Hello! Welcome to Wild Ginger Running, the UK's best Trail Running KZread Channel for gear tests, advice, athlete interviews, race recces and inspiration.
Whatever your level, distance, shape or size, you're welcome & supported here. Ask me any trail running or outdoorsy questions too!
My history:
In 2010 I was excited to co-found Trail Running, the UK’s first magazine dedicated to my fave sport.
As editor, I grew the magazine from twice-yearly to bi-monthly, with a website, Facebook page, Twitter & KZread channel.
While leading our #Run1000Miles Facebook group in 2017, I fell in love with the immediacy and audience engagement that social media offers.
That’s why I created Wild Ginger Running in July 2017 - a KZread channel and social media platforms with weekly trail & ultra running advice, gear reviews and inspiration to a fast-growing audience of all levels, shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the review, it was super helpful!
Noooooo! I've missed it (the live broadcast) again lol - I really need to put this into my calendar
This is such a great idea. I cannot relate to the front runners. But this is more like us going up in distances. Thank you. Please do more of these.
He organises the races for no real reward. Fair play to him 👏
Just caught up with this today via the podcast. Wow. Sally is an amazing person. I really like her positive attitude and hope that she does eventually get back to some form of running, if not even ultras again?
Please enjoy them. Thank you for all your help
On a dog walk listening to the podcast version and I am just wincing listening in, although a fe n tin_ol lolly sounds like it might be fun 😂
Ouch. Thanks for sharing. I stumbled up running up Easedale three weeks back and my god I was lucky just bruised ribs and avoided and head impact. These things happen. Lots of broken ankles makes you want to know how to avoid such injuries. I use poles a lot which have saved my more times that I could count. The Garmin subscription to SoS might now feature higher on my purchase list.
Look forward to watching the series
Thanks Janet, the whole series is here! kzread.info/head/PLyZ16LRfpz0AvfsSNYwm-GSmr3Rhi404B
I need this I will watch it after work. Came last on my last ultra
Oh fab Janet which one was that? Get in touch if you'd like to star in this series! Watch it all here kzread.info/head/PLyZ16LRfpz0AvfsSNYwm-GSmr3Rhi404B
great review 👍 I never tried the boa as I found the original too unstable, but after seeing some good reviews I now have the carbon. Did you try the mont blanc carbon? That is an awesome shoe, Altra finally nailed it (for my feet anyway)
nice one, I never tried a carbon anything, is it any good? Glad you found Altra!
Hi Claire, I hope you are well? I am doing Lakeland 50 in a few weeks time and wondered if you had any pearls of wisdom for getting around the course? Thanks Rob
Hey Rob, indeed I doo! All here! kzread.info/dash/bejne/ioefrbaLcs3doJs.html have a fantastic time!
Met Dan at Gloucester 24hr track race 23 nice fella down to Earth top bloke
Aw yes Dan is the business!
Loving this draw hilarious as always
Ha ha thanks Stephen!!!
@wildgingerruns so awesome you don't need blooper reels you make a post funny
Man, Legend, Freemason
Absolutely
Well done to the lucky winners , the prizes are quite interesting . Have a good time on holiday Claire , it is well deserved .
Thank you! You too!
Congrats to the winners!
Thanks Arleen hope you are well!
It was a rather enjoyable interview with Tim Pigott who had as well some very useful advice and comments for the ultra distance runners especially about the recovery time from one ultra race to the next one .
Fab I'm so glad you liked it AC!
Excellant
Glad you liked it
God bless❤
He will be missed
This legend filled his life, Inspirational, humble, tough, down to earth. R.I.P Sir
Absolutely well said, thank you Reg
Stephen's audible from 6:53 onwards (albeit quietly)
Yes we started again from 8:20 secs in and I'm trying to cut it on KZread but it will only let me save it as a new video at the moment rather than alter the original. Might have to just do that, really annoying!
It could have been an interesting Interview Claire , but what a shame I could not hear Stephen's voice at all .

Due North Events are brilliant. Though the climb out of Littondale on the Trod is awful!
I hope to try the Trod!
T.Y. I've used the Shokz Pro and many others. My G7 is my favorite for a lot of reasons. Avoiding the newer air conduction sets a there's too much sacrifice for better sound. I frequently adjust volume...and have questionable hand-ear coordination :)
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this.
No worries! Hope you liked it!
you don't need lots of carbs if you are fat adapted, maybe Scott is running at higher intensity (definitely is) but if I eat carbs I get sick, so I mostly eat fat and protein.
