    The notion of "global academic consensus" of the composition of the Bhagavad Gita around the 200 BCE to 200 CE is BOGUS, ARTIFICIAL, INADEQUATE "scholarship", rather it's LAZY, UNINTELLECTUAL and worst of all BIASED towards a certain ideological dispositions, not unlike what one sees with "climate change consensus". Truth will eventually emerge that places a timeline of Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita as a central distillation of the knowledge of Brahman-Atman as NOT ONLY earlier in the current cycle BUT ALSO as CYCLICAL in that the exposition of Bhagavad Gita has occurred INFINITE times previously and shall repeat INFINITELY. Meaning, KAAL as in time is NOT LINEAR is among the knowledge of Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita,..

    fun fact. The name arjuna translates roughly to white or silver. It is cognate to the latin argentum from which words like Argentina is derived. The symbol for silver in the periodic table is Ag. Arjun is a warrior. With his armor and sword, he is the the shining knight. A wielder of silver.

    Hi Jennifer, thanks for watching, and for commenting. I'd love to hear your specific criticisms of this panel discussion. The vagueness of your insult, and shaming, don't move the dialogue forward. I'm guessing you and I have very different modes of Christianity, and that's o.k. My faith humbles me. It would never occur to me to insult the views of another, or heap shame upon them for seeing things differently than I do.

  • @plato7771

    @@PeterBolland Your faith does NOT humble you, because to have faith means to believe without evidence. Such unwarranted belief is the height of arrogance--not humility. I must say for you to believe that a 1st century Jewish handyman is the Son of God, died for mankind's sins, rose from the dead and will be coming back in the clouds one day is totally without merit. There is not a scrap of evidence for these beliefs, yet you still believe. As a teacher, you should put your critical thinking hat on and set a good example, instead of a bad example by embracing such nonsensical beliefs. That is why you should be ashamed of yourself. I have watched several of your videos on Eastern thought and enjoyed them, even though at times you were a little longwinded. I suggest you read Bart Ehrman's books and watch his videos on KZread to better educate yourself on the Christianity.

    Ah now I get it. I misread you as a conservative Christian mad about this gathering of progressive Christian pastors (well, at least two of them), in a panel discussion of which I was only the moderator. We had just screened the film "God and Country," a brilliant documentary exposing the dangers of Christian Nationalism, and stayed after to discuss it. But now I see what set you off. I normally don't dialogue with KZread commenters who hide behind user names, and begin their conversations with dismissive insults and unfounded attacks. But I'll make an exception this time. You have misread me. Your off-the-cuff guesswork about "my" Christianity couldn't be further from the truth. I'm just as skeptical as you are about the central claims of traditional, mainstream Christianity. That's the problem with these online "conversations." We're talking past each other. If we were in a cafe just talking none of this unpleasant rudeness would have occurred. Is your name even Jennifer as your KZread channel says? I doubt it.

    Dear Peter, from 17:20 on, you bring in such a profound conclusion to this 8 part series on 'I am That'. Like you ask, What if the rich tapestry of religion and various practices are merely the penultimate? We do hang on to those beautiful artefacts. Hard to let go. But just as the little girl did we need to detonate ! We could still have them all as artefacts to look and relish like we do the ancient art objects. But functionally we arrive at Who we are and we stay there! I like your idea of looping through these gems. That is perhaps the life of the enlightened :) Warm regards --Ganapathy

    Thank you so much. Whenever I turn the camera off, I'm somewhat surprised by what has come out of my mouth. I always remember things I should have said, but am sometimes pleasantly surprised by what I did manage to say. Closing with that "What religion are you God?" question turned out to be a good idea. I don't work from notes (other than the Nisargadatta quotes), so it really is in-the-moment. After all these years of teaching, I find it works best if I don't over-prepare. That way I leave room for the flow.

  • @Ekam-Sat

    Yes. We are That. Om Tat Sat. That being said. The gospel of Love as expressed by Jesus in the NT should remain the foundation in the "Western World" (I am not talking about India which expresses the same realization through the teachings of Krsna, Kashmir Shaivism or even Tantric Buddhism). But here in the US the teachings of Jesus are the only thing that can protect us in this Kali Yuga (the age of chaotic secularism). It must be noted however that Christianity (its idea of unity and love) has been under attack by the secular progressive movement (a fancy name for those who thrive on division), which began in the 1960s and persists today. Look up Engel v. Vitale and especially who was really behind Engel. The same bad actors openly oppose traditional family values, particularly those expressed by Christianity. The extent of this is truly shocking. Entertainment and media play a pivotal role in their tactics. They use it to undermine family values and traditions while promoting non-conforming lifestyles and divisiveness. Did you really think Greta Gerwig was Christian as she says? Think again. Follow the money... What is even more shocking is they do NOT even agree with what they preach. The only reason is that they don’t see money in the teachings of Jesus which are all about unity and love and there is no money in that. So basically we have been played. And most people don’t even realize it. See falling marriages, skyrocketing divorce, polarity in politics, general lack of respect and politeness. So now more than ever Jesus and his teachings should be the bedrock of ever relationship (not what you hear on the news, social media or from shoddywood).

