    I did every mod here except for the pentode triode, cause I didn’t find good enough directions to feel competent doing that one. I don’t feel like I have quite as much gain as shown at the end of the video. Maybe the pent/tri mod helps, but I’m a little disappointed and wanting more. Wish I knew what else to do.

    @@zabtej1645 You can use a higher value to trim some low end. Like a 0.1 uf would be more bass than a 0.022 uf.

    @@KleyDeJong Thank you very much! Any ideas for tracing back a noname modded amp, when on the input jack resistor is supposed to be a 80 something kohm resistor, but it measures at 34k? Do these markings matter at all and if the value is not correct, do I have to change to a new component? It's like a 50+ year old amp, was there a color code change since?

    Aloha Kley Moving master volume to the 6V6 grid will cause coincidental bias variation on the output tube. Self leak grid bias should not be variable once set.

    Aloha Kley, The 5F1 inputs are a bit more complicated than described. For single jack input, #1 is normal for a guitar. #2 is -6dB (25%) for dynamic microphones etc. However, there no level shift when both are used, they are both at normal level… the normally closed contacts on the jacks reconfigure the input resistance to make that happen.

    Look at baby bear!, I have an ISP theta preamp pedal, the red one, you can play death metal on a kazoo with that one, if you dial in the eq solid., and I just recently got an Ibanez pentatone preamp., I’ve heard people complain about the tone of that one, but it’s them, not the pedal, plain and simple, that one destroys planets all day long, single coils or hum buckers., also both have a great noise gate.

    Ok…. We might be dorks…. But this video was….DEEEEE..LICIOUS … You didn't even mention “which way do DC electrons flow”… it kind of doesn’t matter .. But the most fun part was Not even a big deal to you…. Just drawing the signal path from the input jack out through the split at the inverter and then out to the output trans….. I recvd two years of electronics training in High School vo-tech….. so long ago…. We used slide rules… And I was SEARCHING FOR THIS VIDEO…. I had most of the concepts but they were covered 50 years of silt. So …I WILL smash the subscribe…just as my sincere thank you. I have a Twin Reverb… because I can’t afford a Princeton… 1976 with the master volume… If “ everybody hates the MASTER VOLUME”…on those Fender amps….Does just turning the MV to ten “ fix the tone suck”?… or how do you mod to bypass that portion of the circuit? Also in the mid 90s ( functionally PRE internet) in an antique store… I bought a 1950s Gretsch amp… it does power on and play… but 1) the trem only responds with one pulse..and then goes steady… I’m guessing that a cap is charging up… but then…??? 2) because of its age… I am afraid that a cap is going to fail and short…and then smoke the amp… so… A) is this a reasonable concern B) is recapping the whole power supply wise or unwise C) I hate the idea of modding an all original amp… but smoking the amp would be worse. Thank you for the inputs…

    _// Thanks for sharing the video! Let me tell you something important: God loves you! God loves us ! He is no respecter of persons! because God wants us all to be saved! and let's go to the knowledge of the “Truth” God wants to save us from eternal damnation, which we all deserve because of sin, who entered the world through Adam, and death entered through sin, and thus death passed to all human beings, Therefore, we are all “Sinners” But God's Love was so great for us, that he sent his only Son (Jesus Christ), gave him to this world, to die and rise for all of us! No Respect of Persons! so that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ does not go to eternal punishment, but rather has “Eternal Life!” “ Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures; and he was buried, and rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures Jesus Christ came to call sinners to “Repentance! “ and, he who believes in Him, has “Eternal Life! “But whoever refuses to believe in Jesus Christ, the wrath of God remains on him. Then, as through Adam's transgression, condemnation came to all human beings, in the same way, through the justice of Jesus Christ, justification of life came to all human beings! All of us who believe in The Only Savior of the world! The Only Mediator between God and us! The Lord Jesus Christ! The son of God! All of us who trust in Him; we have “Eternal Life! “ And we must know that there is salvation in no one else; because there is no other name under heaven, given to human beings, in which we can be saved. Only by Believing/Trusting in “Jesus Christ” can we be Saved! But Jesus Christ also said: Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Therefore, we must be doers of the Word of God! and not only listeners and/or readers, deceiving ourselves. So let's read the Word of God! There is His Will! what God wants us to do! Let us read mainly the Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and let us pray to God, our Heavenly Father, all the days of the life that He gave us! God loves you! God loves us! To Him alone be the Glory Forever! Amen! Dear Mr DeJong. When you went to cover the preamp, why did you trace the HI input to the top of the 3 pin terminal (Header 1 to Header 10)? I own one of these Monoprice15 watters, and all I have is a single instrument input. Can't wait for the speaker to be broken in. Good for the price, it doesn't have an overdrive. It has an adjustable distortion. I have yet to open it up. I will have to see if there's a set of diodes shunt to ground or if it really uses the preamp circuit to push the amp stage. It's funny , I have a little 8 watt solid-state HiWatt someone gave me and it's "overdrive" is a pair of diodes to ground from the 4558 opamp and not in its feedback loop all before the output transistor, hence it's hard clipping or distortion. On the Monoprice, it's sort of nice having it dialable, but I would rather it being switchable and preset the overdrive, er,...distortion.

    Just add an graphic eq pedal in front or in the effects send and you've got most any tone you like- no need to swap out the speaker. I did swap the 3 12AX7's for 3 lower gain 5750s, much happier with a tamed overdrive. kzread.info

    Hi Kley, great video! I have a question: At the collector there's going to be a DC biasing voltage (of around +3.3V assuming the transistor BETA to be 100 if l did the maths right), so that the amplified signal has headroom and not clip just yet. But then the signal will be almost completely positive in voltage. Is the decoupling capacitor going to literally subtract this 3.3V from the signal or something like that? I get the feeling that the diodes are going to absolutely crush the signal otherwise.

  • @KleyDeJong
    @KleyDeJong16 күн бұрын

    @@ric8248 The decoupling cap blocks the DC voltage used to power the transistor, but does not affect the AC audio signal. The diodes will clip the ac wave form. One on the positive swing. One on the negative swing.

    Thanks for posting. I will be experimenting with mine. Just a thought, instead of removing the surface mount components, you could cut the track. That way you could put the circuit back to normal by simply rejoining the track with a bit of wire. Also it would have been good to hear the comparison between the speakers. Great video, thanks.
