This Old Heart Of Mine Lyrics Rod Stewart & Ronald Isley This old heart of mine been broke a thousand times. Each time you break away, I feel you're gone to stay. Lonely nights that come, memories that go, bringing you back again, hurting me more and more. Maybe it's my mistake to show this love that I feel inside, 'cause each day that passes by you got me never knowing if I'm coming or going but I love you, yes I do (this old heart) I love you, yes I do (yes I do- wait for me) I try hard to hide my hurt inside. This old heart of mine always keeps me crying. The way you treat me leaves me incomplete. Yeah, you're here for the day, gone for the week. But if you leave me a hundred times, a hundred times I'll take you back. I'm yours whenever you want me; I not too proud to shout it, tell the world about it 'cause I love you; this old heart weeps for you. I love you; this old heart weeps for you. This old heart of mine been broke a thousand times. Each time you break away, I feel you're gone to stay. Lonely nights that come, memories that go, bringing you back again, hurting me more and more. Maybe it's my mistake to show this love I feel inside, girl 'cause each day that passes by you got me never knowing if I'm coming or going 'cause, I love you, yes I do (this old heart of mine, weeps for you) I love you; yes I do, yes I do. I love you; (this old heart, darlin', weeps for you) I love you; this old heart, darlin', weeps for you. I love you; yes I do, yes, I do. I love you. Oh, yeah. (been broke a thousand times)

This is the recording that inspired Paul Simon to write "Bridge Over Troubled Water" -- whose title comes from the line at 2:09: "I'll be a bridge over deep water if you trust in my name."

that is the 4 Marvelettes on that record! The reason Motown started using other background singers on tracks were because the groups were out on the road and they only wanted to pay for flying the lead singer back to Detroit to record a track quickly.

That is not true. Motown wanted a more ‘polished’ sound in an attempt to appeal to wider (white) audiences.

The Motown producers had a trick or two. They knew a vocalist’s range and arranged the song so that it was at the upper edge of that. It gave an urgency to the performance. They especially did that to David Ruffin, I am thinking of Ain’t Too Proud to Beg. The highest notes made his voice break. They really knew what they were doing.

Most importantly, he had the gift of writing. As far as loyalty to a woman, you start understanding the value of it in your 30s. Living the moment it’s the manifestation of life. Thinking there is tomorrow it’s the part that makes us rational human. This is one of the prettiest sonds ever recorded. Lana Canteell recorded this in the early 70's and a record is very expensive and it was never put in CD. Astrud does an excellent job on this song which seems to be a bit difficult to sing.
