАй бұрын
Trust me, I’m considered realistic as a mechanical keyboard-only reviewer and content reviewer. I suggest you watch my previous video on the Aella where I regretted spending 500 bucks on a piece of aluminum block. Point is. Everyone has a different measuring stick in terms of how they gauge functionality, acoustics and frills. I love functionality. But I also enjoy the premium feel of aluminum, copper and heft to my tool, as opposed to plastic ones. Do I value wireless features? Yep. But do they exist in a decent looking keyboard? Not really. Which is why I sold off the Magnet65 which has wireless functionality but I didn’t like how it looked. What I’m trying to get across sincerely is you can have a preference and also how you spend your money. But to call someone else’s way of spending on things they like or value more as simply frivolous is just shallow. Now do I think there are people who just spend on frivolous items? I sure do, but it’s not for me to get on my high horse to say they are wrong. Hence my reply of “you do you”.

I have a gaming laptop and the keyboard on it does have the F-keys in case I do need to go in. The games I play don´t need the f-keys either. I don´t even remember what most of the f-keys do since I never use them. Maybe I´m missing out on some functionality. But for me my everyday use, I have never missed them.
@@jamesmadison3108usually you have function keys on the second layer numrow and that's good enough. The f keys themselves kind of waste space for how often they get used
I want to hear a sound test of a aluminum top with a polycarbonate bottom
May not be exactly what you are looking for but the Ikki68 Snow is a alu top and pc bottom. kzread.infoiCNH52m-lLI?feature=share
How were you able to change the rgb lighting in the back of the keeb?
Honestly, I forgot. It’s been too long. These days it’s a combo of FN + a certain key usually arrows/shift/enter/space
Thanks but I have to mute the video and turn on the subtitles to understand this singlish
Well, that's what subtitles are for
Ayo bro loved ur breakdown of the custrom keyboard hobby as fellow Singaporean recently getting into the rabbit hole myself!
Hey fellow Singaporean! Nice to meet u here! Yeah I don’t get the toxicity also, my encounter was in the sgmk fb group. It’s most likely those internet trolling, 10 to early twenties age group that’s that way. The few I’ve met in person were really nice! If you want to hangout, ktechs (my channel partner) has a new store location with a cool hangout area and the peeps there are really friendly! Also, if it helps, u can message me on discord too! Same user benfromsg 😁
@@benfromsg oh damn thts sick bro! ktechs has a kb hangout location, im down for it! will msg u more on discord abt it! thanks man
Being a left handed numpad but the 0 is on the right handed side is a deal breaker especially for a $300 board that has limited customizability. Some will even use the numpad for all macro.
Interesting... is the 0 on the right really bothersome for people? I never thought about that
👀👍! i think clicky switches are very fun, and give a very clear audible feedback of each keypress, which i like a lot. however, to each their own. I'd recommend lichicx silent tactiles and linears, as they don't feel mushy even though they have some sort of rubber or silicone in the switch.
GUYS! I FOUND A CLICKY FAN! Just kidding heh. I'll certainly give those silent switches you mentioned a try if I come across them. I haven't tried any good ones, albeit only about 3 or so thus far.
Saw a few videos and you are doing a great job. Really pleasant experience to hear and watch. Wonder how i never got you recommended until now :)
Thanks for the compliments! The algo works in wondrous ways haha!
lol bro apparently forgot about the "Tab" key while using Excel 🤣 Southpaw may be good for southpawed people but otherwise nahhhh
I plead the fifth. lol.
Did some research for those interested: The Case/PCB of this is over $300, without switches. Keychron makes the Q12 for $200. Same layout but, after buying switches for the product in this video and paying taxes on all of it, effectively half the price.
Fair point!
Wouldn't most hard code excel people use the keyboard almost exclusively to navigate anyway, making it pointless to switch it to the other side?
I'm not a SUPER proficient excel user, nor do I use excel daily. And I'm sure there are shortcuts that I can probably use to get around, but for me, a few actions like toggling sheets, and between windows to copy and retrieve data, require me to use mouse quite abit to get the pointer/cell exactly where I need it. Besides excel though, I use Fusion360 almost every other day and it is much easier to start working on a feature like extrude with my left hand, and then move the same left hand to the numpad for keying in dimensions. My right hand remains on the mouse for any reorientations/selections.
To anyone not wanting to get taken advantage of, you can get an 80% keyboard and 20% numpad separately, then put the numpad on the left for less than half the cost. And it will sound just as good.
Especially when Fn keys are important for work
Except no one makes a matching set thats wireless
@@RealHankShill zoom?
Hmm, I don't think it's fair to say being "taken advantage of". There's different aesthetics, uses and preferences. It's functional to just put the numpad, but you won't get the continuity nor the same looks in a single piece of machined metal. To each his own. I can see why it works for you.
@@benfromsg It is delusion to believe $300 is justified for the keyboard case and PCB which, at this price point, doesn't appear to be QMK/VIA compatible per their website. Customers are absolutely being taken advantage of. Pile on the cost of switches and keycaps if you choose not to use the "artisan" ones they throw in for free and you are crossing into the $400 area after tax. Taken advantage of.
So, how to buy the exact keyboard you have? Please tell me what steps you taken to buy this. Found it, and neverminded. 300$+ is not my budget. Thanks for the video thought
Yeah I don't think I'll meet a colleague down to spend over $50 on a keyboard that might not even be wireless and weights the same as a newborn baby. I think he means imaginary colleagues.
I would say to look into r/mm or discord channels for secondhand used ones. You can find keyboards there for less than their groupbuy prices.
@@el10leo you do you man, you do you.
Wonderfully produced video! This is exactly what I tell my friends why you would want a southpaw keyboard!
Thanks for the compliments!
If you buy boards just to have it sound nice, just buy the Aula F75. Its like 30 to 50 sgd from taobao. Comes pre modded and prebuilt with all the foam stuff u can think of. No need spend 500 bucks.
It’s not just about sounding nice as I mentioned. It’s also the design and aesthetics that need to convince me that it’s worth that price.
Imagine making a keyboard with the spacebar at the top? That's what a righty numpad in the lefty position feels like to me. Not using the correct fingers, not even possible to Nice vid mate. Getting really tired of right-handed numpads on the left side though. My left hand, like most people’s, is shaped differently from my right hand… using these numpads is terrible that way for me. Some people do like it though. Never understood this layout though. You would think with all the engineering they put into a board, they would get this right.
So it’s better to have a lefty numpad on the left? I do agree not nearly enough design thought is put into the keyboard layout
"It literally makes them a better person." Sold...take my money 😂😂
I need more than a few too 😂
That's a nice sounding board, back looks beautiful too
The magic is in the JWK semi silents!

never tried it, first impression - looks plain, nothing really stands out.
very low capacity for building beautiful keyboards.
You should work on your pronunciation and perhaps style. The information is great though
Improvement never stops! 🫡💪🏻
was looking at this, but i cant get over that ugly ass knob D:, went with the ND75 instead
Nice vid mate
Nice to see you again!
Fantastic video. This is my first year in the hobby and FOMO definitely has gotten me once or three times lol.
You and me both!