Thanks trails and beers!
Hi Claire. You siad that filming slowed you down and it would have done a bit. Having someone to film you would be a good solution, so how about this for an idea. Have a running KZreadr who is well know for their running videos (like Loyd from run4adventure) film you. You do your filming, they film you and then you can have a dual video, one from the running pont of view, the other from crew/film. I have never seen something quite like that before and could be fun!
A collab would be super cool! I think Lloyd wants to run it himself tho, but it's a great idea if he gets injured or something beforehand like this year. Patreon Sean O'Keefe has offered to crew and film me also. Are you offering too? ;)
@@wildgingerruns If I am available, then it sounds good!
It is not easy at all to organize races and make them a success , Mel Steventon is such an inspiring person for hard working and for the huge achievements of Due North Events .
Thanks AC that is fab of you to say!
Imo Boddy is a powerhouse , congratulations to her for the record of this huge challenge .Well done to Claire for interviewing such an interesting character .
She is amazing isn't she! I can't wait to see what she does next!
So nice to bump into you at Race to The King.
Hey Paul great to see you too! Hope you had a great race!
My legs eventually woke up around 50 miles. Great event and day out
Hi, is there the possibility of fixing the soft Flasch with elastic bands in this backpack so that they are firmly in place while running? The M/L measurement indicates how many cm of chest circumference it corresponds to. Thank you
Hey I think they might have elastic bands in place to keep the bottle up, but not sure, I sent this pack back a while ago now sorry I can't be more help with it!
There’s nothing healthy about chicken or mercury laden fish . Besides do the animals have a say in this?
Thanks for your comment! Veganism is 100% the way forward, Claire
You can't make a 20mins audio gear comparison without touching on audio quality....
Did I not mention that? I thought I said the audio quality was best on the open-ear headphones but if you want to hear your surroundings you need to use the bonephones which don't have as good audio quality. Sorry if that didn't come across in the film? Claire
He’s so well spoken.
Yes he is awesome, it's a great chat!
Excellent Review
Thanks glad it helped you!
"Don't pick this one as your first ultra" 🤣 It was my first - albeit as a walker!
Ha ha! I was joking... it's a perfect first ultra if you don't mind a bit of mud! The waymarking from the coventry way signs is very impressive, I hardly needed to use the GPX at all!
The deadlift looked a bit off. Wasnt all the tension in your lower back doing it like that?
Thanks for your comment!
Thank you Claire and Tim for an excellent episode. Get well soon
Thank you!
Another useful and interesting interview with Tim Pigott that gives good advice for different type of injurys . Get well soon Claire !
Awesome thank you AC!
super helpful video :) thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I liked several items in this monthly competition , especially the shoes NNormal Tomir 2.0 . Well done to the winners .
Yes can't believe we got NNormal shoes in the comp! Fab steal eh! Become a Patreon then you might win them!
Will be marshalling on race to the kings! Will be cheering you on!!
Thanks you! I have now dropped to the 50k Coastal as I've got bronchitis! So hope to see you on that bit!
@@wildgingerruns oh no. Hope you feel better soon
This is a great vid, so informative.
Glad you enjoyed it
I'm doing it next year, do you have to register the day before or can you do it before the race on the day? Thank you
You can do it on race day but it's very very early!
Aren’t your patrons your parents and sisters
Er nope
@@wildgingerrunswell my parents really like your videos so fair play
I think he should educate himself on female physiology and menapause. Because he's still working as a coach, writing books and making interviews. Lots of science when it comes to men, a book referral when it comes to women. :)
Ooh good shout, you will like THIS interview, she is writing a book about this very thing soon! kzread.info7gLjjYurS_E
Stacey Sims' second book Next Level is all about menapause. She says not every women should use hormone replacement therapy. I disagree. I lost my will to exercise temporary. Also I was getting overheated on the runs. Estradiol gel is a magic cure.
So fab you have found your cure!!! Go you!
Thank you for a really informative lesson, I was about to purchase the Cleer Arc and thought I'd find out more about the usability as when I'm driving I listen to podcasts and didn't think it would be easy to answer the phone. Sounds like I need the Open run :) 💫
They are so much comfier!!! Put the ear plugs in if you need to block out surround sound tho
Well done on finishing. Another reason for doing a summer Ultra is the longer evenings which means you'll hopefully finish in daylight.
Oh yes! Another tip to add! Thanks for this!
