Eddie Murphy did SOOO much for exposing this song to an even bigger audience than the Po-Po already had just by singing a small portion of it in “48 Hours”

Worth watching Rick Beato's recent interview with Stewart Copeland where he tells the hilarious story of how this track was recorded - Sting's Synclavier vs. Stuart's Fairlight. Big drama over the choice of snare sample, etc. 😂

Funny how this later version sounds so 80s and dated, yet the original sounds timeless.

I always wondered what the clock ticking sound meant at 0:22, is it like the time between the original version and this version? Thoughts anyone?

Not sure how I went all these years without hearing this. Nice remake. Sounds more like something off a Sting solo album to me than it sounds like the Police. Not that thats a bad thing.

I can never decide which version is better....the original, or this gem? Whatever, hats off to producer Laurie Latham for this clear bit of alchemy. I bought the single qwhen first released and it is worth tracking down. It has a superb live version as it's B side.
