Hi Jeff! I have a strong background in music, but not so much with percussion instruments. I bought a pre-made propane tank tongue drum for the outdoor play space of the daycare I run, but once I got it I wasn't super impressed with the tuning/sound. The investment has been made though, and I'd like to see if I can hack my way to a more pleasant-sounding drum. The first problem is that it sounds kinda "clangy" ~ lacks resonance I guess ~ do you have any recommendations for addressing that? Secondly it seems to be tuned to a minor key which is not very cheery-sounding for the kiddos. I've heard you can tune these things using magnets, is that a real thing? Thanks for any advice!
@mefjoris5 күн бұрын
For the clangy sound, try wrapping a rope around the tank to kill any unnecessary vibrations. You can see in my video that I do that to my drums. You can tune the drum tongues by lengthening them. To fine tune them I use a hacksaw blade. You can also see this in the video. Ive never seen the magnet thing, but I cant see how that would be a perminate fix.

Hey, so very clear video, but when I tried this it would work but the paint wouldn't bind to the fabric. Like it will start to dry and seperate from the textile, basically just falling off. Is this because of the kind of paint I use? or the fabric? Or anything else?