  • @PeterBolland

    You and I see Christianity, and the world, very differently, but I appreciate you watching this video, and commenting. You see secularism as the enemy--I see sectarianism as the biggest threat to world peace--always has been. I would never presume to declare which path is best for anyone other than myself, let alone an entire nation. I'm fascinated by how comfortably and casually you are able to do that. I distrust certainty--it's that simple. I am happy to see how you leave room for Advaita Vedanta (for other people) in your Christian faith. That is definitely a step in the right direction, in my opinion. Thanks again.

    🙏 Dear Peter. What is your understanding about Neo-advaita movement(Tony Parsons, Jim Newman...) saying (in a nutshell) because we are already enlightened, (Atman being our real nature) nothing has to be done, no spiritual practices, no mind cleansing, meditation, just know we are free and be, that's all. Could this "new philosophy" came from the misunderstanding of the teachings of Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta, Papaji ?? Thanks again 🙏 With loving kindness 💜

  • @PeterBolland
    @PeterBolland4 күн бұрын

    I don't know much about it, other than what you've shared here. By your description, it sounds interesting. I love the way the human mind continues to approach these issues from fresh perspectives. But I always step back into this circle: that all doctrines, theories, theologies, and conceptual understandings arise from and remain contained in the mind. And the mind, as Nisargadatta continually points out, is a poor steward of our realization. Of course the claims of Neo-Advaita are internally logically consistent--if we are already That, then there's nothing to be done. Just know that You Are That. But that approach overlooks the pervasive fog of conditioned existence. It turns out that it takes some doing to realize that You Are That. You can't just utter the three words like some sort of magical incantation and boom you're enlightened. It's just words. I like the whimsy of the Zen saying, "You're perfect just the way you are, but you could use a little improvement."

    wow. what a beautiful and heartfelt rendering of the themes of Nisargadata's point of view. It is interesting to me that when an awakened person (I'm especially thinking of Nisargadata and Ramakrishna here who were both somewhat uneducated in the academic respects) realizes "truth", they are able to cut through any sort of philosophical resistance that a much more educated person or scholar might present to them. I agree that ultimately we do not need to study all the books and methods, but still, as it is, that seems to be my dharma this time around,( as it might be yours,) (more of a jnani way?) and I am thankful that you are here in this venue. Your understanding of the core shines through and in, every word that you speak. Every video of yours I have watched in the last three years has been insightful and helpful. Thank you.

    Thank you so very much for these sharings on Nisargadatta. I do want to mention Maurice Frydman, who translated the original recordings from Marathi to English. The quality of his translation is superb because of his profound spiritual state. This is what Maharaj said about Maurice: (From David Godman's blog on Nisargadatta Maharaj) "Maharaj initially didn’t seem to agree with the remarks that had been attributed to him in the book, but then he added, ‘The words must be true because Maurice wrote them. Maurice was a jnani, and the jnani’s words are always the words of truth.’ " Maurice Frydman was an extraordinary person; David Godman once mentioned that an entire documentary should be made about him. Nisargadatta was at Maurice's bedside when he left the body in 1976.

    Peter, I need your guidance. Nisargadatta said:"Do what you believe in and believe in what you do" Fine, but could it a dangerous statement , if you are misguided, delusional like a guy say... Hitler(extreme example) or so so many others believing strongly that they are right and serving a right cause? Am I going astray and didn't understand anything? You know the mind/ego trick us into false beliefs? How can we have the right discernment to see correctly? Maybe only after years of spiritual practice or sadhanas? Thanks. 💜

  • @PeterBolland
    @PeterBolland6 күн бұрын

    You have raised a very important question. And I agree with you--without the proper preparation and context, this teaching could easily be misunderstood as, "Follow every blind and ignorant urge, no matter how dangerous and destructive to others or oneself." Which is obviously not what Nisargadatta has in mind. He is, again and again, pointing to a simple, natural, almost naive innocence, as opposed to overthinking. His statement is medicine for the disease of believing that the mind can solve all of our problems. Instead, he's arguing that we will make better choices when we act from the "I Am" deep within, not the surface mind. The problem with any medicine, however, is in getting the dosage wrong, or misusing it. Hope that helps.

    @@PeterBolland Thank you for your reply, yes I know, I was playing the devil's advocate kind of thing. But what can be dangerous is when we believe strongly our own thoughts and opinions, ideas we can become fundamentalist. Fundamentalist Christians, Buddhists, Scientists, Atheists, Psychologists etc... No matter how strongly our perspective and beliefs, they are always other point of views. And like Bruce Lee said: "Be like water" After all, we will never grasp completely God or Brahman, being beyond time, space and object and experience . It is beyond our mind/intellect. All religions point us to the same direction, but all have flaws. With metta 🙏 💜 Going to listen to #8 video soon. 😊
