The bronzes were being transported, long after they were created, to Italy as part of one of the waves of large-scale plundering of Greek art that occurred at various dates after the Roman conquest of Greece 146 B.C. Salvatore Settis and Vinzenz Brinkmann (Liebieghaus Polychromy Research Project) identify the warriors as Erechtheus, son of Athena, and Eumolpos, son of Poseidon. A group of two bronze statues depicting Erechtheus and Eumolpos near to the temple of Athena on the Athenian acropolis is mentioned by Pausanias 1.27.4: “... large bronze figures of men facing each other for a fight, one of whom they call Erechtheus, the other Eumolpos ...”

Heartwarming, if it was even halfway true ! The fact is that in the UK, even to gain access to a construction site the individual requires minimum qualifications even for the most menial job. Add to that, no one would be allowed onto or into a place of work without proper PPE, then there is the question of insurance. If ' John' injured himself or someone else whilst on site, who would be responsible? Not John because he would have no insurance to cover himself, nor would the roofing company take on such a liability as an unknown. These stories are intended to be awe inspiring and moralistic, but they are just that 'stories'. No basis in reality.
