Zenyatta always gave herself a boat load to do late in all of her races. Whether by design or by choice. Blame on the other hand was box-seated almost perfectly the entire race under a solid early pace, and a very patient ride by Garrett Gomez. But the heart she showed still coming so close to beating a multiple G1 winner in Blame on his home track (Churchill Downs) where he was never beaten, showed the tremendous heart and will to win that big mare possessed. Had this race been on a synthetic surface it might have been a very different outcome, because Zenyatta was decent on conventional dirt winning the Apple Blossom twice and very nearly this race too. But I don't think there's much doubt she spun her wheels much less racing on that pro-ride at Santa Anita or on Del-Mar's tapeta surface than she did on conventional dirt at Oaklawn Park or Churchill Downs. Which has often made me wonder how good Zenyatta might've been on turf if she'd ever been given the chance to race on it? I know quite often in Europe and for the first few seasons at Meydan, horses who run well on polytrack at Kempton or LIngfield or horses that ran well on the main track at Meydan when it was initially tapeta are generally equally as effective on turf. Case in point, after running 1st-(Gloria De Campeao) & 2nd-(Lizard's Desire) respectively in the 2010 Dubai World Cup, the first held at Meydan on tapeta, they did the same a couple of months later at Kranji on turf in the G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup, only this time with Lizard's Desire flipping the script beating Gloria De Campeao and squaring that ledger.

Effectively the very last race for SYT. The connections once planned to take the Eclipse for the 2nd time, but eventually abandoned because of SYT's injury which ended his racing career much earlier. Some Aussies even thought of the showdown between he and Frankel, which would never realised because Sir Cecil planned to keep the latter away from 10F races for a short more while aside from SYT's retirement.

If Flightline had run in that race against the same horses DM ran against he wins by 15-20 lengths. Prat never let Flightline loose. Dettori was all out putting on a show for the crowd. As far as one of the greats on dirt no way is DM one of the greats. Overrated

Ironically, what turned out to be the only G1 win of Planteur's career, but it's sure hard to knock the form of his win in this renewal of the G1 Prix Ganay. Behind him that day at Longchamp were multiple G1 winning filly Sarafina in 2nd, the multiple G1 winning grissled old veteran gelding Cirrus Des Aigles finished in 3rd. In 4th was the Irish bred & Aidan O'Brien trained Cape Blanco. A multiple G1 winner of the G1 Irish Derby & G1 Irish Champion Stakes in Ireland and of the G1 Man O'War Stakes, G1 Arlington Million, & G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic in America. Finishing 5th was the G3 Prix Gladiateur winner Ley Hunter, and 6th was G2 Grand Prix de Chantilly winner Silver Pond. Rock solid form lines for basically every horse in the field that day. As strong of a field as Planteur ever faced, for my money not just in France, but in any other country he ever raced in too, IMO.
