    Great video. I stumbled across this just now. I’ve had my tire changer set up for a year now. The Lucid duck bill adapter works well. Looks like you purchased everything I did. I did purchase a larger aluminum center cone through eBay, for some of my wheels.

    I just ordered one from HF (out of stock in store cause a good discount) and used it yesterday... This thing is pretty thick metal. I just used it to change out my tpms. A shop didn't know how to properly install new ones. Got new tires and they were all on flat the next day. I thought it was the amazon tpms I bought, so I ordered oem ones. My thought was i dont want to spend the $60 to have them do something so simple. This was 40 bucks with the inside track deal. But that stupid tire shop ended up putting the plastic washer inside on top of the rubber o-ring. Thats why they all leaked. I usually work on my own cars, so this will be something new i can do. Tires are cheaper if you just order online anyway. Need to order the attachment. What are you doing for balancing? I seen the Amazon one, but some folks say its needs some work to make it accurate.

    If you change enough tires with the Harbor Freight unit you will encounter one that will destroy the flimsy bead breaker. If you have welding equipment I highly recommend reinforcing the breaker or, better yet, fabricating a new one that reuses the shaped piece that is placed against the tire. Welding the T-shaped base pieces to the main post is also a good idea. A piece of rubber mat does a better job of keeping the tire from shifting during bead breaking. The Lucid duckbill setup is nice but very expensive; functionally identical unpainted units are half the price on eBay.

    I have changed dozens of tires with this setup and it generally works well. But for D.I.Y. viewers of this video who actually do give a shit about changing over unconventional tires, it is only fair to say don't expect it to go as easily as presented here.

    Yeah idk why it seems to be almost frowned upon to drift a 2.5 sometimes. Anyways the wagon comes with a 3.46 stock and it currently has a 3.64. I have a 3.0 but I might turbo this 2.5 for shits and giggles then put the 3.46 back in it.

    Nicely done, you have a great setup there. Yes it will save money. I keep track of my spending in an excel file and am still ahead of the game after 24 tires. When installing the first bead, you may be able to just push that first bead on. You kind of walk it on pushing on one side then the other. Eventually you may care about balancing - don't get an HF bubble balancer - that just didn't work for me. Latest video where I try to show the results of a long learning curve... kzread.info/dash/bejne/iZuesLFrl9eZqMo.html

  • @DriftSanti
    @DriftSantiАй бұрын

    Thanks man. Ive been able to push on the first bead and as far as expeses it dropped my drift event costs by $100(local mounting costs are dumb high). Yeah for now I havent worried about balancing mainly because you dont feel it on the rears.

    @@DriftSanti Forgot to mention, I do get tires from Priority... or Discount Tire Direct or even Amazon. I have to move my setup as I park there, so over time, the original bolts have stretched as they were too soft, so I'm now using grade 8 bolts. The bolts seem to work but I think the same red-head floor anchors are stretching too. It would be nice if I could get them out and replace them.

  • @DriftSanti
    @DriftSantiАй бұрын

    @@richbinaz priority tire is great for me too but i think its time to move into a higher performance tire for better life and grip. As far as the bolts mine havent budged so Ive been lucky so far.

    What would you recommend for a home balancer if not the HF bubble balancer?

  • @richbinaz
    @richbinazАй бұрын

    @@Spoonlntegra After I found out how bad the HF bubble balancer I bought was, I started down a vertical balancing path - same method as I use for my motorbike wheels. For that I got a cheap new hub and found I had to reduce the internal friction. It got complicated and it was limited to like one car per hub, so not really very practical. I hear trailer hubs have very low resistance... too late for me though... kzread.info/dash/bejne/np1qxaSKcsa1iJs.html Plan D, which I think is much more practical, was going back to horizontal balancing and using a steel ball to center the wheel hub on a level steel plate. And so I don't have to buy a bunch of steel balls, I got some hub centric rings for wheels with pilots large than that size of the ball. I can now balance anything from an XB mk1 up to a Sliverado 1500. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iZuesLFrl9eZqMo.html See text under this video for other links I recommend the horizontal laser balancing, specially if you dealing with more than one hub pattern. There are limitations. It won't do wheels with recessed hubs (wheel CG below Ball CG) It won't do wheels that pilot on the lug nuts (Citroen 2CV)
